I usually don't like Anime(Not listing reasons as to not offend) But this actually looks pretty well done and does not seem to be try-hard over dramatic or really, "Immature" (for lack of better words) like most do. Does this go over a Japenese soldier during Firebombing of Tokyo? Or bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki?
@ajaksbackpac I used to think it was Hiroshima, just because of the way the city is drawn, but it might be a firebombing on a suburb of Tokyo because of the bombs that fell...miserable stuff either way.

This is my favorite anime movie of Hayao Miyazaki's. It is extremely touching by showing kids' innocence and the society's cruelty and uncareness.

@Xutopia19 Although it is Miyazaki's studio Ghibli, this anime was written and directed by co-founder, Isao Takahata. Same style though
