  • heel erg mooi ja hoe kan je zoiets maken he..

  • Zo ontzetend mooi......

  • Mache dich, mein Herze, rein ...

Mr. Gaddafi, are you watching this wonderful peace of music? It will give you peace.

  • The moment where Jesus has to take his own cross made poetry, This aria sometimes makes me cry :´( it's so amazing and pretty good hear it with ancient instruments by Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra cond by Tom Koopman

  • Oh, BTW, Matthews and Johns passions are played every year before Easter week at the original premiere place, St. Thomas Church in Leipzig. I have listened to both....it is an incredible experience which I can recommend to all members of this board.

  • I love rock music: Springsteen, Petty, Stones....Bach is definitely the best composer EVER. With the Mathews passion he reached the absolute zenith. I listen to it from time to time. "Mache dich mein Herze rein" is the most beautiful peace of the passion and a true masterpiece of music. It is so intense, drives me almost to tears. For me, it symbolizes the expression of human existence, of our limited existence on this earth and of my own end. I´d like to be played this one on my funeral.

  • ..OH RIGHT, OF COURSE...OK.......SO THAT'S 6 PEOPLE WITH NO FUCKIN SOUL IS IT ?....OK.

  • Glad I'm not the only one watching this over and over . .

  • Just OUTRAGEOUSLY GOOD!!!!!

  • about expressing gratitude to whomever uploaded this -- Sir/Madam, there was a good possibility I would have never heard this if it wasn't for your generosity and willingness to take one's time to do it. I am certain to speak on behalf of hundreds of others: you have made our lives richer. Thx. Danke. Merci. Gracias.

Commentaar geven is bijna heiligschennis.

  • life doesn't get much better than this...

  • bach is genius! like to be digged in a grave alive , if somebody will sing like that because of my funeral...

  • Takes mine away too. Incredible!

So amazing how Bach manages to make the music fit the words so perfectly.

  • Beautiful aria. It takes my breath away...

  • What the hell are your problems??? Just enjoy the music or leave, it's easy like that!

  • To me it is the very center of the Mathews's Passion, the Joseph of Arimatea's words to rescue the Christ's body from Pilatus. They are the first consolating words heared from the death. That's why it must be not sung in a very sorrow way. The resurrection is getting prapared...

  • Sublime!!!!

  • An attractive but not massively inspiring version of this beautiful aria. All the notes are there and the tempo chosen seems fine ( there's no absolutely right tempo for this aria but it shouldn't drag). I found a Thomas Quasthoff clip of him singing this (but can't find it now) which conveys much deeper emotion.

To the other posts: remember JSB (1685-1750) was inspired by the Passion and believed in God. We should not foist our 20th century concepts of belief on this work.

  • This work will never be diminished - could never be - by any negative criticism of the religious beliefs Bach held... I think I was just commenting on another comment which attributed the beauty of the music to God. As a rational human being I could never draw such non-sequitur conclusions on humans' creative endeavors :-) The music is beautiful.

  • It's a shame that God gets credit for such marvels...I often wonder if that sentiment isn't motivated by jealousy: "I could not have possibly created such a work - it must be divinely guided"?

How beautiful the roar of the Great Ape - and how boundless his scope. I am so happy to be a part of this epic accident!

  • @jcantlie :Of course, I couldn't agree more :-)

  • @jcantlie You can have Wagner. As for this, let the artist decide to whom credit is due. For Bach, it was S.D.G. Let it stand.

  • @NihilNominis Credit goes squarely to Bach - even if the dedication is to his invisible friend.

  • Koopman & the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra do it for me every time-Thank you- Just Perfect!!

  • You were pointing out what I was implying? Please read my post again "nor implied"...your own fears are at work here, but a spirited try nonetheless.

  • flipscratch you clearly are oblivious to the gross implications of your moronic statement. Basically you have stated: "Bach wrote a piece of music that I am incapable of writing. Not only does it make him amazing beyond miraculous proportions, but anyone who doesn't specialize in music or doesn't possess his talent cannot critique or say anything negative about him as it would be the equivalent of blasphemy." Your stupidity is fucking aggressive!

