  • Aaaaahhhh I just burped!

  • George Bush playing the guitar?

  • hmm I just burped 2:37

  • Okay, that "banjo roll" he does around 4:18? I've tried to search that technique numerous ways and cannot find any lessons on how to do it. I've been finger picking for decades but never learned that one! What is it called ("banjo roll arpeggio?) and what site or link can I use to find an explanation of it? I know what he's doing with his right hand but I'm lost with how to integrate the left hand progression. CHET RULES!

  • @JeddMcHead Search Danny Gatton lessons, he teaches it in hybrid style, but you can finger pick it too. And be prepared to spend a while on it.

  • @jay10249 Excellent, thank you, I'll check it out!

  • "Just a banjo roll...."-Chet. hahahah what a understatement from the Master himself. lol

  • i just burped!

  • 0:42 pinky style :D

  • There wasn't a guitar that sounded or played right the day Chet Atkins passed away. Those that tried could only play sad tunes. How does music replace a guy like that?

  • I've hung around 50's-90's Gibsons and Fenders all my life (rock N Roller) but I don't know squat about the guitar Chet is playing. What kind of guitar is that? whatever it is I got to get my hands on one. Seems to play like a dream!

  • @5inthehole he made the damn thing himself. look up "Gibson Chet Atkins SST"

  • ughh. I just burped.

  • He banged the shit out of Maybelle

  • @savemyplaylist wow, and u say marijuana is stupid

  • @sharkyoneniner I bet he shoved his prick deep in her tight, puckered asshole!!!

  • @savemyplaylist marijuana should be legalized, and u should be raped constantly by a pack of hungry dingos

  • @savemyplaylist HAHAHAHA

  • was maybelle alive when he wrote this?.....she probubly would have loved it

  • @CoreysOldLady I dont think so. But she would have loved it

  • 1:22 check out the mean banjo roll face!

What an amazing song by an amazing player. I will have to try and learn this now!

  • Chet would've been the best grandfather you could wish for.

    RIP.

  • I just burped.... what an epic guy!

  • What a beautiful song .....im not going to sleep tonight , im going to stay up and learn this till I drop and then I will just end up dreaming about this song cause the melody wont let me be. Thanks for posting

  • Chet Adkins will always one of the best Guitar Players, along with B.B. King and Roy Clark, I'd be proud to learn from either one of them. I love the traditional Country Music. The harmonica players, Deford Bailey and Tony Wheeler from Roy Acuff's band. Best Wishes LittleCountryDJ

  • RIP

  • "I just burped."

  • just burped

  • "Just a banjo roll." Riiiight. "Or you can do it backward." Suuuuure. Boy, if I could do anything as well as he does that, I'd be a happy man.

  • You can't get any better tribute than Chet Atkins playing your tunes.

  • My parents were in Richmond, VA to attend an AgriBusiness conference, in the Fall or Winter of 1979 or Spring of 1980. They invited me to join them for dinner one night. As a busy college student I politely declined, until my father sad Chet Atkins and Roy Clark, were playing after dinner. That was more than I could resist. Good Lord am I glad I went. Never got to see Chet play live again, but I was less than 20 ft. away from them both that night and awed every minute.

  • I can think of no other who brought such class and respect to the guitar and it's ability to produce beautiful music. As Bach and Beethoven was to the piano, Chet was to the guitar.

  • Mr,guitar himself!!! great! Chet is cool!. r.i.p Chet.

  • ROFLOL@donepearce!!!!

  • 497 likes and 6 dislikes. What kind of a person do you have to be to dislike this????

  • @OuKrokodil 1 in 83

  • 2:33 o i just burped LOL!!

  • "All mistakes are intentional" lmao

  • He has absolutely no gaps in his playing. Complete and rounded as he was natural and pure, like Art Tatum. Need to watch Atkins videos everyday.

  • @cave82 that was a mistake! sorry - trying to vote down on the Elliot Smith comment haha

  • Elliot Smith played like this, but not like this.

  • Elliot Smith sounds like played like this, but not like this.

  • Back in the 1950s Chet was known to Play back up for Mother Mabel

  • One of the best that ever did it!

  • Could somebody PLEASE tell me what kind of guitar that is!!!

  • @colotron Gibson SST Fleur de Lis

  • just finished it....

not that dificult...but not for beginners...just listen cerfully as he plays it slowly

  • I love how hes such a concise teacher, unlike the other bullshit on youtube. "the key is to learn the pentatonic scale like so ... " but the worst is when their like " ok now that you learned the proper way to hold your instrument, its time to tune it." it makes me mad.

  • Brings to mind the old adage: "If you can't teach, play!"

  • And some people ask why I like someone picking a guitar.

  • My great grandfather taught Wildwood Flower to my grandfather who taught it to me. I've played it most of my life and played it at my Mom's funeral. It is a special tune to me and I like to think I've got pretty good at it over the years.

Everytime I start thinking I'm pretty good at pickin' my guitar though, I see something like this and am again humbled.

It's a wonderful journey and it's all about the music!

    Thanks for this one!

