Just want to mention that I totally agree with you Nova. Hustling YouTube users in any way—not just with giveaways—for a better spot on the top lists is bad advertising. Just asking for likes without withholding a reward is fine.
Giveaways and other forms of advertisement are okay if they don't require people to subscribe, like and favourite in return. Holding sweepstakes on a separate forum for instance. The core issue is that they are gaming YouTube for more publicity in a malicious manner.
i think if some one is going to do a give away it shouldnt be in the tittle or ask for comments so its a suprise for your viewers since the point in a give away is to give something back to your loyal viewers

I've read a comment from the videos, and it makes sense. I think James is 100 % right. Having giveaways is like buying subs and other channels that can't afford to do so are left in the dust. But if you want to reward your subs, don't even mention the giveaway in the title or anyway to see it externally. nova i totally agree with you how people shouldn't really do giveaways because others don't have the extra edge i am also trying to get up there on YouTube with only my content but i do have a question lets say there is no word about give away written anywhere they just randomly say somewhere in the video for 10 sec. about a giveaway that they will do and not necessarily in the first video or all the time do you think they should keep doing that because people would be there for content.
This issue is a very big one and i do see that its a good thing to do a giveaway to give back to your subscribers but to ask for likes, favourites and comments to take part in the giveaway is just cheating the system and this is why i love nova's vids so much because he doesnt do that shit. wow great vid. loved the entire debate. i came here because of nova and have been subbed to nova for a while now, yet ghost put up an argument i can respect. overall though i think nova had the more valid point. as a solution ghost should stop giveaways for a while, maybe make a fake vid or not about him being done with giveaways, and then see if any or how many people unsub to him or how greatly his views and favorites decrease. giveaways should be there as thank you not as a promotion.

I sat and listened to each video and you made some valid points. It sucks to know smaller channels who actually put a lot of hard work into their videos are overshadowed by the giveaway channels. The sad thing is it probably won't stop because simply there's ALWAYS going to be those people who try to take shortcuts or abuse some exploits to get ahead or look better or what have you...Sadly it's the way life is nowadays. The point I think Nova was trying to get across is the point that Robo refused to acknowledge: The victims. If you're knocking guys with legitimately good content off of the top favourited/liked spot just because you're giving away free shit, it's wrong. They're hurting for views either because they can't afford to buy an extra copy or two of a game OR because they decided they wanted to grow their channel based on the quality of their content. Either way, it's not fair.

Well I just got done with watching the vids and I gotta say nova u started out a little behind in the argument but u kept on backing Ur info with lots of examples and had a really good argument at the end. Love ir vids nova and I seriously can't wait for more mega tree house vids. THEY R AWSOME.
Also, one more thing to bring up... if people really want to just use giveaways as a way to reward their loyal viewers, they would put the info for the giveaway at the end of one of their videos, and NOT mention it in the title or tags. That way, only the people who watch would have a chance to win.
And then have people enter through a third party website, like FreddieW did with his latest "fly out and hang with us" contest. His giveaways have always been the best, I think.

Well I think the bigger youtuber that aren't doing gaming like sxephil that do the giveaways, they go there for the content not the giveaways. I personally skip the part of the video with the giveaways.
I don't think Robo is giving away games just to get more subs, likes, and faves, although that is a byproduct. It seems that he is just trying to reward the people who are subscribed to him, and thanking them for their subs. I understand there are some people who can't do that, but he isn't trying to step on them. If a smaller channel is good, they can grow regardless, just by word of mouth. And besides, SSoH used to give away stuff. He hasn't in a while, but it was just as a reward too.

Nova, I've thought a lot about this, and I've come to the conclusion that I agree w/ you 100%. Giveaways are a good way for people to give back to their subs if they can afford it, and as long as they don't exploit the fact that it's a giveaway, it's perfectly fine. As someone who's trying to figure out how to start up videos but is having to save up $ in order to buy equipment to make good content, it sucks that the ppl w/ money to spare rely on THAT to draw ppl in rather than content quality.

nova i totally agree with you how people shouldn't really do giveaways because others don't have the extra edge i am also trying to get up there on YouTube with only my content but i do have a question lets say there is no word about give away written anywhere they just randomly say somewhere in the video for 10 sec. about a giveaway that they will do and not necessarily in the first video or all the time do you think they should keep doing that because people would be there for content.

