"Popcorn" Sutton killed himself rather than go to jail for illegal moonshine production.
Family friend, Ali Randolph, sang her original song about Popcorn at his Memorial Service. She has now posted a video of the song played with her band, The Outta Luck Band.
Includes video of Popcorn's car where he decided to end his life on his terms.

@potatosgomeow this and Metallica's versions are very different: this version is folklore, while Metallica's is rock version. I personally like both version very much
thats good musica my grandparents are from ireland my papaw is from limerick and my granny is of killarny on my dads side on my moms side her folks are both from dublin they always speak of ireland i would like to go there someday
if your a man and if you have ever gone to a tavern/bar/pub, you can always relate to "courting fair maids in the mornin bright and early"! God! I love that line...Happy St. Patrick's Day you creative funny Irish, you!
@bazza667 Actually it's "But Jenny drew me charges", not blew; Jenny took his charges out of his gun and replaced them with water, and when he later went to shoot at captin Farrell he couldn't with water and was taken prisoner.
Lovely version of the song. Alas, I was also looking for the one by the Clancys and Tommy Makem, and couldn't find it. No matter, this one is brilliant. Thank you for sharing.
The Dubliners brought this song to mainstream music in there time then Thin Lizzy made it current for there time and then Metallica made it current for there time i love all three versions there fantastic in there own right each one id love to know how this song first came around
I think Metallica have shown a good song to a younger genaration. Once younger people like the Metallica song they will look for different versions and enjoy them.
Mucha-a ring dum-a do...Musha Dum-a Do dum-a da....Wack fall Da daddy-o,Wack fall Da daddy-o....there is wishkey in My jar....Mush-a ring dum-a do dum-a da....
If you want a faster tempo, try the irish rovers. I really don't like metallica + irish drinking songs. Although they are still pretty good. (Enter sandman ftw)
i imagine the first three lines of the chorus are garbled gaelic, if wikipedia is right in saying the song goes back to the 17th century. it would be good to know what it means, as it;s prolly kind of the punch line.
The story of the song is about a man who held a police officer at gunpoint, and took his money. He then took the money to his wife. that night his wife sent for the police, and she filled up her husband's bullets up with water, and The man who had his money stolen took the other man prisoner. And the man wishes his brother would come break him out of prison.
It's a bastardisation of the phrase "whack fol di daddy oh",which is a form of 'mouth music' which is an Irish form of scat singing, which is using sounds rather than actual words.Scat is popular in jazz using sounds like 'do be ooten doo' etc.Irish Mouth Music uses sounds like 'Diddly aye an dooten' and 'skittly aye dum do'
I know,sounds like a wind up,but I can assure you it's completely gen.

In one verse you put hurling instead of hurley (the irish sport). Great video though, thanks for making it.
Irishbritishcolumbia 6 months ago
@Irishbritishcolumbia Heya, I realise the lyrics posted here may not be 100% correct but the use of the word 'Hurling' is actually correct.
For those of us who don't know, it's the name of a hugely popular Irish sport, very similar to Scottish 'Shinty'.
The word 'Hurley' — used to describe a Hurling stick — is NOT in this version of the song's lyrics.
Hope that helps clear up any misunderstandings about this fantastic version of a cracking song.
