I've just watched UFO Chasers on HD History TV like 30minutes ago and they had a wierd theory about this UFO Police Chase. They even thought it was Chinese Paper Lantern, but here's a question: From when can C. Paper Lantern travel faster then helicopter and almost 10 times faster then UK Fighter(Plane)?

I agree that it looks like a Lantern, however last November I saw something that looked exactly the same when I was in my garden here in Leicester. I looked up and saw this glowing object moving very slow I was just about to dismiss it as a Lantern but it then shot off at incredible speed over the rooftops and was gone in a matter of seconds. What I saw was most certainly not a Lantern, but I still think Eatboom's description below is correct for what the police filmed that night.

Clearly one of these paper lanterns that fill with the hot air from the candle suspended below it, causing it to ascent. The IR-footage proves it by showing the shape of the the lantern. The illusion of movement is from the helo circling it, just like the footage of offshore oil flares taken through clouds from an aircraft.

1) Search Youtube for "floating lantern" and several results will show You exactly what the police helicopter filmed. You discovered that Yourself, right?

2) The helicopter was circling the lantern at speed while the camera was zooming in and out, giving the ILLUSION that the lantern was moving.

I agree, those lanterns have caused a few people to believe they have seen ufo's. almost everytime people let them fly, people report them as ufo's.

The lanterns alone can't move as fast as a helicopter, but when they are in strong wind, they move pretty fast, the Helicopter flying gives the illussion that the lantern is flying a lot quicker than it actually is.

Ive seen 30 of these over Hereford, UK on 26/8/6 at 9.30pm. They were bright red/orange. It was amazing, Silent and low. Coming in in single file formation. They just disappeared one after another as they passed by. Havnt seen anything sice like that. If they were lanterns like some idiots claim, then why cant they produce the same effect like what we saw here? They cant so they just ignore it all. They were not lanterns end of story.
