Okay, that "banjo roll" he does around 4:18? I've tried to search that technique numerous ways and cannot find any lessons on how to do it. I've been finger picking for decades but never learned that one! What is it called ("banjo roll arpeggio?) and what site or link can I use to find an explanation of it? I know what he's doing with his right hand but I'm lost with how to integrate the left hand progression. CHET RULES!
There wasn't a guitar that sounded or played right the day Chet Atkins passed away. Those that tried could only play sad tunes. How does music replace a guy like that?
I've hung around 50's-90's Gibsons and Fenders all my life (rock N Roller) but I don't know squat about the guitar Chet is playing. What kind of guitar is that? whatever it is I got to get my hands on one. Seems to play like a dream!
What a beautiful song .....im not going to sleep tonight , im going to stay up and learn this till I drop and then I will just end up dreaming about this song cause the melody wont let me be. Thanks for posting
Chet Adkins will always one of the best Guitar Players, along with B.B. King and Roy Clark, I'd be proud to learn from either one of them. I love the traditional Country Music. The harmonica players, Deford Bailey and Tony Wheeler from Roy Acuff's band. Best Wishes LittleCountryDJ
My parents were in Richmond, VA to attend an AgriBusiness conference, in the Fall or Winter of 1979 or Spring of 1980. They invited me to join them for dinner one night. As a busy college student I politely declined, until my father sad Chet Atkins and Roy Clark, were playing after dinner. That was more than I could resist. Good Lord am I glad I went. Never got to see Chet play live again, but I was less than 20 ft. away from them both that night and awed every minute.
I can think of no other who brought such class and respect to the guitar and it's ability to produce beautiful music. As Bach and Beethoven was to the piano, Chet was to the guitar.
I love how hes such a concise teacher, unlike the other bullshit on youtube. "the key is to learn the pentatonic scale like so ... " but the worst is when their like " ok now that you learned the proper way to hold your instrument, its time to tune it." it makes me mad.
My great grandfather taught Wildwood Flower to my grandfather who taught it to me. I've played it most of my life and played it at my Mom's funeral. It is a special tune to me and I like to think I've got pretty good at it over the years.
Everytime I start thinking I'm pretty good at pickin' my guitar though, I see something like this and am again humbled.
It's a wonderful journey and it's all about the music!
@BGDonH Hi. If your'e anything like me---someone will always make you feel humbled. And, I've been playing 40+ years. The whole thing is NOT how good you are; But; what you teach someone or they teach you. It's always a challenge. And I hope I never stop Learning.

I like this. It's obvious that Chet was musician first and foremost. The guitar is just one of the instruments but has i t's pros and cons. His style shows a side of the guitar as well as the classical cats that soloing isn't always the main focus of a versatile musician.
