Believe me....The original coaster was WAY better. I grew up with the park, and worked there in 1983. The original location had great old atmosphere. I totally avoid the downtown location.
Thanks for posting this! It brings back great memories of my favorite coaster of all time. I rode it 31 times in one day as a teenager, all in the front seat, of course!
@piekid666666 yeah this ride was the best. they should have re-located it in stead of making a coaster "based "off it. or if they built a new one they should have at least build it verbatum to John allen's 1065 specifications. The only people who have made a decent ride based off this was Knobels, and theirs was strongly based off the original 1965 plans but they had to modify it to fit a smaller site
I just found this POV and I've been riding the Knoebels Twister for many years, so it's very interesting to see the differences between the two. Pretty much aside from the split lift hill (great tension-builder!) the ride looks almost exactly the same except for the fact that the Knoebels' version is a mirror-image e.g. you enter the helix at the top right instead of the left and the tunnel is in a different spot (right before the brake run).
Was that fun I like the mind eraser better than both but The twister 2 is pretty cool. It would be cool if they would have just kept that version but the new one is pretty sick.
So, can somebody tell me, what exactly was it that was so much better on the Original compared to the Twister II? I only rode on the Mr. Twister once and i was a little kid and don;t remember much of it... I still don't think the new one is half shabby!
This ride was SO much better than the pathetic recreation at the new Elitch's. It's still hard to understand why this ride was not duplicated exactly at the new location.
dude, you are the MAN! thank you so much for this video. You probably have the only full video of this ride in existence and the only time i ever remember my father actually scared. Now if only i could find video or film clips of the old big dipper at spring lake park in OK City.
You got this footage from Roy Brashears' Roller Coaster Weekend, didn't you!? How did you get the video to digital format? By the way, I think your footage of old parks is great!
Yes this clip comes from the video Roller Coaster Weekend, it has a lot of really good stuff in it. I just found the video in a box and probably have not watched it in over 10 years. I have all my Super 8 film and video transferred to digital at homemoviedepot com
Accually the ride was rebuilt a few times before they came up with the "mister twister".

many parts of this look scarier than the twister 2, for example, the tilt on the turns as opposed to the verticle turns.

Twister 2 is horrid. A piece that never should have been built....the Wildcat and Mr. Twister should have been moved.
