Leonard Nimoy most certainly could have been a leading man, but not at that time! What he's saying is that he was too "ethnic" to be a leading man in the 50's and early 60's. They wanted the "all-American boy."
If he had been born 20 years earlier in the early days of Hollywood, he would have been a leading man like Rudolph Valentino. If he had been born 10 years later he would have been a "new man" type of lead like Al Pacino.
I got to meet him in the 1970's and he was stunning...literally!
This is a remarkably good interview, considering that it is from a fan. Do we know who this gentleman is? He is very composed and thoughtful. He acts like he's done some work in front of the camera before. The truly unusual thing is that his voice sounds a lot like that of Gene Roddenberry.
I think if I were in his shoes, interviewing Mr. Nimoy, I'd be a bundle of nerves. Mr. Nimoy was pretty formidable in those days. Always polite, but very intense, he's mellowed considerably.
@ConstantTweeter Sorry for my late reply.YouTube had bug so I cannot reply comments for week. It's ok to send PM but I prefer reply here. I don't know who he is.Like most Americans celeb ^^;; but I don't think he is a fan because we,fans, know what Spock and Mr.Nimoy are difference.
This is a real treasure of a find !Thank you for making it available for us all ! A very atractive and charming gentleman with a killer voice(among many other more admirable qualities) and that's true even today! And you really see that he also is a tease and has a naughty humor ! Live extra long and keep on propspering Leonard! \\ //_

Hey, Leonard, you're tall and strikingly handsome! But yeah, not a bland Tab Hunter type for sure. Thank goodness.
Everything about this man is beautiful. AND he's a pilot??? Holey moley! I never knew that before!