  • @BGDonH Hi. If your'e anything like me---someone will always make you feel humbled. And, I've been playing 40+ years. The whole thing is NOT how good you are; But; what you teach someone or they teach you. It's always a challenge. And I hope I never stop Learning.

  • Damn, i have no idea how to do a banjo roll. i quit =P

  • Dang, he throws in a quick rake before that banjo roll.

  • Oh. I'm going to loose hours learning this one. what a great song.

  • This is the sort of thing that makes Youtube so good.

Is there any sheet music available for this song?

  • what a musician this guy was

  • I may as well never have touched a guitar in my life.

  • Chet Atkins was THE BEST. There will never be another like him.He was my uncles idol.

  • chet atkins la classe superbe!!!

  • Une pure merveille d'un Maître incontestable

  • Je ne me lasse jamais de l'écouter ! Quelle merveille!

    !

  • I adore the care-free feel of this song so much...

  • Something of mine, or somebody's...brilliant.

  • Something of mine, or somebody's...brilliant.

  • awesome guitar

  • 'i juat burped' what a legend, on and off the guitar.

  • 6 People have fat fingers.

  • i would die for his fingers

  • What's most amazing is that while he's playing this, he's lsitening to Britney on his iPod.

  • @donepearce thank you that was good!

  • i m agree with you , its look like easy to play ...

  • OMG so so so amazing

  • FANTASTIC !

  • Until I have always regarded him as being overrated. But this video clearly reveals that his a true master of the guitar. RESPECT

  • The master has spoken.

  • An amazing talent. True genius on the guitar. It makes me sad I'll never be anywhere near that good.

  • @mildomcduff Practice mate. :)

  • Will someone tell me how to play that A Augmented ( the second chord in the progression)

  • Comment removed

  • @IBG67 Second chord is E. To augment raise the B to a C

  • This is TRUE genius, and mastery of the guitar.

  • Remarkably beautiful chord progression.

  • This is quite amazing.

  • Perfection. Period.

  • Man, can't wait til I'm old...So I can make faces while performing, and actually look cool.

  • i want that guitarrrr

  • 6 haters

  • Wow. chet was a genius.

  • I've probably watched this video a hundred times, never gets old. I love how he lips maybelle on the second time through.

  • hahahahaaa "all mistakes are intentional"

my god, Chet, you're amazing. I'd LOVE to have been able to meet you :(

Hope you're still jamming away up there buddy

  • looool "just burped"

  • Hey Happyadar......Not a brilliant guitarist???? Where the hell are you from? Chet Atkins and Andres Segovia are the 2 greatest guitarists ever. Period. Their musicianship and humility remain unsurpassed to this day. You obviously know nothing about them or the contributions they both made to their instruments popularity today.

  • 2:38 "Just burped" HAHAHA.

  • What a real inspiration.

    Chet was a real one-off.

  • Irreplaceable, but his legend lives on in men like Tommy Emmanuel.

  • Chet is the man. Great stuff.

  • Not only a brilliant guitarist but a genuinely good man. I miss him very much.

  • If those were those were the kinds of mistakes I made I'd be a very happy human being.

  • those fingers were magic

  • Wonderful player ! Miss him greatly.

Does anyone happen to know what guitar he is playing ? I would love to own this guitar .

  • and a harmonic , hes hilarious

  • Oh sure...makes it look easy

  • i love this man

  • please see my version of freight train.

  • Haha all mistakes are intentional

  • While living in south of Nashville I had the opportunity to watch Chet perform live in the ? Cafe Milano? ( It was 1998 I believe) to sit an arms length away from this true genius was an experience never to be forgotten.

  • Foda!

  • Drunk thought of the night: I can't wait until "they" can fully map neural networks and recreate them so talent like isn't lost once a person dies.

  • @GetDrunkAndWatch Damn I wish I had drunk thoughts like that. ...and you have the best screen name! Can I change my name to GetDrunkAndWatch2? It really does apply to me too!

  • This is good but I can't see where he has anything to teach Mama Maybelle!

  • This brought a big smile to my face - Awesome.

  • @FunkyMonk31 I was just going to see the same thing! I especially like the part towards the beginning, where he's got his eyes closed, mouthing, "Maybelle." Oh Man,,,Nothing beats what he "feels" at that moment!

  • @ChicagoStyleMusic your exactly right mate - to get to that point as a muso where u are at one with your instrument is truly amazing and i would think its an unexplainable sensation for each person :) Maybe one day ill get close to this euphoric feeling ;)

  • Only one like him, what a successful life this musician and host had. Listen to his bass player, Paul Yandell's CDs, if you need to hear more of the Chet style!

  • Go Chet~!!~

  • This is the coolest thing I have ever seen on Youtube

  • This is the coolest thing I have ever seen on Youtube

  • "I just burped." - Chet Atkins

  • How I miss this guy.

  • I wish he would've done more singing than he did... He had a great voice but for some reason or another didn't like doing it... He's still the MACK DADDY regardless!!!

  • WOW aawesome any videos of chet and mother maybelle together

  • Just a banjo roll... Oh, and you can play it backwards

  • @Jamler3 Oh yea, no big deal. It's simple really. (If you happen to be Chet Atkins.)

