@erniesbudolab I also lived on Treasure Island as a kid during the late 80's. I visited my old house Nov 2010. Very depressing indeed. So many memories.
thanks for this very touching video.. i too grew up as a kid from 1970-79 grew up on 1204-f Mariner Dr. i remember flying my kite at the elementary school... riding my bike to get pizza at the navy exchange. so sad seeing that some of the places were radioactive.
Ernie, thank you very much for the wonderful video you shot of Naval Station Tresure Islang. I was stationed there from 1992 to 1994 in the Post Office. I remember all the housing there and the Navy exchange like it was yesterday (fond memories). I think the most shocking thing is the that the guard booth is a coffee shop now. Still is was nice to see the Island again. Thanks a bunches
I used to live at 1253-A Exposition Dr between 1990-1994. I went to T.I. Elementary for 5th grade before going to Everett. Funny how some things never change. Even knowing the base was selected for closure, they still spent money re-siding all the housing units, lol. I remember they had just resurfaced the playground, and it was so nice rollerskating there. Lots of kids played in the schoolyard even during summer and weekends. I remember busing into SF and seeing just a white wall of fog.
Excellent Video Ernie! Thank you for sharing! I lived at 1317-E Gateview Avenue, This brings back so many positive memories and wonderfully narrated. KUDOS. I remember your family and I remember Debbie Green used to live in the same units as where you lived. She was my very first kiss ever as a boy. LOL.
@shawnwrigley It seems the whole island is a depressing disaster. There's patches of attempted rehabilitation, but the restoration effort needs a lot more funding.
@erniesbudolab I agree. While the memories of the base are nice, to see it now makes me feel incredibly sad seeing the radioactive signs and garbage strewn around one of my childhood homes.
Awesome video. I attended T.I Elementary from K thru 3rd Grade. Such wonderful memories, really wish they took better care of the place.
