if you like Mao Sareth, you should try and find the song "Sombot Krom Khneuy" on the internet. This is an early work by Mao Sareth dating back to 1960 or so (although i'm told its by this unknown quantity "Sao Vaddey" - khmer artists are known to use pseudonyms to re-launch their career ; but i will stand corrected if there's proof to contrary)
i agree with moniequa , mao sareth was much better singer then roserey sothea , mao sareth , pen ron , choun malia , the only reason why rose serey sothea was more famous is becuz in the 70s high pitch voice was in the in thing and rose has more hit in movie sound track and again its becuz the 70s and the 70s we see lots of wierd arty stuff :) i love mao sareth, pen ron , chounmalia voice for their deep almost operatic voice :) .
Ros Serey Sothear launched her career in 1967. She wasn't famous simply because it as a certain era but because she complimented Sinn Sisamouth's voice quite well and he himself acknowledged it. Simply because her high bell like voice complimented his deep voice.
Ros Serey Sothear nearly ended her career due to an unhappy marriage with Sos Mat but it was Samouth who convinced her to continue singing.
I believe each singer had a special talent and weren't any better then each other. I love Mao Sareth for her strong and deep voice. I adore Ros Serey Sothear for her crisp and high pitch voice.

Actually, she had better voice, she had larger range. She didn't have to fake her voice to reach high notes. To say everybody was equally good in singing is like to say everybody is good in Marathon and you know not everybody can sing. I like some of Sereysothear's songs but that doesn't mean she had a great voice. By American standard she would not even make a a bottom 3 that's is just the reality of it. Sorry, the truth hurt.
Well the thing is singers in Cambodia weren't judged by the American standards. They were judged by the Cambodian standard and Sothear made it on top and achieved status as the Golden Voice. Thats the truth too and she was and still is the best. This is not to say she completely blew the others away. Even the great Sinn Sisamouth wasn't much famous then his contemporaries from the National Radio.
Who is better is up to ones opinion so please respect my opinion like I have yours.

I do respect your opinion but it doesn't mean you're right. She didn't have a good voice, by anyone's standards, she could only reach high notes in falsetto and that's not good because anybody can sing in falsetto. Even when I was a child I knew she was not good. Please there are other great singers out there let them shine, and lets the past be gone, especially when the past wasn't that great.
One of my favorite sons, I love her voice! thanks for sharing

I think she was much better than Ros Sereysothea. She could sing at higher keys.
