  • Hi James, I remember garnet's cafe in the late fifties early sixties and some of the characters that used to go there, such as Geoff who had the loudest motor bike ever (Italian I think) and Butch who had the 650 Bonneville and of course the little dansette record player. Lovely days.

  • Hello Sonia Maxfield do you remember this from Garnetts Cafe, Swinton?

  • Roy's best. I've never heard anyone try to cover it and no one ever should, if only for their own self respect. I suspect that most people have a Running Scared Moment in their lives somewhere...

  • He was a national treasure...brilliant

  • roy was the best what a voice rest in peace roy

  • the man at his best!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Simplty stated, he was the greteest!

  • Forth date with a lady this was playing as her ex boyfriend walked in and I lived every word of it. We have now been married for 35 years

  • @741torch wow !

  • Always sadly missed. :-(

  • Number 1 back in 1961 around the time I was born..

  • The day the music died, Dec 6, 19988!

  • Golden voice, i love listening to all of his songs a very good singer i wish he keep on singing until now love this singer too...Where is he now?

  • Too young at the time to appreciate his talent and his songs. What a difference a couple of decades make

  • What was it about Roy? All the stars, Dylan, Harrison, Petty, Springsteen, J Brown et al.....just wanted to be around him. His music speaks for itself but he had some magical quality that attracted people. Was it his talent? He seemed so kind to everyone.

  • Azerbaijan brought me here.

  • Unbelievable last note.

    pin

  • Can't wait to sing this with Roy in Heaven!

  • @1933goudey - Thumb up.

  • I wish very much i had a voice that good, but mine is too deep.

  • A great sound-a well written song-The music is just perfect.

  • for those of you who aren't attuned to vocals, the note Roy hits at the end is incredibly difficult and rare to see in music. He makes it sound effortless, as it should sound. Thanks for posting the video!

  • @infiniteDefinitives That note always give me gooseflesh with pure delight. Which note is it?

  • @Quatorzel4 the note is A.

  • @infiniteDefinitives Thank you- I am not musically trained, but I adore Roy's ethereal voice.. I had the privilege of seeing him in concert on 3 separate tours, and he sounded exactly like his records, every time!

  • This masterpiece is one of the greatest songs ever recorded...We all miss him and only wonder how much more music he would have given us.

  • @roysmemorylane Too true, this guy will never be equalled.

  • fantastic roy, love the vid too!

  • Roy Orbison is a musical Genius.

  • Roy sei grande!

  • I think what I love about this song is the unique, yes unique, "simple" ending. No long story, no extra dialoue. Just simply "you turned around and walked away with me". 'nuf said.

  • Wat a beautiful song. His voice is perfect for this song.

  • srely one of his best thankyou w fbond for the song and clip

  • His voice is so Unique and mindblowing

no other artist will ever live up to the great man himself

  • Great tribute, to a great man! Thank you!

  • This will be a great song until the end of time....this brought tears to my eyes, I wonder if anyone else "gets it" and understands that era just a little better hearing this song. It sucks being 20 knowing you were born 50 years too late....

  • This is by far the best version of this song!!! REALLY GOOSE BUMP CITY!!!!

  • @pobrepaco

I know the end and yet I still get goose bumps every time I hear it...amazing song.

  • @pobrepaco

best "version"? Written by Orbison and Melson, sung by Roy. Other versions...do tell

  • @pobrepaco

Version? What other versions are there?

  • Bravo, Bravo, Bravo,,,Roy you are the numer one,,,thumbs up for Roy,,,

  • Powerfull tune,i mean true song in every sense.....shame no music like it today!!!

  • Fantastic!

  • A classic Roy Orbison song that, like many songs from the time, was all too brief. But what a highly dramatic, intense, and beautifully orchestrated recording it is! It's just a little over two minutes but what a trip! Roy's beautiful voice coupled with the steady buildup of background singers and beautiful strings increases the drama and beauty right up to the very end and leaves one breathless. I get goosebumps each time I listen to it.

  • i once danced in the middle of the night on a mountain to this song. i will never forget.

  • 50 years old and simply unbeatalbe. One of the great moments of popular music.

  • So surprised this does not have at least a million views.

  • As a young woman, this song was my favorite. I was afraid of my love's old flame. And he picked me!

  • @1946Mona How old are you now?

  • @1946Mona me too and she chose him!!

  • He had an epic voice even today there are so few that could equal his talent.

  • es exito regular

    viva el rock and roll

  • anyone ever see pic,s of roy as an albino,, like no hair dye or even glasses,,,?

  • @MrCollie110

Seriously? A tad old, exhaustive. Pic,s; try pics. Enough already, old, sad nothing. Long, oft told story, no basis whatsoever. Sorry, girl, you're in the wrong room.

  • Always have loved this song. Thanks for posting, it is a reminder to me of what a huge talent Roy had.

  • This song is the best

  • PROBABLY THE BEST SINGER EVER

  • @Justpooinabush Without a doubt!

  • @Justpooinabush Elvis considered Roy to be the greatest rock n roll singer of all time. Can Elvis be wrong?? You are definitely right. :-D

  • Didn't he write this song about Floyd Mayweather?

  • Didn't he right this song about Floyd Mayweather?

  • Just so!!! Just so, RXRguy!!!! This song does give me goosebumps! It makes me thrill!!! It touches my very soul. Unbearable impossible bliss!!!!! There was no one like HIM, there is no one like HIM and there will be no one like HIM. What a voice! What a voice! I worship HIM.

    Million thanks for sharing.

