  • That was awesome, nobody is perfect, but that piece give me goosebumps !

  • failure

  • guitar matters aside, it's sloppy played

  • To those of us who have performed solo works by Bach live, it's not easy! It's very easy to get "lost in the notes" and have memory slip type of problems which is I think what happened here! I'm still amazed he can play this on electric guitar; I've heard it hundreds of times on violin or classical guitar but never on electric. I'd love to see Gilbert attempt Bach's masterpiece the Chaconne!

  • He has a better version of the song on here where he is playing a really cool colored Fireman. with japanese symbols on it.

  • ya paul is my favorite but he messes up a lot in this surprisingly ???

  • @reapertcm It's a very difficult piece to play. Much more difficult than shredding...

  • crap, all the way

  • This song is really for Ibanez Fireman because it keeps the guitar's balance to your body while playing it.. allowing your hands to keep in position not worrying that your guitar would slip

  • black guy is waiting for his chance to steal the guitar

  • Big Paul fan. But he's pretty sloppy on this video.

    Never thought I'd say that...

  • @CrazyDave408 ..its good to see some sloppy playing from ..paul gilbert ...motivates me actually .......

  • @shishir16089 Yeah, whenever there's a video of him killing it on guitar and people are talking about quitting I laugh... Paul's crazy talent motivates me to practice that extra bit in hopes that I can be close to as talented as him some day.... hopefully. lol

  • @CrazyDave408 ya i know that its just because of paul gibert i have starte to practice //string skipping ..i love how pau gibert does it .....even his warm up exercises require practice ...damn i love his playing...

  • @CrazyDave408 I'm on both sides of that fence. while I'm watching, I want to quit, but once the video is over, I'm like, "DAMN IT! Must play 12 hours strait! every day!"

  • @CrazyDave408 I think its awesome. Shows that even paul isnt perfect, and shows that even if you make a mistake, you keep soldiering on, you dont let it stop you. <3

  • it seems about 50 percent of comments on any video now are just like begs tryin to be funny

  • This song is freakn awesome

  • Generic people hitting the dislike button. Seriously though, that was epic.

  • It's a big undertaking of a song jesus lol

  • Heh, he does what I always get yelled at for doing when I make a mistake, I play all the notes really fast to catch up instead of just go to the next part. We are all human hah

  • @cowcrusher nah it's free of tempo mostly. there are plenty of slowed down parts and sped up parts even on the record. I like it like that very much. kind of accentuates certain notes and seems more expressive. it's a solo piece - it's allowed :)

  • @MarkRiches I was talking specifically where he makes the mistake at around 1:20 and speeds up to compensate for his internal meter he set for this song. I understand playing rubato, but he generally he keeps it about the same meter with his extra frills. After 18 years and many instruments, teachers, orchestras and bands I still do what he does at 1:21 most of the time. I speed up to play all the notes and go back to "tempo" once I catch up, whether it rubato or even.

  • at least there's one video to show he's human!

  • poor paul :( I guess he was just too nervous to nail it

  • @spray32 Yeah, just playing by yourself is so exposed and it makes performing much scarier :)

  • I think if you break one of Paul's teeth off and play guitar with it, you'd be a god.

  • where was this?? on nsome kind of yapanese show?

  • At 1:17, the (fake) proof that he is humain.

But I bet he is faking it, just to make it look like he is humain.

Because I found only 4 mistakes in like a hundred videos and 2 live shows, so he must is more than a humain.

  • Two words> Anton Oparin. xD

  • its like listening to a 2 year old with a dinner plate and a fork............ bach would get a hard on

  • i love paul gilbert and he deservers all respect, but he has got some coordination problems on this...

  • @computerdborbo i saw it too...but then i thought..well i couldn't play it perfect either..and why should i bother even trying to play it perfect thats not the idea of music. its to express

  • @computerdborbo That's how it's played on the record; it's probably supposed to be played a little off. There's no metronome or anything; he's all alone up there. My guess is that you're probably supposed to just wing it. That's how I imagine it, anyway.

  • Ok, it wasn't his best, but this was badass anyways

  • Tab?? :)

    Great video btw!

  • ok listening to this without watching him (try it) forget its PG (who was and will be my alltime fav guitarist)

This is shakey at best--that tone is weak and there is no hiding with it whatsoever..I would have played that with a warmer tone and maybe a little delay ...it just sounds too rigid...and his playing is suspect throughout but he is entitled very rarely does the world see him on an off day that said PG still rules and fuzz universe is great!

  • why does he play really quite at 0:08?

  • @mrdunkerishere Probably to add some much needed dynamics. Bach kind of requires it or else it just ends up sounding like a jumble of notes and/or a scale exercise.

  • Watch and learn: search for 'chris thile at housing works'

  • I think Paul is nervous here.I think he is always pressured when he plays this Piece live. Not to mention he has only played this piece a couple of times live.

  • only 4 idiots.. this is good... love this piece of art ! Long life Paul Gilbert ! Can't wait to see him in Bucharest

  • Yeah i agree, something dont seem right here, but in the demo in another vid it sounds much better

  • Damn school... I have such a hard time with it nowadays, I don't get to play my guitar too much. I wish I could just quit and earn money for a living by playing my guitar... like Paul

  • 1:03 Paul hahaha he get out really bad hahaha it's like if he was thinking "what can i do here"

  • For Paul this is quite bad but for most people this is actually normal. Sometimes you just have a bad day, first time I see him play sloppy though, maybe he was drunk?

