I'm surprised that Motorola is still trying to sell the nonsense of 3.4dpmo. It's history follows:
Bill Smith pulls a shift of "up to 1.5 sigma" out of thin air for uncontrolled processes.
Mikel Harry "proves" it for all process, based on stacks of disks.
Then Harry says it's empirical and "not needed".
In 2003 Harry "proves" it as a "correction".
Then Harry's mate Reigel claims it is a "dynamic mean offset".
... all easily shown to be complete rubbish. Read "Sick Sigma - Part 2"
