L & L wrote some very beautiful songs but there is a definite creep element to some. between thank heaven for little girls, the street where you live and the intro to this song you've got a portrait of a pedo-stalker.
why didn´t they cast julie andrews in the film version of "my fair lady" (and let "mary poppins" be filmed later, of course ;-)) and let audrey hepburn stay in the role of gigi, also for the movie?! i´m sure audrey is the ONLY TRUE gigi!!!
Hahaha, @Mark121959 and that story with the swans - just what I thought when I saw that swan move in sync with the music just at the start at the real song....wow!!! No CGI back then. so Vincente was perfectly right!!! Just watch at 3:10 !!!:-))) Great story!!! Thank you!
Love Louis singing this song, it´s acting at its finest!!! *melt*
LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!! this is what my boyfriend thought of me for a while... :) (well sorta) we do have 8 years between us. can't wait for him to see this musical because of this particular song!
I'd say about 17 or so--she's blooming a little late, but definitely blooming. I no longer possess my copy of the Colette story (Katrina took it) but I seem to remember she's about that. Interesting to compare this work to MY FAIR LADY---many points or resembelance, but many differences, too.
Many years after this movie was made, Louis Jordan was asked about working with Vincent Minnelli. He talked about the numerous "takes" that Minnelli required for this particular scene. Jordan said he began to feel self-conscious and wondered what he was doing wrong.....Finally, said Jordan, after yet one more attempt at the scene, Minnelli at last yelled "Cut! Print! The SWANS WERE PERFECT!"
I feel like a broken record but this really is my favorite part of this movie too!! I love it so much! My grandmother first showed me this movie when I was quite young and it is one of my faves now at 28. Thank you so much for posting!!
This is realizations he talks to himself and realized he had more fun with her than with all the women he has been with so far and realized he liked her and while he was away she grew up... Watch it. She grows up in more than one way. "Gigi"
The best variation of this song is at the very end when he is pacing by the fountain and he suddenly stops short and lifts up his head up in realization that he must have Gigi! Then the music starts blaring and he turns and slowly walks back. The orchestra goes into this beautiful dynamic romantic version of "Gigi" and then he asks her to marry him! *sighs*
I love the part @ 2:22 when his voice goes all soft and awestruck and he realizes he's in love with her. I wish men really sang of women like this when they fall in love with one of us. :)
One of my favorite scenes from my favorite old movie of all time. The young sassy girl Gigi grows up and gets her handsome prince Louis Jordan. If you haven't seen this movie--rent it right away--great singing, great scenery, lovely romantic story!!!
i love this movie...they played this theme in the movie clueless when cher walks down the stairs and Josh see her in that dress...didn't realize they were working in a gimick
Oh wow, didn't realize that. Very clever (of the Clueless director). All the more reason to love this as well Clueless, which is another one of my favorites.
Sometimes he sounds like a perv! Haha but this is cute! My favorite song!

He is singing, right? If there were no music, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
