bollocks they didnt give a shit about ian the way he sprawlled helpless on the floor, while they carried on and took the piss, and yes new order have admitted they could and should have helped him more
@WhitstableWilliams .. you are obviously too young to know that New Order vowed back in the day never to do Joy Division songs. Thus shameful on their part to try to make a buck off of Ian.
@PrimerPodcast yes thats right ooh we changed our name cos its too painful, and wot a fucking din!ian will be turning in his grave cos this racket could wake the dead wot an insult
For a song that I thought sounded bland when Ian Curtis sang it (hits self), this is... amazing. So alive, so raw and... wow. And kudos on the camera work
I KNOW! Who'd ever thought that ppl would be moshing at a New Order show?!?!?! They fuckin' ROCK when they do JD!!! If Ian and JD were still around, their pits would be deadly with Warsaw era tracks! Btw NO, let's get Gillian back please, I've always loved NO's female element!
Definitely. I've always thought the Warsaw-era material was the best, so I am a bit biased, but I think that Bernard really does well with shorter, more percussive vocals than with long, held-out words.
Ian Curtis wrote many of these songs and when he sang them it added meaning to what he wanted to say. But New Order is okay even if its their song it sounds better with Ian singin it.
"350125" and "31G" ... These numbers refer to Rudolf Hess's prisoner of war number 31G 350125. Around the time this song was written there was increasing public interest in how and why Hess had been kept in more or less solitary confinement at Spandau prison for several decades.
It's a good performance but it absolutely PALES in comparison to the performance they gave at the Warehouse in Preston in March 1980. It's available on CD.

Bland ???
Ian may have had his faults, but bland was definately NOT one of them!
gorditcho100 2 years ago 5
I did hit myself ;)
And by bland I meant it sounded less.... raw than most other JD songs. idk if it was the right word to use come to think of that....

Wow, Barney's voice never sounded more raw when doing a Joy Division cover. His voice fits this song quite well compared to some of the others.

Why is that New Order sound the best live when they play Joy Division songs? ; p
robotorb 3 years ago 20
Yes, I love New Order in general; but when they play old songs like this one, it's so raw and pure that I want more.

yess barneys vocals are very suited to this even though no one will be better than ian
smonny9 3 years ago 3
It's messed up, but I actually think Barney's vocals suit this song better than most of their live Joy Division covers.
