- I actually attended grade school with Nick Irizarry. He introduced

it to his schoolmates at Butler Elementary in New Jersey in 1975.

The title just came to me one day as "Big Joe and the Angel", and

I used that as the search terms. Such a great movie ! Thanks for

i lived in new york at the time this film was made the part of angel was played by one of the neighborhood kids which i knew back then great to see it again

Can't believe I found this. I saw this in the 4th grade over 25 years ago!. The only parts I remembered was that there was a basketball scene and that he called him "Big Joe from Mexico"

It all started coming back to me as I watched it. Thanks for posting.

All Bert Salzman films have great music. Many times he uses music that is local to the region of his story. Mentoring rocks! Great film!
