<3 I remember listening to a tape of this in our old 75 Dodge pick up in Tucumcari, NM. :) Great way to grow up. Even in the 90's this was still a cool song. It still is today.
@vncnzo bon jovi - blood money! top song!! then try after it 'santa fe' by bon jovi also! more uplifting but words are really brilliant!! both are cowboy songs! but 'blood money' is similar type of song to this!
A magificent troubadour, he is one of the few who sing cowboy music. Listen to his music and you could get a college degree in American Western History. Saw him just once in a live show. He just is good as they get.
A true cowboy poet. Don's music takes me back to my childhood. Let this be a tribute to the cowbows that are now gone from us. Grandad, Curt Strickland, and Tom Hall, thankyou for the best times of my life out trailing cows on the high deserts in Idaho and Northern Nevada.
My Paw paw was full blown indian I GREW UP SUMMERS IN Texas in the middle of cotton fieids going 2 beer joints AND eating briskits God U r a breath of fresh air!!!!!!!!!!!!

ACAVIDEO, you speak truth my friend. But, not all the ranchers are greedy, land raping, profits at all costs cretins.....just most of them. There are a few who truly care and are stewards of the land. They manage their cattle well and protect the streams and rivers that cross their land. Unfortunately most dont give a damn, they just run rough shod over the land and streams, leaving a mess in their wake.
@acavideo I think it may be less the cowboy/cattle culture and more the population explosion that caused all the things to be "gone". People have to eat and it takes alot of land to grow crops and cattle to feed alot of people. Not wanting a debate, just 2 cents worth from a proud rancher who by theory may be part of the problem and would still give almost anything to see the things that "used" to be . Have a good one
@acavideo Not really the cowboy/cattle culture as much as the explosion in population. People gotta eat and it takes land to rasie cattle and crops. Not wanting to get into any serious debate. Just posting my two cents. Posted by a rancher who by theory is part of the problem, and yet hates to see anything disappear, they were here first.
@JesikaMS ya i remember wen i was little we watched John Wyane movies all day if we could an between each movie he told me stories that the movie reminded him of.
This is not "country", its western. Years ago when I was younger it was actually called country and western music, thats when all the good bands and singers had a wetsern cowboy theme, during the 80's they dropped the western and went only country and lost a lot of its soul in the process.
@MrAzrancher well you're right, country music today sucks ass. But it's not because they lost the western motif. It's because record producers and country "artists" think they can re-package the same crap over and over again and keep feeding it to the masses. It's all just over produced pop music.
@MrAzrancher John Denver always spoke about this too how people confused country and western music together. This song is definitely not country, but probably one of the best that captures the spirit of the wild. Great words by Bob McDill and singing by Don.
