Actually, Indradeep2008 - there were Arabs and other Middle Eastern peoples in the court of the Sinhala kings in Anuradapura and Polonnuaruwa even before the beginning of Islam. The connection between Sri Lanka and Muslims therefore must have taken place as soon as Islam spread in the Middle East. Until the coming of the British it was not uncommon to find Muslims serving as Physicians in the courts of Sinhala kings.
