I don't CARE if the Nostalgia Critic hates this movie, I know that the thought of aliens inventing the pyramids is stupid, but at LEAST the movie was GOOD.
a glorious movie and series. Too bad universe ended up like the battlestar galactca wannabe it is. Now Atlantis on the other hand could use a continuation, as it was at least decent.
Most agree with those, i saw this movie in theaters when i was 13. too bad 2012 was a let down as was Godzilla, he also did Universal Soldier which was fun. Do you think Emmerich was inspired by Dune from Frank Herbert? i mean Stargate and Dune are very similar.
@Johnlindsey289 Sure. Stargate is basically a cross between Star Wars, Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Dune. Though Godzilla and 2012 aren't his greatest work, i still found them to be enjoyable, even if only on a somewhat mindless level. lol. Same with The Day After Tomorrow and 10,000 B.C.
Let's not forget the Fifth Element was also similar to this movie. But did you know Emmerich is a fan of the Dune novels? it's a fact it's said Emmerich is a fan of Egyptology and Frank Herbert's novels, you can point out some similarities such as Spader being like Mad'dib as a mesiah prophecized to stop greedy aliens, the aliens including Ra being like baron Vlad and the Harkkoenans, taming of beasts and a precious thing similar to the Melange,
I have such an attachment to this theme since I grew up with it...oh the nostalgia. I freaking love Stargate.
I can't wait to hear Arnold's return to the scifi/fantasy genre with his score for Voyage of the Dawn Treader. If it's anything like this score, it's bound to be epic. :)
This song is special for me: is the overture for one of my favorite movies. I think is the last movie that Roland Emmerich succeded in making something for posterity, if anything good was before it (maybe Moon 44 but barely).

@lptlp Wait, he did a review of it? I need to check that out!

@SuzieGuru He hasn't reviewed that one yet. He just mentions how "stupid" it is in his review of Godzilla.

@lptlp I don't get why people say that idea is stupid. We can't do it today with what they had.

This is one of my all time favorite sci-fi films. This, Making Contact, ID4 and The Patriot are Roland Emmerich's best films, imo.

Yes, composers often imitate themselves in a way. Which is fine. Especially if they have a good style of composing already. :)
PS
I first noticed this while watching a clip from some TV adaptation of Stargate and then I heard the classic "CDECFEDEC" melody from ID4.
