you are BORING. I just wanted a tutorial for doing the black and white thing, and i watched this for like 2 minutes and you did not say anything about that.
I DONT care about you liking the gray backrounds, and i DONT care about your habbit to duplicate layers that way. grrr
@CleverButClueless Thanks for your comment. Sorry you didn't find it helpful. Working with any graphics program can take a lot of patience. If you take a couple minutes to learn good techniques it can save you literally hours later. I was merely sharing the habits I've picked up that I've learned through extensive experience in the hopes that new Photoshop users won't make the same mistakes I did when first starting out.
@CleverButClueless No worries. I can understand the stress....working with computers can be very stressful in and of itself. :) Let me know if there's anything else I can do to help you get this technique down. Good luck!
mine doesnt create that new layer when i start using the pen, therefore when i go to select just the party that i outlined, it selects the whole outside of the image
You've probably created a work path instead of a shape layer.
As an alternative, you can go to Window/Paths and CTRL+LMB click on the work path you've created to turn it into a selection and continue that way. You can achieve the same result with a work path it's just not as visual since they're not stored in the Layers palette.
OMG this is amazing, thanks for sharing. I have only just stated using photoshop, i have been using Macromedia Fireworks for years, i always found Photoshop not very user freindly, i am looking forward to having a play with it. Thanks for sharing x
no matter what tool i click in photshop cs3 (pen, etc) it just shows the hand when i hover it over the picture i'm working with and i'm not able to do anything. please help!
no, but thanks for replying. I closed and opened the whole program several times and most of the time it still came up with a tool stuck on it that i couldnt use but every now and again i get lucky and it works properly. it is very annoying.
I thought your tutorial was very good. The only problem I had was the volume. It was very hard to hear you but I would definitely be interested in seeing more from you.
Thank you for the kind words! I've been very busy with deadlines lately, but if there's anything in particular you'd like for me to do for the next tutorial, feel free to let me know!
tanx 4 replying. well... since u asked hahah. can u do a video just for beginners like me showing all d cool tricks of photoshop? will really appreciate it. i followed this tutorial and i was able to duplicate it exactly but i still have some problem
Hey thanks for the comment biscodeal. I'm sorry if you were unable to understand what I was talking about. The concept is really pretty simple, but I'll admit that I'm not the best teacher in the world. Can you be more specific about what you think I wasn't specific enough about?
Well, I don't know what pen tool you're using - but there's only one in Photoshop (although there are different variations). It doesn't really matter though, as I only used the pen tool to create a selection.
wow~ great tutorial! wonderful job~ you should consider teaching~ u give really clear and step-by-step instructions~ I'm subscribing~ tyvm

so many scattered thoughts, not specific enough on certain points, what a waste of time.

Great video! Make some more!
When I use the pen tool to create a path, it doesn't fill in the shape like it did for you... are you using a different pen tool?
