I didn't see it as a manipulation but rather him driving the point that there is a gray area that needs to be addressed. You have lumped one research as ethical while the other un-ethical. Yet I haven't yet heard one single fertility doctor convicted for destroying FERTILIZED eggs.

May I chime in? I just heard the part of this video in which President Obama addressed those who speak out against "stem cell research." In his careful choosing of words, he omitted a key term: embryonic. Adult embryonic stem cell research is ethical, effective and non-controversial. Embryonic stem cell research is unethical. So since I oppose embryonic stem cell research, I am lumped into his category of people who don't consider the rights of "parents of children with juvenile diabetes."

Obama was in the senate for 3 1/2 years, not 1 1/2 years. He worked on various projects as a senator. He won the nomination in large part because he had the purest anti-war record, because Clinton ran an inept, over confident campaign. Most Democrats would have defeated McCain. His rhetorical ability helped him, as it helped numerous candidates throughout American history. The notion that just any black man would have won is risible; you don't see Sharpton or Keyes winning many primaries.

Thank you. Many people don't realize this. It's poor women in general, but minority women in specific that can't afford BC. People think, "Well surely a simple pack of birth control pills is cheaper than an expensive abortion procedure," but you have to have health care to even get the pills. In other countries, you can get BC without a prescription, but in the U.S. you have to take off work to make an effing appt. to get a checkup and THEN get the pill.

I am one of the people who cheered. So yes, the issue that I raised was in regards to your comment. I didn't see it as a manipulation but rather him driving the point that there is a gray area that needs to be addressed. You have lumped one research as ethical while the other un-ethical. Yet I haven't yet heard one single fertility doctor convicted for destroying FERTILIZED eggs.

Either he's ignorant of science and doesn't know that there exists more than one form of stem cell research, one ethical and other non-ethical; or he's purposely omitting key words an an attempt at manipulation. May I chime in? I just heard the part of this video in which President Obama addressed those who speak out against "stem cell research." In his careful choosing of words, he omitted a key term: embryonic. Adult embryonic stem cell research is ethical, effective and non-controversial. Embryonic stem cell research is unethical. So since I oppose embryonic stem cell research, I am lumped into his category of people who don't consider the rights of "parents of children with juvenile diabetes."

Obama is ending harsh interrogation methods due to ethics concerns. The CIAs job is now harder but its the right thing to do, Obama assures them. Obama does not apply this same logic to abortion. Why not? Okay, you get an unwanted pregnancy. The easy way out is an abortion. But the ethical way out is to go through with having the baby.
