  • End of Evangelion was better because it actually completed the plot, which was interesting enough on its own. Although I felt this was more convincing than the majority of Shinji's sequences in EoE

  • Is there something wrong with me if I actually enjoyed the existential crisis part in EVA?

  • iwant/v/toleave.iso

  • This ending wasn't so bad guys... guys? I'm serious /v/

  • MassEffect3endings.avi

  • A great end to the series. End of Evangelion is flashier, but I'm a fan of those last episodes.

  • Er, not*.

  • @ChicagoMonsterPunk That's nor being an otaku; that's being comically critical.

  • you da man shinji!

  • Dem manly tears...

  • I died a little when I saw this

  • @EagleSeven how they congratulate the childre-- WHY WOULD THEY CONGRATULATE THE CHILDREN? WHAT CHILDREN? WHAT KIND OF PARENTS WOULD ALLOW THEIR CHILDREN TO WATCH THIS ANGST RIDDEN ANIME?

Overall, GREAT anime, shitty-ass ending, NOT entirely the fault of Studio Gainax.

  • @seg162

    Otakus are manchildren.

  • 축하해 신지

  • Considering this was the director venting after recovering from crippling depression, Shinji's epiphany here that he's who he wants to be and the people congratulating him could easily be how he feels.

  • Kiitos, isäni.

    Hyvästi, äitini.

    Ja kaikille lapsille...

    Onneksi olkoon!

  • CONGRATULATIONS, YOU ARE THE 1,000,000th PERSON TO REJECT INSTRUMENTALITY! CLICK NOW TO GET YOUR PRIZE

  • *POP*

    Congratulations! You won!

  • Песня называется : Congratulation! In the end you completely lost your mind.

  • I can imagine all of the rage faces from all the fans...

It is to my liking. =w=

  • Some people say this ending shows that everybody can break free of Instrumentality if they want to/have the will to do so. But really, Shinji was at the heart of it all. He is the new god. He is the product of Adam and Lilith. He is the true form of Lilim. And his first act as god is to choke a dead/comatose girl.

  • Congratulations!

  • IS THIS HOW YOU END A SERIES.

  • @ZecharaiCloud nah, this is how you traumatize an entire generation of anime fans and force them to buy your movie

  • I was waiting for them to say "want a fucking cookie?"

  • This ending said screw a ending with a epic fight and screw the plot where there are angels about to take over the world. Lets just delve into the mind of this whiny bitch and end the series without solving squat. Good thing there are the remakes >< where shinji actually becomes a man and the ending is not completely retarded and understandable

  • Shinji finally accepted himself as a whiny bitch, CONGRATULATIONS

  • The movie better sure as hell make up for this, 'cause I'm stuck in nowhere land!

You ran outta ink, too, didn't you, ya bastards.

  • @sCEPTILEISAWESOME -Spike Spencer

  • I like the use of ... for Pen Pen, there's not any other reaction for FUCKING PENPEN congratulating.

  • Actually, they're congratulating YOU, the viewer, for surviving the past 56-60 minutes of existentialist angst. As your prize, you can go and watch End of Evangelion.

  • @hotelmario510 So I can go watch Shinji fap to a comatose Asuka. What a prize.

  • @SashaNein You also get to watch Hyuga and Misato getting it on. You know, until he explodes into orange and goo.

Yeah, it's not a good prize.

  • @hotelmario510 That movie... is a trauma.

  • @WilipichinXP An awesome trauma.

  • @hotelmario510 I could have done that on episode 24, seeing as the last two episodes of the series could only turn the angst levels up to twelve.

  • @seg162 Indeed.

  • @hotelmario510 That's a PRIZE?!?!?!

  • @pkmnfreak75 Yes, now go before I shoot you in the face.

  • @hotelmario510 or they're telling shinji "congratulations! you managed to overcome your crippling depression without any outside help whatsoever, which is basically impossible in real life! all hail shinji, worker of fucking miracles!!! oh, and you sort of ended the world to get this little group therapy session, but that's not important. congratulations!!!!! :D"

  • @hotelmario510 Yeah go watch end of evangelion and get completely mind fucked. XD

  • @Sg1Elim89 It's one of my favourite films of all time.

  • thanks to this anime, my brain turned to orange goo and I ended up questioning my reality for an entire year before wandering out of the darkness.

    goddamn it gainax

  • amazing end

  • I'm not sure what is going on here...

  • @EagleSeven YES! I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO LOVED IT!

  • @EagleSeven Evangelion ANIMA, on the other hand, is.

  • love the tentacle, Shinji...

  • Shinji rejected instrumentality thus "Congratulations"

  • gainax: LOL RAN OUT OF BUDGET LOL

  • I feel sick.

  • I think i want to kill myself now.

  • LOL END

  • I wish everyone congratulated me when I overcame my existential crisis.

  • @NinjaJedi Me too.

  • i really have to say, this ending left a sour taste in my mouth...only thing that was redeeming was the backround music

  • Folks, this ending is what would have happened if he had chosen Instrumentality- everyone being in a connected consciousness. The movie ending shows what would have happened if he had not.

  • @Audubann The movie and tv series endings happen at the same time. The tv series ending is just more instrumentality scenes during the movie. Shinji rejects instrumentality here as well and causes the movie ending.

  • @Audubann : No. You got the wrong idea. Shinji saying he chooses to live in this world, and that his life can have greater value means he rejects instrumentality. That was the message as a whole in NGE. To not run away from reality. Hence, everyone congratulating him on makking progress in finally being able to confront the real world. Listen, and read the dialog more carefully. It's so obvious that he rejects it.

