Fuck! I've just found about this guy. He's fuckin' amazing. I've read his bio while listening to this song and I've almost cried. Thanks Jason for this outstanding piece of music. I wish that life wouldn't suck this bad sometimes.
@90zzz09 It's not that its lame, its that you don't appreciate the emotion he incorporates in his music even though he's handicapped and cannot play anymore.
Christian Muenzner? anyone?, he's very influenced by Jason Becker, sometimes shows an influence from Steve Vai, etc. He plays in Obscura, Spawn of Possession and now Terrestrial Exiled (with Jarzombek, it will be so fucking amazing!) and has a solo album. Check him out, specially the solo album.
As a side note, i don't understand the "hate" on Malmsteen, i really like his playing style. I got his albums Rising Force, Trilogy and The Odyssey and I enjoy them a lot.
Guitar players of the 80s played with feeling, but they knew just 2 scales. Neoclassical players of 70s and 80s create great and fast tunes and built complex music architectures, but they are pretty tasteless. Shredders of nowadays are incredibly fast and technically complete, but they would play random notes in order to be faster than the others. Jason had technique, culture, speed, emotion, completeness and feeling, he was one the greatest guitar geniuses of all time. Malmsteen sucks.
@ClassicalGuitarRulez Moslty you are right but Malmsteen was very good in his early years, I mean 1983-86. In 1990s he has done nothing very special but one thing, concerto suite for guitar and orchestra. It is really fine and I loved to listen to it. And his live shows are still much fun. I love and respect him for the things he has composed before, but don't expect anything great from him in the future. I do not expect much from Jason as well, for obvious and tragic reasons.
I still don´t understand why people attack Jason, there is no guitar player like him in the actual days. I feel sorry for waht kind of music these people are listening
does anyone know if he's using pull offs in the sweeps starting at 1:58, or is he articulating each note with the pick. it sounds like he's pullign off but i'm not sure. i know it would make it a lot easier.
There are two dreams I wish to realize: drinking ayahuasca with peruvian shamans, and playing that song. One I will fulfill pretty soon, the other it may take years and years before I may possibly realize it.
And, who agrees: There is currently no single best guitarist, but given Jason Becker never had ALS, there may have been one?
Even though, at that same age, Malsteen too was insane.
wait...what? could you please redo your comment with punctuation...or something? I'm having a hard time understanding it, and I'd really like to answer your comment...or as previous comments have displayed, you may have just misread it.
wait what? Can you add some punctuation or something please...I'm having difficulty understanding your comment. I'd appretiate it so I could properly respond...
Not everyone can appreciate metal, some people just don't dig it. What bugs me about metal TODAY compared to the 70s 80s and even 90s is the shitty attitudes that new metalheads have, the fighting and arguing that goes on, on any given metal guitar shred or metal music video on youtube is pathetic, you make yourselves look like immature wannabees that need to grow the fuck up, and it shows your narrow mindedness about music and others points of view. metalheads today are fucking sad.
Jason is still alive. Sadly, he has Lou Gehrig's disease and is completely paralyzed with the exception of eye movement. He actually composed a new album recently that was recorded by people like Marty Friedman and Steve Vai.
I don't speak English very well ,so sorry in advance my friend. I want say your feeling and guitar playing were unique. I hope so very much it'll come a day when your hillnes go away and get u to play guitar again. I love u.
@MetalAgainstMetallic dont be a dumb ass...whats wrong with metallica/??and y do u wanna grab metallica into a jason becker video???..stfu n listen to this piece
@DiogoAlmeida95 I know.....come on Amott....say it ain't so....then again..Arch Enemy's Pilgrim and Blue Oyster Cult's Astrology have an even more obvious matching riff....especially the one covered by Metallica
i would love to see this done by an orchestra using different instruments flowing together for the lead .... that would be almost as incredible as the almighty becker.
