Crysis lags like shit on certian parts for a completely unknown reason and I have 2gb of ram. All I know is i'm upgrading to 4gb. Maybe that'll teach my computer not to be a gay ass faggot. Plus my Cpu and Graphics card IS sufficient. Radeon HD 4830 and Dual-Core 1.6ghz, 2.4 when overclocked.
Memory affects ram.So what im saying is haveing less memory = less ram = slow computer.Haveing more memory = more ram = fast computer / so remeber do not blow 2g of memory on like 2 things becuase then your computer will run as slow as crap!!
More RAM = more multitasking. The more RAM you have the more photoshops you can open and so on. I have 8GB RAM but I only ever use under 50% of it, so it was a waste for me to upgrade from 4 to 8 =/
ok so if i have 4gb of ram right, and i have 2gb free and open a heavy program like photo shop and does not take all the 2gb free ram, will 4 FREE RAM make it open faster although it wont use it???
but the ram does not hold all data in ram right even if you dont turn it off it has to delete or "forget" as soon as you turn of a program ... how else would other pgorams use it in turns? it would become full
@TheRogueMonk well, that can happen and it will say something like ' not enough virtual memory' had it a few times before on my old computer when I was chopping up sounds and video at the same time.
How about first defining the difference between ROM and RAM, then moving on to volatile and non-volatile memory. Those are the basics which I think you should start with. Then move on to the generational notions of static and flash.
how can i upgrade my laptop to run better playing games like minecraft? i get tonnes of lagg and ive tried loads of different techniques but nothing seems to make a difference,so does anyone know if upgrading my laptop is the way to go and if so how should i go about doing it?
mmm your explanation is technically incorrect in many ways I would recommend learning what is the difference between Static RAM and dinamyc RAM both of them have no moving parts, so that is not the reason why static RAM is called static, also Flash memory is not called flash because it is fast
so if u have upgraded ur computer with more ram, and while u r working, the power goes off. do u lose all the data from just the ram or from the hard drive also.
ram is basically temporary memory that is used when u r running programs
so the more ram u hav the more programs u can use at once, and when u turn off the computer, memory that is stored on the ram is lost, not the hard drive
In other words, RAM is not random as its name suggests. The RAM is highly controlled and the storage can be directly ascertained. There is a decisive method that RAM utilizes to make its memory available to certain areas of the computer system.
The term RAM, calls out the distinction of volatility. However, all RAM is not Random Access (VRAM uses both Random Access and Serial Access features). More poignant, is that most of the other IC memory families also use Random Access architecture so the random accessibility of the RAM clan does not distinguish it from any of the other families of memories. Hence, RAM has become a noun meaning Volatile and no longer reflects the acronym or the random accessibility which it once represented.
@C2aimar123 Just throwing a query out there but how would you state the intensity of the game, i mean if it is graphics intense i concur with the i7-870 processer but if your not primarily focused on the aesthetic of the game, and rather the frame-rate and fluidity of the game then i opt for better processing speed which i also note may not entirely be improved with more RAM

Is there a way to get RAM back? like, if you have a huge program on your computer that takes up alot of RAM and you delete the program, would you regain that RAM back?
You HAVE to make sure you don't store your important documents on RAM!! All that stuff will be ERASED you turn your computer off!!! Panic!!! Be Afraid!!!
@bunga707 Yes you can use all your RAM up. Im not technical but maybe this helps. When you PC is low on RAM, it moves certain apps and programs out of RAM onto a space on the hard drive. If the computer needs to use the apps that were placed on hard drive, it takes them off the hard drive and puts them into RAM, and then takes another app/program and puts that on a space on the hard drive until it needs to use that again. Its called Memory swapping, someone who knows pc's will explain better.
Did you know that the internet uses half of your memory? When you burn a DVD, its a good idea to get off the internet because burning the DVD uses all of your memory. I messed up a few DVDs because I was also on the internet.

@iateyursandwiches you cant do anything really. your computer is fixing this and you cant do anything to speed it up aside from restarting your computer. you can buy more RAM which will make this problem less frequent or not happen at all.
@oS4Ko its pathetic u make a joke a lame joke actually and u think it makes you hilarious? your just retarded thinking a computer has that many gigs since your the 1 who said it did in the first place dumb ass