  • I said nor implied any of that. Think what you will. I think it's pretty clear after your post who the aggressive one is.

  • Clearly you can't distinguish between what is said and what is meant. I only pointed out the meaning (implication) behind your statement. In fact, if you could read properly you would have seen (in my previous comment) that I cited your entire statement word for word and told you the meaning behind it.

  • richard dawkins loves this piece of music

  • I have spent the last five hours viewing the film on the Spitfire and the Battle of Britain, and feel that this music might have been a splendid guild for the the peoples of Europe in the last century, rather than trying to build empires in a continent of such both similar and rather diverse cultures. The message here is one of consolation, and lettting the guidnce of Peace be our lead. Surely this is not only the music of the greatest musician to have been born, but the message the true light.

  • absolute topklasse!

  • great music, very beautiful :)

  • hahah.

  • It's my favorite aria of the Passion. So beautiful.

  • "Mache dich mein herze rein" what an amazing transitional aria. From despair and sorrow to hope and joy. There is life after death and Bach deeply believed this.

  • It would seem he did. This however doesn't make it true.

    The piece is beautiful though.

  • no it does not make it true, MJhavok, but until you can write a piece like this, Bach will be very convincing to the rest of the world when it comes to the debate for or against the existence of God. Bach writes music with more intelligence and sensitivity (aesthetically and mathematically) than any atheist scholar can write that I've read. Food for thought.

  • You honestly take that argument seriously? WOW

  • I do, whether God exists in the sense Bach believed or is some cosmological super intelligence without a face, many question the purpose in a life without a greater design.

  • Congrats, you fail at basic effective reasoning.

  • I guess Bach failed too? ;-)

  • You are comparing yourself to Bach? How modest of you.

  • No. Comparing gigie555 to Bach. (After all, that's who YOU were referencing) The only criteria in the comparison was that they both believe in God. That's matter of fact, not arrogant. Anything else?

  • @Mjhavok you posted this a year ago but it is still very funny

  • Comment removed

  • That is analogous with saying "Your opinion is dumb and old".

    AWESOME retort.

  • I love this piece so much. But I think Koopman made it too fast. The second phrase of this piece is "Ich will Jesum selbst begnaben" (I myself will bury Jesus). It should be full of sorrow. I have an recording from Karajan which catch the optimal tempo. But I do agree that Koopman's recording is very impressive in a few piece.

  • This marvellous oratoir was used by Michael Magne to make the Song "Cent Mille Chansons" sung by Frida Boccara and many others. If he made a statemente that it was a Bach tribute I see no problem. But if he didn´t it was a plagiarism!

  • nice...this is sublime.

  • This is the one aria that almost broke me to tears when I saw my first performance of St. Matt's

  • I agree. I'm not a sensitive person by any means, but when this aria is performed correctly it is a real tear-jerker, especially if you are a German speaker. Bach's St. Matthew Passion is Simply one of the greatest expressions of faith through art, and I'm not even a practicing Christian.

  • After watching this whole performance of the Matthäuspassion, I must say I love this bass. He's probably my favourite of all the soloists herein, and perhaps, too, my favourite bass I've heard in this role. Very, very impressive. Does anyone know his name?

  • He is the german bass-baritone Klaus Mertens. He appears in many of Ton Koopman's recordings.

  • yeahhh

  • This sentiment is very familiar to me: world, get out; let Jesus in. It's a world-rejecting attitude that causes a lot of trouble. It's also in the melancholy Dane, Kierkegaard.

  • thanku.

  • Bach IS GOD!!!

  • I'm sure Bach would be the first to stone you for saying that :)

  • Musicans are closer to God than anybody else because they can hear his voice.

  • if they want to listen ;)

  • my favourite aria in matthew passion..

"World get out! let Jesus in!"

    Wonderful

  • Is Bach the God? As far as I could tell, he was the closest to Him!

  • One of my favorites Bach-arias.

  • first view!!!!