  • Can I just say this ending makes more sense to me than the one in End and overall seems a lot less depressing?

  • @PSIground I'd agree. Realizing it's worth it to live and to take agency in the world is pretty awesome.

  • @PSIground : It's not that depressing when you know that eventually more humans will come back from instrumentality much like how Asuka, and Shinji did.

  • A WINNER IS YOU :D

  • I found myself identifying with Shinji, and found this ending greatly uplifting.

Is it wrong to shed a tear to this?

  • @ablankman no, Its perfectly understandable

  • RAN OUTTA INK TOO, DIDN'T YOU, YA BASTARD!

  • @Louhila

"What the majority thinks is the truth?" Are you serious? The majority's been wrong before. You need a better grounding in history.

Also, the idea that someone can only be stupid and worthless is beyond cynical and just plain mean-spirited. People can change. People can improve themselves.

Life does not conform to name-calling on your part. Calling someone "stupid and worthless" is behavior I would expect from a teenager, not from an adult.

  • This is ending is sorta necessary so you don't be completely mind-raped. The movie ending killed my brain.

  • OMEDETO!

  • the part where everyone is at school is how he would like his life to be: family at home, friends, peace, ... But, he notices that that world isn't the real one. It's his imagination and what he desires. In the end, he figures out his reason to be and because of that is able to get out of his depression. He was in a depression since his dad left him until this episode. When he gets rid of the depression and finds happiness, everyone congratulate him and show love.

  • @EagleSeven Well there are other robot anime that dealt with such weighty issues before... not crouched in as much symbolism as Eva perhaps... but there's at least 3 or 4 out there that predate Eva and and tackled similar themes. Still Eva is great.

  • CONGRATUATION FAGGOT

  • PenPen: ...

  • We are Neon Genesis Evangelion and we congratulate you into confusion and death!!!!!!

  • The part where everyone is at school is how he would like his life to be: family at home, friends, peace, ... But, he notices that that world isn't the real one. • This makes me cry every time.

  • Damon Lindelof is a fan

  • Where is Kaworu? ^_^U

  • Thank God he got moar ink, cause this ending fucking sucked.

  • so is ep 25 and 26 parallel to the eoe cuz to me it seems that when he can accept himself in ep 26, in the movie he rematerializes OMG im so confused lol :)

  • Lets just admit at the point when they made this, the budget was completely gone for a real ending.

  • @EagleSeven Yes, I know that it's not Gundam, but this is just weird. I'm fine with the End Of Eva ending though, I actually think it's kind of happy. Well, for everyone but Shinji.

  • おめでと :)

  • this would be more messed up if Lorenz was there

    ps, where's Kaworu?

  • Wait, if Kaworu isn't there, why the hell is Rei there?!?!?

  • 0:47 ftw. =)

  • In which "Congratulations" looses all meaning.

  • It's called "Good, or Don't Be"

  • worst...ending...ever (this is my favorite anime ever, and i still hate this ending. thank the lord end of evangelion was made)

  • Fucking Shinji.

  • Wouldn't it have been hilarious if Gendo said "Shinji, you failed at you life" and Asuka "You sick pervert, go masturbate elsewhere!!!"?

  • i dont care what anyone says I like this way better than end of evangelion it was a great ending to one the the all time greatest animes ever

  • Ooooooh I never understood this ending but it ALL makes sense now! Thank you all the ppl that commented on this!

  • best ending

  • Congratulations!

  • big blue ball.

  • lol shinjis rant

  • This takes place during end of evangellion, I think it happens right before Rei and Shinji are on the boat, I don't know. Defnintly takes place before shinji wakes up on the shore with Asuka.

  • Nice boat?

  • to haseoskeieth lol I know your comment is over 2 months old but I'm sorry i'm gonna correct you anyway...This is from the end of episode 26 of Neon Genesis Evangelion not The End of Evangelion...

  • the n64 version has a better ending lol

  • wait is this the ending of a show or the movie ?

  • this is the ending of evangelion where he accepts human instrumentality and yeah the show but not the movie

  • ...always did think of this as a happy ending...kinda like rahxephon's though the latter's ending aftermath showed it in a more definite possitive conclusion.

  • dude kanji said congrats hella fast

  • Now see, Japanese or English, I thought this ending was tranquil. Made me tear up a bit.

BUT, I'd still call this the Bad Ending. The End of Evangelion, well, that's the Worse Ending (not in quality, but in what happened O.o)

  • that ending sucked

  • seriously, its like, well shinji, you destroyed the planet and killed everyone, but congratulations, your in the right state of mind now!!!

    lol

  • @vader329 was that what happened? I stopped trying to understand about the time Rei turned into a giant white thing.

  • Perhaps the greatest anime series ending ever made. Such originality and emotion.

  • This ending is better with english voices, no french, no japanese or others but only with english voices. Congratulations!

  • japanese is very kool too

  • i prefer the japanese

  • Comment removed

  • No, they are simply more persuaded by Gendo fucking Shinji.

  • I can't believe the creator got death threats for this, if an American show ended like this it would be considered a masterpiece.

  • actually it was for the first movie Death and Rebirth that get got the death threats.

  • also EoE i think :P

  • Best. Ending. Ever.

  • XD it always makes me laugh to see the japanese dub with the english lip synch.

  • omedetou
