Almost any officer will tell you that the military is much better off with a 100% volunteer rate. Volunteers perform better than people who are drafted. Draftees are not willing to take as many risks, and in many cases will deliberately try to perform poorly/eccentrically to get discharged. Not to mention there are so many volunteers that there is a WAITING LIST to get in.

Ok, so I was at this rally, I'm actually at :37 on the left of the screen listening to the debate and at :52 with the back of my head (im famous! hehe) anyways, and I would consider myself pretty conservative and I was appalled at this protest. It was an abuse of the first amendment and I dont want people to think that all of the conservatives at a&m are right-winged radical lunatics because we aren't. This just got blown way out of proportion on both parties' parts.

what I was saying was that when i was out there they didn't have their fliers out handing them to people. Almost any officer will tell you that the military is much better off with a 100% volunteer rate. Volunteers perform better than people who are drafted. Draftees are not willing to take as many risks, and in many cases will deliberately try to perform poorly/eccentrically to get discharged. Not to mention there are so many volunteers that there is a WAITING LIST to get in.
Vietnam was 40 years ago. Things have changed. Get over it.

People need to understand that although YCT may seem bigoted at times, it's the indiginous culture of the university and town. Therefore people shouldn't be surprised by these types of events. Therefore, if you are looking for diversity and tolerance, you're at the wrong place. Not to say it's a bad university, because they have some of the best programs in the state, or most likely the south. But when it comes to these types of things...remember, it's the indiginous culture.

Never have I been so ashamed to tell someone that I go to A&M. It's horrible, this was a terible way of saying what you believe. It was immature, rediculous classless and not tactful by any means. And, it's on national tv. It was not sanctioned be the university at all. This is not how I, as a student, want to be veiwed...

I agree. People aren't against Obama because of his policies, most people who are against him have bought into this retarded fearmongering campaign that McCain started. I was willing to put up with the whole "beat the hell out of Obama" shirts, but egging the image of a person is in my opinion a threatening, disrespectful, gesture. Just FYI for people who are not familiar with Texas A&M.. Young Conservatives of Texas (YCT) has been doing ridiculous crap like this for years. They thrive on doing bigoted events for shock value so they can get their name in the press. The majority of students at A&M think they are pathetic and closed minded and can't stand them, as evidenced by the tons and tons of letters to the editor in the student newspaper condemning them every year.

Ok, so I was at this rally, I'm actually at :37 on the left of the screen listening to the debate and at :52 with the back of my head (im famous! hehe) anyways, and I would consider myself pretty conservative and I was appalled at this protest. It was an abuse of the first amendment and I dont want people to think that all of the conservatives at a&m are right-winged radical lunatics because we aren't. This just got blown way out of proportion on both parties' parts.

The Obama supporters are just so used to hearing obama TALK about change; they forget you can actually DO things. The Bill of Rights not only gives freedom of speech, but also the right to peaceful assembly. It would have stayed peaceful had the Obama supporters not made such a big deal and let the conservatives have their fun. There was no vandalism, the Aggie Conservatives brought their own props for the rally. BTW I am a current student at Texas A&M University and don't like either candidate.

This gathering is not a surprise in a town where any liberal/democratic bumper sticker is an open invitation for your doors to be keyed or your hood kicked in, or alternatively, being run off the road by a jacked up truck proudly displaying "W 2004" stickers with the driver leaning out the window shouting expletives. But they were probably all good Christians, so I guess it's OK.

I'd like to encourage you to spend some time down here and take a look at what I do, and what other students do daily before making that sort of generalized judgment. Yeah, we have our share of idiots, but there ain't a single university that doesn't have some group which can ruin everyone's reputation in an instant. Depending on your university I could very likely find similar or worse examples in your school history. Don't do what TV loves to do and let the bad, exciting apples blur the truth.

what I was saying was that when i was out there they didn't have their fliers out handing them to people. I was there for 4 hours I was one of the first people out there and I saw at least 12 people throw their eggs and walk away WITHOUT a flier or a conversation or anything. What I was upset with was the way that it made a&m look with the tour of elementary school students walking by watching saying oh they're racist and on the other side the prospective students and their parents walking by.
