so.. you can sew over the pins? and also. Can you do it forward all the way, then go back all the way or should you do it in sections? Sorry... We're sewing a pillow in my class and she really wasnt clear on all this so I decided to look it up so I dont mess up..
@SilverHumaneHorse The Singer models with the slant shank can sew over pins which are at right angles to the sewing line. If your machine isn't set up for sewing over pins, you need to remove them as you get to them (thankful for my Singer slant shank!).
@QwertyoPIZ the same for me! I can't figure out how to fix this as I'm brand new to sewing. Its the only thing holding me back from starting my dress!
The slant shank is a special shank (the bit that holds the foot onto the machine) fhat Singer made so that one can even sew over pins without breaking the sewing machine needle. It's COOL.
I was told you were not ever supposed to sew over pins, because the needle could hit one & bend or break your needle, regardless if your footer will roll over it....?
The slant shank allows one to sew over pins. If you have a machine without a slant shank, then you do indeed need to take pins out before you sew over them, or they will break your needle.
Good demonstration! I had no idea about backstitching, so I would just sew over my initial stitches 2 or 3 times to prevent it from unraveling. This seems like it would be more time efficient and accomplish the same thing.
Thanks for your videos! I am a beginner and it helps the way you explain things so clearly. Also, I like the still pictures and closeups. The one thing I would ask for you to do is to turn the music down a bit. It's kind of hard to hear you with your background music so loud. Yours is the best I've seen so far! :) I am working on my first project and I will add a vidoe response to show you my work once I am finished. I did not use a pattern for it. I still have to learn to read patterns!

Thanks for your encouragement! I'll take your tip and turn down the background music (hint: I use the same loop in all my videos -- I'll bet if you hear that loop somewhere you'll think of my vids;).
Wow, I can't sew without a pattern. I guess you can say that my forte is following instructions, not free form creating. I look forward to your video response! Happy sewing!
thank you soo much u have just revealed things in my sewing machine that i did not know before i am clueless on sewing but i try my best if i knew i had the reverse button my clothing would of been much easier thanks a lot again u explain things very well ^-^

Hi I was wondering how I can fix my sewing machine tensions
haleyyyyd 2 years ago
When I use the backstitch on my sewing machine, the loops get all tangled or they are very loose.
QwertyoPIZ 2 years ago
That sounds like a tension problem. Check your the machine tension. Hope that helps!
