As much as I respect Allan's knowledge and the enthusiasm of Chris, this is the 3rd or 4th show in a row where I haven't got to the end of it. This isn't the LAS that I came to love and couldn't wait to watch each week. Bryan going has left a massive hole and it isn't being filled. As I have posted before, just make this tech-snap 2 and ditch the LAS name. It just isn't the same anymore.
Although I'm glad you've continued with LAS even with Bryan doing his own thing I think its becoming too much like TechSNAP 2.0 too technical for me at least...
dear guys, you forgot something really basic. if you want compiz and opengl in virtualbox, you have to *manually* enable 3d acceleration and maybe increase the virtual gpu mem size.. something i usually forget.
and yeah, it doesn't suck without bryan. it's different. but it's good nonetheless. you should get into more technical topics. :)
It's hard to create the same kind of rapport or flow when one person is on Skype. It's better than doing the show over the phone I guess, but it's no real substitute for having two people in studio. People simply behave differently when they are talking in person.
It's not really Alan's fault. He's doing a good job.
@KMSalex No, we need Chris!, And I like Alan too, but more for a techsnap show.. Linux action Show used to be a fun informative and great show.. I can't wait for Bryan to come back to the show, we need him at Linux Action Show!,
It is like you guys read my mind because I was actually planning on vitalizing my windows install because I am tired of booting into it for one thing.
I was just going to ask for an episode about Virtualbox... versus Wmware. The one episode you have about it is WAY old. Let's hope Wmware is mentioned... *watches*
You guys should -really- mention h t t p://code.google.com/p/phpvirtualbox/ when talking about running virtualbox headless. It is absolutely awesome!
Bryan wrote on his web site ... It’s official: I am taking a sabbatical from recording the Linux Action Show. I love the Linux Action Show. But, right now, I need to focus my time on some other areas. (If you pay attention to my various shenanigans, you’ve got a pretty good idea of what I’ll be spending my time on.) There’s only so much one man can do… so I had to make some cuts somewhere.
It doesn't suck without Bryan, it's just different. Just as good IMO. Keep up the good work guys. BTW Bryan is busy with Illumination and webcomics ATM.
@Damnated6mil i know what you mean. As with every change it takes getting used to in the beginning. But i think i like the current style of the show. Bryan brought the comedy element to the show, but the current style of show is more to the point and i feel like they cover i lot more then they used to. Anyway it's still a good show, with or without bryan.
Virtual Machines are useful for try new distros without the risk of mess your HDD, for example, now I'm compiling Gentoo Sources in my VirtualBox, if it takes a lot of time, I just can save the state and resume later !
IMO don't change the season scheme. LAS (at least in its original form) is a fun and upbeat, sunday, linux podcast, diverging from the all too serious rest of podcasts. In that theme, short seasons, even silly seasons make sense. If you want to steer the LAS to a more serious format sure go ahead.. I'll just stop watching ;-)
@MiddleHander He's taking a (probably long) break from the show. It was mentioned a few episodes back, in the forums, on Bryan's blog, and in several other places.
Could you guys do a Linux basics thread, after installing Fedora, I have no idea how to install applications from a tar.gz archive or how to find certain files in the file system.
