"more than you ever need" yeah... um if i remembered correctly u chose 1 gb... that really isn't much at all lol aftere my christmas upgrades, i have 16GB DDR3 at 160Mhz, cause RAM is just so cheap now lol
01:12 I have to disagree there. A common misconseption with computers is that RAM directly affects performance. This is not true. Only high end video editors and similar programs use anything over 8GB. Going any higher will not increase performance at all, you're just wasting money. Better to get a better CPU or a decent heatsink, rather than waste it on something you don't use.
If you are looking for a gaming or causal build, then 8GB is maximum you need. Even battlefield 3 only uses 4GB RAM.
@MultiGoban Well, how often will most people blow up huge amounts of TNT in minecraft? Even in 32 gigs, it'll crash if you don't have a good CPU.
Going from 2x4gb to 8x4gb costs an additional $120, which really isn't worth it. I was just disagreeing to how he says that getting more ram is better. You'll see a difference going from 1gb to 2gb. Perhaps at bit from going to 2gb to 4gb. Anything more won't make much difference, unless you are using high end editing programs.
@supriseitsme1 get a better cpu, amd fx4100 bulldozer, is around 100 pound (not to sure what that is in dollars or euros) and is a pretty powerful cpu. You would need a motherboard that am3 or am3+ socket though
it deos not mater how much ram you have! You can have 167 gb of low power ddr3 and 4 gb of high power and the 4gb of higher power ddr3 will be much better
wait wait wait. so if i get 3 gigs of ddr ram that is the same as having 1 gig of ddr3 ram? cuz i heard my pc can only make use of 3-4gigs but are you saying 4gigs of ddr3 is the same as 12gigs of ddr?
lol now there is DDR5 RAM for video cards and DDR3 is the main use for normal RAM... 2 years and the video is starting to get outdated but the info is still relevant so thanks
I brought some RAM which should have fit (off ebay). But on closer inspection it says 1Rx4 on it which apparently means it's high density and won't work in 99% of desktops! So I got screwed. Didn't know anything about High and low density before hand. Hopefully this is still relevant, I'm not that up to date with PC tech.
This might be mentioned already but: The amount of RAM is also limited by the processor. A 32-bit processor will not be able to access RAM larger than 4.0 GiB (2^32 B = 4 294 967 296 B = 4.0 GiB). A 64-bit processor however, can access 2^64 B = 18 446 744 073 709 551 616 B (about 18 and a half quintillion bytes, that's 18 million million million bytes) or 16.0 EiB (exbibyte). Amazing difference. ;)
@FedorMP96 You have to make sure the motherboard is compatible with the memory. So if your motherboard is DDR2 Compatible, you cant go and put DDR3 Memory in to it.

@gmanrulz27093 sorry, one thing, clarification on what you meant by "odd ram". i'm aware that you can't interchange ddr types, and was also told that it's best to use the same brand of ram, but i've had, for example, a 2gb ddr2 kingston chip alongside a 1gb ddr2 kingston chip and had no problems with that. this is the first time i've heard that there's possible problems with that with certain mobos.

Dallishar, it really depends on what OS your running your games on and what games your actually playing. If you running XP 3gigs is the most RAM that your applications will be able to use, even if you have 6 installed on your mobo. If you are running Win7 or Vista, by all means go for 6+ gigs of RAM. The GPU and CPU is really where the magic happens, RAM doesn't effect game performance as much as you'd think. :D Though if your building a gaming PC why skimp on any of your components?
6 gigs is pointless unless you have an LGA 1366 for tri channeling. Going with 4 gigs is more than enough for the next few years. Crysis doesn't even take 1 gig of my RAM.
@ lawlgasmwaffles: I'm just saying, if you want to be excessive, go for it. Mobo's and Win7 support more than 6 now a days, but yes you are correct, almost nothing is going to REALLY use all 6 gigs unless you are a SERIOUS multi tasker. Cheers mate, keep it positive!
3gb isnt really optimal for systems becuase on most systems (other then i7) it would mean you would lose the dual channel benift. Always go for 2gb or 4 gb kits
This video is wierd... When i fullscreen it, the bottom of the video is elongated and blurred...

Everyone please note that this guide is 18 months old and I think DDR3 is the best choice today.

@lawlgasmwaffles lol it does with me? ;P

@manjii2go Are you using DDR2 or DDR3? Takes around half a gig of DDR3 for me. It's very GPU heavy though so all the strain is going to my GPU.

@lawlgasmwaffles Yehh lol i use ddr2 :P
I am uber poor :D

robert i would get another 1g for gaming and hashirama yes its necessary

ram doesn't effect gaming much. I would say 3gb is more then efficient for gaming. RAM doesn't make much difference with gaming - I use 2gb.

ram effects gaming to a certain level, its not top priority but its there,
Dallishar 2 years ago
3gb isnt really optimal for systems becuase on most systems (other then i7) it would mean you would lose the dual channel benift. Always go for 2gb or 4 gb kits
theuglysduckling 1 year ago
@Dallishar you really don't need 4gb unless you are running a x64 operating system. 3gb is absolutely fine as long as its decent.