  • Roy Orbison remains one of the most underated singers ever, in my honest opinion he is at the very least top 10. Whenever I listen to "Crying" I start to well up. His range is incredible. One of the very few singers I could listen to everyday. He was just one of those greats, who could give you goosebumps even if he sang a nursery rhyme!!

  • @XavierMarciano

    Sorry to disapoint;

    Roy Orbison is highly rated.

  • @nula07 Excuse me? Did I say he wasn't highly rated? I don't believe I did. I said he was underated, in the context of people like Elvis. I always believed Roy had a much better voice than Elvis. That's what I meant and if you had taken the time to read the rest of my comment instead of just the first line, you would realise I have nothing but absolute admiration for Roy Orbison.

  • I shall never forget this song and the inspiration it brought to me.

In a similar situation,I perseverd agains "him"!

It took years, but, one day she did walk away with me.

And she, Dolores, has been my wife for over thirty years!

Thanks, mainly to the insipration and hope of this song.

    Frank

  • the archduke of rock

  • as a teenager i was in love with this voice. i am still in love with this one of a kind singer.the world is a sadder place without this man.he still gives me a thrill !!!!!!! The greatest voice of the past century..no one comes close...really listen close to this song......... HE IS #1 FOREVER......we will miss you always..i once danced in the dark to this song with my husband ...

  • I was lucky enough to see roy perform at the San Diego Animal Park many years ago. He sounded just as good in person as on his recordings. He was so good I went back the next day and watched the show again! It was amazing to see him just crank out one after another of his many many greateast hits. No wonder Elvis said he was the one singer he would least like to follow on stage! I miss them both. Thanks for this contribution. I agree he belongs at number 1 !

  • his voice was recorded in one take, can you imagine?!?!

  • His best song, in my estimation

  • Wonderful artist, wonderful song.

  • what a voice!

  • All I can say is........what a voice!!!!

  • Breathtaking. What manner of nitwit would downthumb this?

  • Fabulous!! Rest in peace Roy, your music lives on forever. (April 23, 1936 – December 6, 1988). <3 AC

  • Amazing voice but the real brilliance of this song, is that it builds to the very last word. You start to think "oh no he's right" and that she's going to end up with the other guy but at that last word the entire song flips on itself. Extremely cathadic

  • @Jourell1 Great point, but I'm going to turn it back around say the feature highlight of this song is the voice, and how he pulls of the high G# at the end without breaking into falsetto. That's just rare and nearly impossible for even the best of singers

  • I love so many artists, so many songs, but it always comes back to Roy. The one I never tire of. His voice is so pure. The one record, of all, that I would choose if I had to would be Roy Orbison.

  • @jmhennessy46

Had the pleasure of meeting him in person. Also his mother and father. Roy signed my albums. He thanked me for buying them. A lovely, gracious man. Gone now, will never be forgotten. Roy Orbison....

  • Top class,

  • Roy was the real man in black : )

  • Superb.

  • What a moving and, at the time, painful memory.

It brings tears to my eyes.

I went through Roy's agony..."If he came back, which one would you choose?"

The song gave me inspiration at a time when I did't know if i was the oneShe, my wonderful wife, did "walk away with me"!

That was 31happily married years ago...

Thank God for inspirational songs such at this.

    Frank

  • Thank you for posting this

  • sounds very Elvis.... or vice-versa

  • @digenovafilm elvis didn't really come close in terms of singing ability

  • We know why she turned around and walked away with you and not him, she heard this brilliant recording.

  • I know Roy Orbison was before my time, but I remember my mom playing his music on the record player as a kid growing up, to me it was just music then but as I grew up I learned to appreciate the TALENT and the GIFT of his music I will always be a fan and I now appreciate his music more than ever. What a treasure he was and continues to be to this world.

  • A #1 hit for the late Roy Orbison in June 1961.

  • #13??? There is no respect for true talent anymore!I'd like to have what they were smoking that day!!

  • Roy could make a lullaby sound like opera! RIP, beautiful, tragic man - there will never be another with your greatness.

  • Classic Roy ..Classic... and A Massive Hull City Fan "apparently".....But I still Love Hull City, Hull City i do

  • Classic Roy Classic A Massive Hull City Fan "apparently".....But I still Love Hull City, Hull City i do

  • When considering a vocalist, this man is the standard for the old cliche -- "truly incomparable." Roy Orbison was, and is, truly incomparable.

RIP, Roy. We surely miss you, friend.

  • His producer NEVER thought he'd hit the high note; boy was he surprised!

  • Of all the tunes in all the world, few, if any, can match the perfect crescendo-to-climax of music and lyric like "Running Scared." A timeless classic. Thank you, Roy Orbison.

  • What a perfomance!!

If this song doesn't give you goosebumps, nothing will.

    Love the way it builds

Such a great ending, Good for you Roy

One of my favorite Roy Orbison songs

No, one of my favorite songs, period.

    Thanks for sharin'

  • @RXRguy - Even the speedbumps got goosed.

  • @RXRguy the only singer Elvis would not follow!

  • @RXRguy

Just so!!! Just so!!!! It makes me thrill!!! It touches the very soul. Unbearable impossible bliss. There was no one like HIM, there is no one like HIM and there will be no one like HIM. What a voice! What a voice!

  • @RXRguy YES. This is the greatest creation of Roy. Everyone hears Pretty Woman....but if you listen to the lyrics, you put it exactly. This song gave me goose bumps. This song gave me tears when I first heard it. For some reason it's like it all made sense to me...I understand. I never grew up then, but I am well aware that I should have, being 19!

  • @RXRguy

  • #13 in all time top 100? that's a disgrace, he's #1.

  • @darklordojeda You are totally right !

  • @darklordojeda I have to agree, he's #1 by quite a distance too.

  • awesome song