This issue is a very big one and i do see that its a good thing to do a giveaway to give back to your subscribers but to ask for likes, favourites and comments to take part in the giveaway is just cheating the system and this is why i love nova's vids so much because he doesnt do that shit. He put in the hard work and dedication to get to where he is now LEGIT and his reward to us subscribers is giving us amazing content which we love a lot more than peoples who do giveaways

wow great vid. loved the entire debate. i came here because of nova and have been subbed to nova for a while now, yet ghost put up an argument i can respect. overall though i think nova had the more valid point. as a solution ghost should stop giveaways for a while, maybe make a fake vid or not about him being done with giveaways, and then see if any or how many people unsub to him or how greatly his views and favorites decrease. giveaways should be there as thank you not as a promotion.

I sat and listened to each video and you made some valid points. It sucks to know smaller channels who actually put a lot of hard work into their videos are overshadowed by the giveaway channels. The sad thing is it probably won't stop because simply there's ALWAYS going to be those people who try to take shortcuts or abuse some exploits to get ahead or look better or what have you...Sadly it's the way life is nowadays. More people need to get up and speak out more often about it...

I don't think people should do giveaways they should do like have a special at like 500 1k 10k 50k 100k and so on but not make it a vid just do it randomly so its not a vid that can get liked fav or subbed its just something to meet your subs and talk too them about gaming life or content of what they want to see on the channel or talk about what they don't like or want more of like I loved Minecraft that's what got me subbed to Nova and the other creatures and Jx23

Regardless of the position of who I like, no matter what you can't justify Giveaways being good. I Dont get people doing giveaways, loads of people like, comment and fave just for a small tiny chance they might win something. People could easily just get jealous of the fact they didnt win and troll the vids and false flag it down, doesnt seem worth it for a favourite and/or a sub :/

The point I think Nova was trying to get across is the point that Robo refused to acknowledge: The victims. If you're knocking guys with legitimately good content off of the top favourited/liked spot just because you're giving away free shit, it's wrong. They're hurting for views either because they can't afford to buy an extra copy or two of a game OR because they decided they wanted to grow their channel based on the quality of their content. Either way, it's not fair.

Also, one more thing to bring up... if people really want to just use giveaways as a way to reward their loyal viewers, they would put the info for the giveaway at the end of one of their videos, and NOT mention it in the title or tags. That way, only the people who watch would have a chance to win.
And then have people enter through a third party website, like FreddieW did with his latest "fly out and hang with us" contest. His giveaways have always been the best, I think.

I don't think Robo is giving away games just to get more subs, likes, and faves, although that is a byproduct. It seems that he is just trying to reward the people who are subscribed to him, and thanking them for their subs. I understand there are some people who can't do that, but he isn't trying to step on them. If a smaller channel is good, they can grow regardless, just by word of mouth. And besides, SSoH used to give away stuff. He hasn't in a while, but it was just as a reward too.

Nova, I've thought a lot about this, and I've come to the conclusion that I agree w/ you 100%. Giveaways are a good way for people to give back to their subs if they can afford it, and as long as they don't exploit the fact that it's a giveaway, it's perfectly fine. As someone who's trying to figure out how to start up videos but is having to save up $ in order to buy equipment to make good content, it sucks that the ppl w/ money to spare rely on THAT to draw ppl in rather than content quality.

I watched all three of them n I agree wit u 2 many ppl gets subs 4 giveaways I used 2 have a channel but I stop because ppl will have 1 vid on the channel which would be a give away n my usual 5k views turned into 1k then 500 then bout 200 ppl left which wer my loyal subs n they always liked without annotations but I got tired of losin them so I stoped I hope 2 start again sometime