In a nut shell, the more RAM you have, the faster you're computer is going to operate. If you have a low amount of memory, and you are running a lot of programs and broswers, you're computer is going to run very slow. a Good computer now-a-days should have a basic 5GBS, I, myself, have 128 Gigs, maxed out running a x64 Bit Vista Ultimate with 1TB of internal memory, which is sadly half taken up already with my Library of music and videos =). More than 100k of programs? hell yeahhhh
Think of it like lanes on a highway as ram and cpu speed (this is VERY general) as the speed limit of all cars.
Traffic can go the speed limit and not be bogged down with not enough lanes.
But for most things, you really don't use that much data at once. So you have a couple cars on a gigantic highway going the speed limit, which makes ZERO difference in speed.
I can't see how you could have afforded 128gigs of ram, much less how it would make you comp faster.
but the it reduces your hard drive if you download a program that reduces hardrive memory and adds to ram,but if you hav a computer with the ram already with about 1 gb or 2 then your computer should run supremely fast, gaming computers about 500gb or 1tb bytes to it gaming computers are the best computers probaly in the world=D im 11 years old i kno many things i even signed up for my school to fix computers =D i dont kno all about computers but i study on youtube or wikipedia
Yes, RAM does make your computer faster. :) It's the open memory you have that's used to access anything, such as internet, gaming, ect. Nothing is permanently stored on it. It's just free space for the computer to work with :)
2GB of RAM is good enough for any computer right now. If you want it to be more capable, go higher. 3--8 GB is more than enough.
And if your computer runs out of RAM to store temporary files on, it will move all of that information to a temporary zone on your Hard Drive. This can take a long time, seeing as RAM transfers data at an average of 2gb per second, while hard drives are at least 2x slower.
That is why a lot of RAM is always good to have, because it limits the amount of data needed to be moved to your hard drive
u can go to control panel choose performance and maintenance and choose see basic information about your computer and click on the panel that says general and it should say how much ram u have. i dont know what u mean by what kind of ram u need for your computer. if u mean how to like get ram u need to buy thingys of ram(i forgot what they're called) and open your computer tower and insert the ram thingys in some sorta slit.
you have to buy it and install it, goto where you can buy it (walmart, best buy, radioshack, ect) and ask a computer guy (technition) and they'll help you
i dont know where you are but, you can buy and expand your memory RAM, for faster access...
but there are things that you need to consider...
because there are motherboards(main board) thats has limits in RAM, for example... your motherboard can only use a RAM that has the size of up to 512mb, so you cant upgrade you RAM if thats the case...
so you must also buy new motherboard for that, but if not... good...
as long as your motherboard can handle the RAM, thats ok
ok all you have to do is pop down to your local computer store ask for a few gb sticks of ram they should not cost too much and dont worry about the brand as they all work exactly the same after you have done this simply open up your computer by unscrewing some medium sized screws which can be removed by a philips screwdriver on the back side of your case make sure you slide open the the correct side of the case and then simply install it by looking for some longish slots on your motherboard
first u must figure out how much can your computer can sustain (hold). than based on that u must buy the RAM device from a electronic shop. now ur ready to install to ur computer. the computer manual should show how to do that or u can find it in the internet.
Could htis possibly be why Windows Movie Maker is not publishing videos about 4 mins in length? i use a program named fraps which uses alot of space but could htis possibly be the reason that i need ram? PLEASE REPLY!
Hum. Re-install windows movie maker. I definitely don't think it's the ram. How much RAM do you have? It might be the processor? Let me know the specs of your computer. Then I'll try to help you better. Thanks.
well then its not ur ram. it could be a virus slowing down your computer. or you just dont have insufficient hard disk space. it could also be due to insufficent processor clock speeds. open ur task manager (ctrl+alt+del) and tell me what you see under the performance tab with no programs running, then tell me what it says with your program running.
When i ctrl alt del i don't get tabs. All i get is task and status, i don't even have a red X to close it i have to go to the bottom right and click close on it.
what os do you have? well to answer ur queestion its not ur ram. its prob a virus scan your system. if you scan your system and find nthing, the cleanup your disk or defragment it (assuming you know how to do that)
i got ram today and got it installed but for some reason my computer is still going slow?? so i wanted to find out if the ram has to still take a while to activate how long does it take??

it means that a game with more data and such that usually makes ur compulter "Lag" the ram at 2gb will operate very smooth
at 517 mb which is for normal computers not gaming computers, is basicly simple and ur bound to lagg on higher data games

Do you really need a motherboard to support more memory?
Try finding some supercomputer info before posting your personal use information.

