But if you generally like Wilson's music (Porcupine Tree, Blackfield...) and you admit the quality of his work -no doubt he's a touched-by-God-musician, original, consistent, surprising, technically superb- I think it is incongruous to say something like he has done poorly with something. That's a personal judgment that demands a better justification on your part than an "I don't like this song".

I know I am being nit-picky... but right before the bridge comes in, it just cuts right into it abruptly. It almost sounds like the two were recorded separately and the bridge was just pasted in. It doesn't sound right to me... other than that, it's amazing.

I think that's the point exactly. He is all about the idea of fragmented and disjointed sound, strangeness, breaking something melodically beautiful with noise etc. I think he achieves this perfectly in this song.
