Well Yugoslavia was not failing it was growing but that didnt seem well with the rest of the western world they did not want to let the western people see that one type of socialism is working so they found the weakest link unfortunately that was ethnic tension. The west did not want to see a socialist country be economically stable in Europe because Yugoslavia would be in Europe what Germany is now and thats the story people need to relize it was all about the money and power.

I'm voting yes. For one thing, joining a common market of 500 million people gives great opportunities for business. Another thing, 95% of the times the EU has pressured the Croatian government was in the interest of the Croatian people. The pressure was mostly aimed at the up til recently ruling party HDZ, which was highly corrupt, to get their act together. That is why former prime minister Sanader had to stand down and now is facing charges of corruption.

@Chrijz To your information, i was born in Yugoslavia. Not FR Yugoslavia, but SFR Yugoslavia. And no, i werent born in the year of 1991 when it died, years earlier. So i know how Yugoslavia was, during the Tito era, and after tito. And i can just tell you from my point of view i lived way better in old Yugoslavia than i do in the banana republic of Bosnia And Herzegovina now. Atleast, we had jobs, we had some kind of social safety, what do we have now? a country thats about to get into a new war

And Yugoslavia was a "mild" communism. I personally wasn't in Czechoslovakia, but in all countries under russian occupation the situation was similar (luckily for us, we didn't have that "honor" :)

Those offroad and toilet stuff were extremely rare examples of a genuine idiocy (or just bad taste), and certainly not a general opinion in the west. In the accession process (and as a memeber), Romania has achieved a huge economic growth , from 38B$ GDP to over 160B$ (1990-2007). The problems started in 2009 as for the all others, and that's the year when the whining about an "exploatation" of funds receivers has emerged among ultra-left-right "patriotic" (low iq) brotherhood.
Serbia for instance was a much more developed country than Romania, but it fell behind because of a lack of EU support - 34B$ - 46B$ (1990-2007).

Well Yugoslavia was not failing it was growing but that didnt seem well with the rest of the western world they did not want to let the western people see that one type of socialism is working so they found the weakest link unfortunately that was ethnic tension. I'm voting yes. For one thing, joining a common market of 500 million people gives great opportunities for business. Another thing, 95% of the times the EU has pressured the Croatian government was in the interest of the Croatian people. The pressure was mostly aimed at the up til recently ruling party HDZ, which was highly corrupt, to get their act together. That is why former prime minister Sanader had to stand down and now is facing charges of corruption.

So i know how Yugoslavia was, during the Tito era, and after tito. And i can just tell you from my point of view i lived way better in old Yugoslavia than i do in the banana republic of Bosnia And Herzegovina now. Atleast, we had jobs, we had some kind of social safety, what do we have now? a country thats about to get into a new war

@KarlosTheMighty I know how it was personally, I was in Yugoslavia many summers, crappy cars and crappy roads etc, and I felt like royalty (very rich) coming from the Western world, maybe you got lucky in CZ?! And Yugoslavia was a "mild" communism. Most Western media doesn´t really have propaganda against communism (they barely mention Gulag, but constantly whining about German camps, in fact, I´ve read that Swedish media-people are mostly leftists), maybe just USA.

I personally wasn't in Czechoslovakia, but in all countries under russian occupation the situation was similar (luckily for us, we didn't have that "honor" :)
Don't listen to your parents when talking about it, they're just nostalgic of their youth.. and hence heavily biased :)

Look when Germans camed here after revolution, the thougt we dont have roads so they camed in offroads, or when Czech come to London for example, they think "ou you are from postcommunist country, do you want explain how to use toilet?" Those offroad and toilet stuff were extremely rare examples of a genuine idiocy (or just bad taste), and certainly not a general opinion in the west. Such irrelevant tales are always used for proving otherwise unprovable points. People in the west generaly had a pretty good picture of what was happening in our countries (sometimes better than we did).
Anyway, i'd say there's a difference between know-how to use toilet and "normal life".

As for the comparison, you should compare PPP (purchasing power parity) gdp per capita of Germany and Czech Rep. and you'll see the ratio is merely about 1.5 not 3 (and even nominal ratio is not 3 but some above 2). In the "not-so-bad" times of your parents, you could only dream about such a position.. In fact, you could hardly even dream about it.
Secondly, i was talking about the "sight", means visual perception.