More than 100k of programs? hell yeahhhh

to a FREAKING degree.
I can't see how you could have afforded 128gigs of ram, much less how it would make you comp faster.
matchbox2022 2 years ago
unless you're running some kind of weather simulation. which on a pc, I say not bloody likely.
The most you'll EVER need right nowadays is 20gigs. like, ever.
matchbox2022 2 years ago
@matchbox2022 actually 4gb is the most youd need for good gaming

your computer cant support 128 gigs of ram and if it did i would just buy a new computer u dumb ass
pruanePathetic 2 years ago
It's not possible to have 128 gigs of RAM. It is only possible for the hardrive to have that much.

how do u find ur memory?
TheBrokenfingers 2 years ago
but the it reduces your hard drive if you download a program that reduces hardrive memory and adds to ram,but if you hav a computer with the ram already with about 1 gb or 2 then your computer should run supremely fast, gaming computers about 500gb or 1tb bytes to it gaming computers are the best computers probaly in the world=D im 11 years old i kno many things i even signed up for my school to fix computers =D i dont kno all about computers but i study on youtube or wikipedia
shawnllama 2 years ago
Yes, RAM does make your computer faster. :) It's the open memory you have that's used to access anything, such as internet, gaming, ect. Nothing is permanently stored on it. It's just free space for the computer to work with :)
2GB of RAM is good enough for any computer right now. If you want it to be more capable, go higher. 3--8 GB is more than enough.
I liked Jonathan's word on RAM, by the way. ha ha
toonygamer2004 2 years ago
And if your computer runs out of RAM to store temporary files on, it will move all of that information to a temporary zone on your Hard Drive. This can take a long time, seeing as RAM transfers data at an average of 2gb per second, while hard drives are at least 2x slower.
That is why a lot of RAM is always good to have, because it limits the amount of data needed to be moved to your hard drive
wiz2111 2 years ago
OK, I know what RAM is, but I don't know what it does? Does make the computer faster?

how do you figure out how much ram your computer sustains and how do i find out what kind of RAM i need for my computer
bulldog2045 2 years ago
u can go to control panel choose performance and maintenance and choose see basic information about your computer and click on the panel that says general and it should say how much ram u have. i dont know what u mean by what kind of ram u need for your computer. if u mean how to like get ram u need to buy thingys of ram(i forgot what they're called) and open your computer tower and insert the ram thingys in some sorta slit.

i barely got any at all i only hav 512mb of RAM
plz giv me advice...
melikemaple 2 years ago
you have to buy it and install it, goto where you can buy it (walmart, best buy, radioshack, ect) and ask a computer guy (technition) and they'll help you
Joshua277456 2 years ago
i dont know where you are but, you can buy and expand your memory RAM, for faster access...
but there are things that you need to consider...
because there are motherboards(main board) thats has limits in RAM, for example... your motherboard can only use a RAM that has the size of up to 512mb, so you cant upgrade you RAM if thats the case...
so you must also buy new motherboard for that, but if not... good...
as long as your motherboard can handle the RAM, thats ok
bhatnogs 2 years ago
there is also types of RAM memory...
like
ddr1 ddr2 ddr3 sdRAM etc...
that is also the cases... if your motherboard slot is for ddr2, buy a ddr2 RAM... ^o^
hope i helped you
bhatnogs 2 years ago
ok all you have to do is pop down to your local computer store ask for a few gb sticks of ram they should not cost too much and dont worry about the brand as they all work exactly the same after you have done this simply open up your computer by unscrewing some medium sized screws which can be removed by a philips screwdriver on the back side of your case make sure you slide open the the correct side of the case and then simply install it by looking for some longish slots on your motherboard
Cozzi0 2 years ago
first u must figure out how much can your computer can sustain (hold). than based on that u must buy the RAM device from a electronic shop. now ur ready to install to ur computer. the computer manual should show how to do that or u can find it in the internet.

Could htis possibly be why Windows Movie Maker is not publishing videos about 4 mins in length? i use a program named fraps which uses alot of space but could htis possibly be the reason that i need ram? PLEASE REPLY!
seanthamaster 2 years ago
Hum. Re-install windows movie maker. I definitely don't think it's the ram. How much RAM do you have? It might be the processor? Let me know the specs of your computer. Then I'll try to help you better. Thanks.
gtaxlmanager 2 years ago
ram is kinda helps the processor run fast for ur os operating system so it opens stuff faster but its sounds like ur is slow are u on a laptop
isaisai9192 2 years ago
No, but i'm on a windows vista desktop computer.
seanthamaster 2 years ago
you need to be more specific. how much ram do you have? it could be you ram or almost anything else. you need to specify the specs.
Smuczerproductions 2 years ago
i have 3 Gigs of ram.
seanthamaster 2 years ago
well then its not ur ram. it could be a virus slowing down your computer. or you just dont have insufficient hard disk space. it could also be due to insufficent processor clock speeds. open ur task manager (ctrl+alt+del) and tell me what you see under the performance tab with no programs running, then tell me what it says with your program running.
Smuczerproductions 2 years ago
When i ctrl alt del i don't get tabs. All i get is task and status, i don't even have a red X to close it i have to go to the bottom right and click close on it.
seanthamaster 2 years ago
what os do you have? well to answer ur queestion its not ur ram. its prob a virus scan your system. if you scan your system and find nthing, the cleanup your disk or defragment it (assuming you know how to do that)