  • @Jamler3 I KNOW! I can only watch a little and then my inferior complex kicks in and I can't pick up a guitar for days til I get over it and say what the hay...

  • the one and only!

  • Anyone know what brand and model Chet's guitar is here? I love that guitar. Great performance by a true musician and master of his craft ;).

  • incredible!

  • Absouluty AMAZING!

  • ah yes...the wild wood flower.....Chet wherever you are....i do hope you brought some seeds.......sure miss you !!!

  • i just barped Lol jerk ass lol good man

  • All mistakes are intentional he says

  • What a beautiful guitar and musician. I watch this and don't even want to attempt it out of respect

  • @kenraq2000 for me? I have respect but more so an inferiority complex.

  • That is the true face of satisfaction

  • A legend I would have love to have met. He introduced guitar playing ahead of it's time. A pleasure to watch the master- indeed he will live on forever.

  • I love Chet.

    Always have.

    It's primal.

  • "All mistakes are intentional" is such a throw-away line in this video, but I found it very comforting to hear.

  • greatest of all time!

  • "i just burped"

  • That's President Bush...he and Chet are good friends

  • @gareof Everybody that had any sense loved Chet Atkins.

I just aint sure they would be good friends...

  • Getting to sit down with Chet Attkins while he walks you through a guitar song is priceless. It's so incredible to see how nonchalant he is about his own mastery.

  • "...its just a banjo roll..."

    Rock on, Chet...RIP

  • Does anyone know what kind of guitar that is?

  • @srlloyd21 its a gibson chet atkins model im pretty sure

  • I like this. It's obvious that Chet was musician first and foremost. The guitar is just one of the instruments but has i t's pros and cons. His style shows a side of the guitar as well as the classical cats that soloing isn't always the main focus of a versatile musician.

  • "All mistakes are intentional" - not only a classy way of addressing a flubbed note or two, but some great advice in its own right. This dude is really something else.

  • Sorry, I don't know what a "banjo roll" is. Can anyone tell me cause it's too fast for me to catch it on this great video.

  • Sorry, I don't know what a "banjo roll" is. Can anyone tell me cause it's too fast for me to catch it on this great video.

  • A sweet tribute to a sweet and wonderful woman. Thank you, Chet Atkins!

I remember when Chet--and Maybelle, too--came to Dogpatch that time, years ago. Now THAT was some good music and a real nice visit!

  • lovin the whole country jazz thing he's doin he's a real genius and i wouldn't even listen to him if it weren't for Lenny Breau

  • hes not dimebag darrell but i bet dime listened to him lol

  • In the 234567 year I will play guitar as he does.

  • As Chet has said, Tommy Emmanuel is the best fingerstyle guitarist now, but Tommy admits he was inspired by Chet...what a pair!

  • So far, this and Freight Train are the only Chet tunes I can play, but they are so enjoyable to play and hear!

  • "hmmgff...I just burped" I love this guy

  • Perfect song...

    Rest in peace..:(

  • People this talented deserve to live forever

  • @randomtildeath and his work will, hopefully =)

  • @randomtildeath His music live on forever. I'm sure that's all he wants and that by god is what he gets. RIP CHET

  • @randomtildeath they do, in the memories and all the frequencies that capture generations.

  • @randomtildeath - Haha... Chet would say... Nah... "Once you become predictable people lose interest"... People this humble should be paraded for the world to see and love. He always used to say, I really wanted to get good at playing guitar and I'll get there one day... RIP Chester...

  • @randomtildeath Their music deserves to live forever. :) Eternity for a human would be torture - But if living forever involved staying young I would agree with you. :)

  • @randomtildeath hes rubbed off on a lot of us - guess thats how he gets to go on.

  • @randomtildeath And what of those who aren't nearly as talented but just as human as him? No one deserves anything but death, and only those who trust in the Lord God Almighty, Jesus Christ will inherit(not out of pay, but as a free gift) eternal life. John 3:36 "Whoever believes in the Son has ETERNAL LIFE, but whoever rejects the Son shall not see life, for the wrath of God remains on him." Repent and Believe in God's word for your life, tomorrows not promised you.

  • @vanduiam88 wow. just had to squeeze in a little bible beater there.

  • @vanduiam88 So you only deserve water and food and shelter because you believe in God and Jesus? Eternal life always seemed a bit selfish to me.

  • @vanduiam88 Ezekiel 23:19-20

  • Well...I guess it's time to put the guitar back in the case...Why couldn't this guy have lived to be 100?

  • Very nice, excellent sound from the master...

  • haha he burped.

  • it happens

  • Casual, laid back playing. In my opinion the greatest guitarist ever

  • que bueno

  • this Giant proves

    there is guitar playing possible

    without all those weird "Jazz-freak-around"

  • Well, I disagree with his comment about Hendrix. And besides, who could compare such randomly assorted trash to this genious musical arrangement. Jimi is probably the most overrated player in history.

  • @MiracleMan9978 People confuse innovaters with good players.

  • THis is beautiful playing ,,

    *Barry*

  • I like everything I've ever seen or heard chet do . It's to the point that his comment "all mistakes are intentional" Made me LMAO!
