  • Wow terrible call

  • no control

  • no goal awarded, didnt have control of puck

  • Does it really matter? Down by two goals, only a 1:30 left, and 4 on 5. Your comparing the disadvantage of a team having to score 2 short handed goals in 1.5 min versus a team scoring 3 even strength goals in 1.5 min. There's literally almost no strategic advantage to taking the goal. BTW wasn't this the same series where Pittsburgh had too many men on the ice with the entire arena screaming too many men for over a minute?

  • good call.

  • this is such a fuckin load of shit, kunitz had more than enough time to put that fuckin puck in the net before he was hooked, not my fault he sucks of shit!!

  • correct call not a breakaway so there is no gaol awarded

  • @dflemingeast uh, that was a breakaway... do you know what a breakaway is?

it is the correct call, since kunitz clearly embellished the hook, and more than enough opportunity to tap it home, but chose not to

  • @hockeymatt1994 ur a jack ass i was agreeing with the call

  • @dflemingeast thank you. the second part wasnt necessarily to negate you, just correcting

You are correct about the call, but not the reason. He was on a breakaway, but the hook did not make him lose control, therefore no goal.

Not trying to be a jerk

  • @hockeymatt1994 how did the hook not make him lose control of the puck? he had to take the shot with 1 hand on his stick because of the hook?

  • Yeah the only reason he did not have control was because of the hook..0:54..the correct call here would be to award the goal.

  • No control, right call.

  • Great call by McCreary. No control, no goal. Easy call.

  • goal

  • instead of being a retard and embelishing that he was hooked.. he coulda just kept both hands on the stick and scored

  • Shoulda been awarded a goal, wtf is the ref blind? That was a clear cut breakaway.

  • what a joke. there was no need to sell that. why not just keep your hands on the stick and take the shot? he wasn't off-balance and the stick wasn't anywhere near his arm. the penalty itself is borderline at best, but still: why even try to sell it? you're in the clear, empty net, just take the shot. what an ass.

  • i think kunitz just cant score on an empty net, pathetic excuse for an NHL player.

  • YOU SUCK PENGUINS!!

  • yes the penguins obviously suck, thats why crosby malkin guern staal and the rest of the team hoisted the cup IN DETROIT, and zetterberg left the arena crying... yeah the pens suck you got it

  • And don't forget about the classless detroit fans booing during the Ceremony.

  • @Kartkid024 LOLOLOLOLOL they were booing Bettman, you fucking moron. Besides, Pittsburgh did the same fucking thing two years ago. Short memory span huh?

  • Ahh, they are booing him. Right, thats why they kept going after he left. They where crying cause they lost what they where sure they would win. Redwings have a problem with blaming bettman for there lose. And I don't care if Pittsburgh did it too. They are just as classless.

  • @jimih64 Selective memory span

  • @Kartkid024

Wow classless Detroit fans, huh? How very ignorant of you. They were booing Bettman like every fanbase does after he presents the Cup to the winning team. If you can't see that, watch the video again. If you still want to convince yourself they were booing Sidney Crosby and the Penguins, you're just a dumbass. I'm not calling you a dumbass for the sake of blasting a Red Wing hater, but rather stating a fact.

Just a question but what team are you a fan of?...just curious.

  • I really don't give a shit who they are booing at. Doesn't make it right. Why are they booing at bettman, cause he lost you the cup. Ha no you lost the cup yourself. You had more class booing pittsburg. Atleast that makes more since. I love listening to Detroit fans thinking that the NHL is against them and how they fight the refs to make it to the stanley cup. I hate to tell you, but if the NHL didn't want you to win, you wouldn't win, you wouldn't even be in the playoffs.

  • You really have no idea do you? Literally every stadium boos Bettman when he presents the Cup including the times when the home team lifts the trophy at the end of the day. It has nothing to do with thinking he had a personal vendetta against the team that lost. He's booed because he's the worst commissioner in sports and the history of the NHL.

And just to let you know, it's not about the NHL wanting the Wings to lose. It's about the NHL wanting Crosby to win. That's the concept.

  • I've never heard any other team boo other than the wings. Detroit has this love for the excuse that the NHL is screwing them. Its so funny, its all I ever hear when a call is against them, that they expected it because the NHL screwed them, but when they get a call for them they think they deserve it. Thinking they never get a bad call there way. Example, Chicago vs Detroit last weekend, they had the benefit of the refs that helped them win that game, yet they still think they are bing screwed

  • Did you just start watching hockey last year or do you just have a short memory? Watch any presentation of the Cup in the last 15 years. Every stadium boos him and it's generally worse when it's the stadium of the team on the losing end (people are put in bad moods when their teams lose championships believe it or not). And please, have you seen the calls that have gone against Detroit this year? Every bad call that has gone against the Wings this year has been blatantly horrible.

  • arena*

  • The hate him for a different reason, not because he is destroying the sport not because he is screwing them, only the fact that he is trying to americanize the sport. As far as the last 15 years, no they don't. And the calls against detroit have been blatantly horrible for you guys just like they have for us. I'm not going to say your getting screwed, but its not a conspericy the refs just plain suck and its for everyone. Not just you guys.

  • Watch him present the Cup in Tampa, Jersey, Dallas, Colorado, Anaheim, etc...they all boo him. You're deaf if you say otherwise.

  • But it has to be some excuse from Detroit why they didn't win, (It was the refs, it was the NHL screwing us, We never get calls our way, we have to many injuries, or my all time favorite, it was Hossa's fault.) When will the excuses end.