  • @ShredableGuitar he's just faking mistakes to appear human

  • @ShredableGuitar paul has a bad day like once every 5 years so i forgive him :P

  • @ShredableGuitar no that's how its MEANT to be played, assuming you are refering to the expression he has on certain notes and phrases ... its deliberate he does it in every vid of this

  • @claytonkillsyou Bach is not really meant to be played like this.

  • something sounds a bit off

  • every musician has an off day except paul gilbert he is just cloaking the evidence that he is a god and all joking aside I love Buckethead both of them are only human and mistakes make it seem more real allowing one to see no one is ever perfect

  • I friggin luv the finishing touch. It's so sublimely, and extraterestrially appropriate.

It was like some futuristic alien disguised as man was emulating baroque music, and got carried away at the end and exposed itself. Actually, I truly believe Paul G. is either a vampire or an alien sleeper who's sent to earth to study our culture.

  • DUDE?? THIS SOUNDS OFF FOR PAUL??

  • @renagade12 nooo it doesnt the distortion hes using doesnt keep the sustain of his guitar very long hes just being creative bro

  • @JDLMetalHead

yeah its a diff sound then im used to from paul.. but just got his new album... amazing!

  • @renagade12 i know seriously i like the song olympic too

  • it reminds me of paul taking a guitar exam for classical guitar school

  • I loved the take off with his flanger at the end haha got to love paul gilbert

  • i noticed, PG doesnt wear em headphones anymore.

  • @4everRock666 it depends of the venue, if he has to play too loud he wears them

  • was he drunk? this is a mess

  • @bucketheadfan011 are you shitting me?

  • @bucketheadfan011 Drunk...ha, you wanna see slop look up Binge And Grab live by Buckethead.

  • Comment removed

  • @bucketheadfan011 I agree. This is absolute shit and I love Paul. Something was off bad that day.

  • All that concentration!!

  • which partita is this? i've been searching because i wanted to hear this on violin..

  • @sofiaplaysguitar

    Partita II Giga

  • @TheJohnPetras Thank you so much :D

  • as much as i am a big Paul Gilbert fan, i completely forgot he had a solo album coming out,

i feel sorta bad that i forgot

  • Great footage. Gilbert is #1. Amazing doesn't come close....

    Cheers !

  • he has really bad tone

  • @gitariff but awesom none the less

  • @gitariff i think i difficult to get notes well defined at speed and still maintain a really smooth tone .even guys like kotzen and andy timmons sometimes mush at speed or they turn down the gain to almost zero or let the amp naturally over drive so as not create that farting sound petrucci does .its all triad of .what i will say live his tone was perfect .but yes i agree its not often amazing .

  • @gitariff

Sounds like my friends $100 dollar strat

  • Best part was 0:00 to 4:48 because I watched it twice!

  • @OneBlazedDood Yes, the problem I find when he plays is that it's never long enough. The album is awesome!

  • Where is the red fireman? SOOO GOOOD SONG BTW!~:):D:> rock on paul

  • @BisCoinPause

I shaked my head hard because a person from same country did such a shameful insult at Japanese sentence.

This is not your video.Did you record that? No way.

    Shame on you.

    クソ野郎? 鏡を見て来てはいかがでしょう。きっとそこにあなたの言うクソ野郎がいますよ。

  • @jephstiph aha, good eyes! I didn't spot that

  • @garotojuca1 paul's youtube is "paulvsgodzilla"..dont know what BisCoinPause is blathering about

  • Definitely not one of Paul's best performances, I was quite surprised and disappointed ;(

  • does anybody know the BWV number to this piece?

  • @BrettDaHippie This is BWV 1004, from Violin Partita No. 2 in Dm. You're looking for 'IV Gigue' for this piece.

  • @benj2101 Thank You!

  • @BrettDaHippie According to wikipedia, only Bach Partita in Dm is :

BWV 1004 — Partita No. 2 in D minor for violin

  • superbe !!

  • i swear he makes mistakes in this o.O

  • @MrShNit well noones perfect lol

  • I hate to say it but I don't like that clean tone.

  • whoa whats that i see at 1:00? a geen tortex 0.88 pick? Either its specific for this piece or he doesn't like those unforgiving 0.60s he's been using.

  • @leoseanster i think its for this piece he uses a compressor for this so i could imagine a bigger pick being used to make a lighter sound.

  • @UltimateKyle281 The tortex 0.6mm pick is also the same size as the 0.88. I'm just wondering why he changed to the 0.88s because he used to always favour the orange 0.6s for any piece he is playing.

  • where is he 0_o

  • @pskibobby somewhere in japan??????

  • @TheInvalidChronicles actually i think hes in china the letters look more chinese than japanese

  • @awesomeguyman Hahaa no hes in Japan.

Japanese uses kanji quite often so it can be mixed up with Chinese but its Japanese.

  • Thanks for uploading this!

  • Adorei!!
