I'm a conservative and while I disagree with Dennis's views, I respect him far more than most people on the left. At least he believes what he says and isn't doing it for some underhanded reason. Nope, she didn't shut him down. In congress each time a person speaks they're given a time limit. They may ask for an extension and it's usually granted, but that's how it works, after the allotted time, the gavel is banged and the current speaker is informed their time is up (which is what she was doing). The rules are more complex than that, but that's basically how it works.

I'd actually be a little more comfortable if Obama's rules were imposed under an already NATIONAL healthcare system, rather than trying to turn private insurers into charities, which they most certainly are NOT. Do the people who craft these silly regulations EVER read economics textbooks or journal articles? Did they even pay attention in Econ class in college? Keynesianism is no excuse for bankrupting insurance plans. I'd be a little more comfortable if the public option were still here.

And the worst part of the current plan is that very few of the people who drafted it have ANY economic sense. All the extra mandates will likely drive insurers out of business, increasing the uninsured population and forcing them to either add to the public healthcare rolls or go bankrupt for healthcare once again. "Insurance reform" my ass. It's just telling insurers to cover MORE expensive people but not allowing them the economic tools they need to lower or contain costs. Nonsense.

Obama and the Dems' current main healthcare proposal, without the public option, looks MUCH less inviting, esp. to a libertarian like me who knows LOTS of pro-market tools that could lower costs and allow consumers to regain their power in the healthcare market. Republicans are doing a disservice to the country if they don't provide at least one ALTERNATIVE healthcare bill in this debate and just oppose the Democrats'. CEO hours vary greatly. They can work 20-80 hour work weeks, depending on the type of business, the size of the business, etc.

Also, you can not look at hourly wages so linearly. Hourly wages/salaries are determined by a plethora of reasons, the main ones being: supply and demand, difficulty of the work, skill of the worker etc.

Personally, I am in favor of a flat tax for everyone with no loop holes. The progressive tax is not american and needs to be done away with.

In america today we have fat poor people, I consider this amazing. Everyone has access to health care in america, even illegals. Anyone can walk into a hospital and be treated.

This is one of the few things I dislike about Kucinich: his bias against profit and big business. Now, it's great to hold business accountable every now and then, but you shouldn't make such facetious statements as "profit is what makes our healthcare system suck" or that profit somehow PROMOTES low-quality care. Profit makes the world go round! You think altruism can provide EVERYTHING? Altruism has a limit, and there'd be far fewer doctors in the US with ridiculously low salaries.

The problem is not profit, per se, but the lack of REAL competition in today's healthcare system. There's way too many fucking mandates by the state and federal governments. Consumers can't pick and choose the best plans for them and negotiate with insurers. Instead, they have to take whatever the state says the insurers must provide as a basic minimum.