Also for the worst Chairman ever, he sure brought in a lot of crowds and putting the popularity of the sport to an all time high.

  • So really do you guys think Bettman goes to his refs and says, "Hey help the pens win the cup and screw detroit over I really hate that team". Not only that but do you think he says that and it doesn't get out. Sorry, what you will learn if you talk to some of the coaches, if something happens in the Organization, everyone finds out about it. Word travels.

  • Simple answer to that is no.

  • Exactly he doesn't do that. But Detroit thinks he does.

  • No, we don't. Thank you for exemplifying ignorance by twisting every comment any Red Wing fan makes in reference to last year's Final or the entirety of this season into every Red Wing fan being the virtual equivalent of those who form conspiracy theories for no reason...other than bitterness. That interpretation is just bad.

  • "Also for the worst Chairman ever, he sure brought in a lot of crowds and putting the popularity of the sport to an all time high." - lol did you make that up? Bettman became commissioner of the NHL in 1993. Since then he's taken teams away from Canada and northern US states and expanded south where there is clearly no interest in hockey. Television ratings for the NHL have almost been cut in half since he's been commissioner, not to mention two lockouts have occurred. Yeah, he's the worst.

  • TV ratings have increased according to the net. And the lockouts occured of the salary cap and some other stuff, he set an example that he is not going to let players run the show and get paid what ever, because of it the average joe can afford tickets and in these hard times every team can easily survive and the NHL is actually bring in money. So he is spreading the sport around, it is becoming more and more popular in some of the southern states, not all but some, isn't that the goal.

  • Spreading the NHL to southern states was in no way a good idea. No one in Florida really cares about hockey in general and you can basically say the same for Georgia, Tennessee, and North Carolina. I don't understand why he would take teams from a sport popularized in Canada and the northern states and relocate them to places where people would rather watch bass fishing.

Television ratings have suffered greatly since he's been commissioner...the last two years has just seen a slight increase.

  • Well, it hasn't worked every where, but it has worked from place to place, and I think its a great idea to try to spread the sport around. In increase your market. Then take it out of those places that arn't selling. I mean Dallas wasn't good at first but over the years has become more and more popular. So his ideas arn't great, but as far as the market and the TV ratings go, I think he has done great there.

  • Where was Zetterberg crying?

I obviously remember in 2008 from when Detroit won and CBC caught Sidney with tears in his eyes and sucking his lower lip...

  • they do blow, everyone hates them except people from Pittsburgh, they also hate the ducks.

  • this is something that only Wings fans would say..

  • and furthermore, the pens suck so bad that they're 2nd in the conference, have a captain who is tied for most goals in the NHL, while the amazing red wings have the hardest seed to get in the NHL...The last fucking seed. whatever.

    go pens

  • Comment removed

  • @masantospitt And who did the Pens fucking lose to on Monday Night? That's right, that same team that is fighting for the last seed.

You can kiss my ass and eat shit, you fucking bandwagon fan.

  • Yeah, Pens suck because they lost to the team that beat the President's trophy winners and the most offensive line in the NHL, as well as the team with the highest playoff goal scorer and the goalie that happened to have the league leading save percentage in the playoffs. How about the Wings who barely made it through the first round needing a game 7 on the road to do so, only to be crushed by the Sharks. I bet that 1 grand win in 5 games against the NHL's biggest playoff chokers felt good.

  • @razorslice17 For Jimmy Howard's first year in the playoffs, I can't say I'm disappointed in him.

And let's not overlook Pittsburgh's bullshit first round win. They beat an Ottawa team without Michalek or Kovalev, and it still fucking took them 6 games.

It's still pretty sad how the Pittsburgh Crosby's couldn't beat the Canadiens, who got butt fucked by Philadelphia.

  • Are you kidding? Howard choked, and his plaing is what cost the Red Wings their chances. He was letting in 4 goals a game, hard to beat anyone with those numbers. That game tying score by Couture, what a goal!

  • Clear breakaway, should have been a goal. Not like it matters though, had no outcome on the game.

  • No Goal The Game Was Already Decided

  • i think he had control as he was hooked...If the ref had called a penalty shot with the goalie pulled would it be a penalty shot on an empty net? Oh and Spashaei, " if he was any good he would have it" if he wasnt any good would he be in game 4 stanley cup finals playing for the winning team?

  • The player doesn't take the penalty shot on an empty net. The goal is automatically awarded if the referee feels the player was clearly hooked.

  • it would've been called a goal, not a penalty shot on an empty net

  • @unplanedlayer no they just give him a goal

  • How much more control do you need? He played it to open space for himself perfectly. His next stick contact with the puck was thwarted when he was hooked. What in the hell does he have to do? Maybe glue the puck to his tape so that it's touching when he's hooked. He had so much damned control of the puck that he still got a shot off with one hand after being hooked. That's kind of a lot of control.

  • the puck wasn't fully settled, and was on its side. nobody can have control of a puck when it's on it's side.

  • How the hell did he miss that one? ;O Wasn't a big hook at all.

  • no goal! if he was any good he would have that in...hooking or no hooking

  • no goal good call

  • Josh, go light yourself on fire, or jump in front of a truck, or when you get pulled over for a ticket just reach for your inside pocket really really fast.

Did anyone notice how Bettman set it up so the WIngs can get 2 PP's in a row so Staal can score the shorty?

  • good call, he clearly never had control over the puck

  • 1st comment >>>thats bullshit