Yes It's incredibly sad! I can't imagine...or maybe, I don't know jet! Loosing someone's freedom and purity in music is not just sad! For me it's the death!
Sorry for my english and if You don't understand me! Just try it please!
@sorabulq i agree with you totally but you have to realize that you cannot compare eddie & jimi with becker and friedman as you do know that if there was no jimi there would not have been rock. he is regarded as the best as he was the first one. just like halen he was the first one to use two handed tapping which is know a very important technique. plus the time these people were launched were diff. the times were diff. what would happen if eddie was born in the period when the blues had started
@sidthecoooool Oh, I must have been missing one guitar technique all this time, please direct to a video lesson on "ONE HANDED TAPPING".
Also, being the FIRST one to do something, doesn't mean you'll be the best at doing that, It's in fact the opposite.
And Eddie Van Halen DIDN'T invent tapping, nor was he the first one to ever use it. He was the one who made it POPULAR, it was a very scarcely used technique at the time.
@sidthecoooool I totally get what you mean. As great as Friedman, Becker, McAlphine and virtuosos are I know their impact on guitar playing is nowhere as significant as Hendrix or Van Halen. I love Hendrix, Van Halen and Slash, they are rightfully so well known for being so innovative and influential (well the first two at least) but technically speaking....legendary... but Becker, Vai, Satriani, Michael Angelo Battio...are better
@sorabulq fuck yeah dude now friendman is among the only guys still holdin up the slack, we need more real musicians like those guys pumpin out shit this this
Ok you're not the first person to mis read my comment, I have to admit, I didn't word it very well. Read it again. FYI, I listen to, play and most importantly I LOVE Hard Rock/Metal! And Jason Becker is not only one of my favorite guitarists, but i personally believe he is one the most technically proficient guitarists ever (when he could play obviously).
@sorabulq Insulting other genres of music shows your lack of knowledge. I personally hate pop but I don't dis it because I know there are many out there who enjoy it. Saying Metal is talentless random noise is total bullshit. Either you are listening to hardcore screamo or are just not listening to the proper types of metal. Never generalize a genre.
@sorabulq Yeah they are good but not the best (that doesnt includes Hendrix D:) other 1s like :Dimebag Darell,Paul Gilbert,Joe Stump,Yngwie Malmsteem,John Petrucci,Joe Satriani,Steve Vai,Rustey Cooley and more but that 2 arent the best, they're good but not the best.JIMI HENDRIX!
sometimes when i just hear the song i feel.. the feeling of the song (can't explain) and sometimes it makes me cry. thanks jason for giving your gift of music to me you are my hero dude !!! RESPECT + 32423132112548754..... 1 !
Everytime i hear this i want to cry cuz i remember he cant play like that again in my lifetime although i hope to god that he will be able to again... LONG LIVE BECKER!
Jason was the one of the few guitarist who let their emotion flow from their music and did it true... this song has words but its the bible of the guitar!
This song is great, but Malmstien, Becker, Michelangelo, and a few others are all of the same cloth and on the same level. Once you get to the point these guys got to, there's no upward movement as a guitarist anymore. There's always more to do, but not better to get.
This was the first piece of music I herd from Jason Becker when I was first discovering him. It always, to this day gives me chills down my spine. Hearing note by note. It gives a tear to my eye to the more things Jason could of accomplished if it wasn't for his ALS.
@MaLaKaThIsS What do you mean could of? Even though he's incapable of playing himself he still composes with great feverence, leaving the execution to his closest colleagues. Jason is a gift from God, an example of how we can accomplish anything no matter what our affliction may be.
Jason hands down is the best. He has great Emotion and Technique and can turn songs you'd he on the violin to guitar. Is there anything he CAN'T do?! (Before He got Paralaized and damn ALS)
Fuck! I've just found about this guy. He's fuckin' amazing. I've read his bio while listening to this song and I've almost cried. Thanks Jason for this outstanding piece of music. I wish that life wouldn't suck this bad sometimes.
