  • Goosebump rendition. Anyone have "Guess Who I Saw Today" by Eydie?

  • There is nothing Bab's had that Eydie didn't voice wise! She was a vocal dynamo and could get right to the core of a lyrics meaning. I played both these ladies records to bits and admired and adored Eydie as much as her label mate Barbra for her big brassy, voice that could also be soft tender and beautiful.Puzzled I watched Babs ascend to the heights and Eydie become part of Steve and Eydie and stop recording solo. Criminally underrated. A truly great artist and a fabulous diva.

  • This will be sung by a gay male character (David Gamble) in the revival with Harry Connick Jr! Hope he's a belter!

  • I have to tell you that every time I hear this song it reminds me of my mom who would play that album all over and over around the house when I was growing up and I would be listening to Boss radio 93 KHJ and all that related music. I am very grateful to have had that diversity of music when I did and it will always make my eyes tear up every time I hear that particular Eydie Gorme' song and think of her....Thanks so much for the posting.

  • Best version ever of this great Lerner/Lane song from "On A Clear Day You Can See Forever" (Forgive me, Babsie, but you ain't even close!). Eydie's dynamic vocal coupled with a chart by one arranger who really understood singers, Don Costa, makes it a mind-blower every time you hear it.

  • great voice always

  • great voice always

  • I enjoyed her music as a kid and appreciate it even more now that I'm older. Are there any artists like this today?

  • If I ever get a chance to perform this song anywhere even karaoke there is only one

version that reigns supreme in my mind and its Eydie , gosh I used to play the heck out of this album back in the 1970's . I need to get the CD or MP3. Thank you for bringing back this great classic and my love of this genre of music.

  • One for the Ages. A great performance.

  • I heard this as a kid on AM radio--I was maybe 5 or 6. I have never forgotten it. She builds to that fantastic ending and just knocks it out of the park. Bravissima!!

  • I think this has always been her best rendition of this song. I believe it is from the album, "Don't Talk to Strangers", which my mother had. The album itself is incredible, every cut on it perfection. Edie Gorme is one of the greatest ever.

  • One of the most truly fabulous voices in recording history. Truly one of the most fabulous.

  • I have two of her old lp's that I bought in the mid-sixties! I was 20 y.o. then, and her voice blew me away, as it does to this day. Power, tone & talent! Exceedingly UNDERRATED!

  • @450984 I just wrote that she was underrated this morning. I have been a huge Eydie fan for 41 years this July. Her voice blew me away when I was five and it still does at almost forty-six.

  • dang!!!!! that lady can singgggggg. what a clear strong voice, great song

  • Absolutely THE BEST! Effortless!

  • Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh I have searched for this as a CD for years!!!!!!

Many thanks......I think this showcases her inner torch singer so well!!!!!!!!

  • One of the BEST singers who ever lived. Exquisite. You can't turn on the radio these days and hear some with one fiftieth of her talent.

  • Eydie's music isn't easy to find. And it's starting to kill me. I picked up a CD of hers just out of interest at the library and it was AMAZING. It should be front and center, yet it's kind of rare. She really has a TERRIFIC voice. I don't know how she sounds now. Does anyone know of a recent video?

  • @TheJoCor try going to amazon.com...they seem to have quite of few of her cds.

  • Thankyou snookiebutt for posting this beautiful music.

  • I grew up with this on an album called "Best of 66" and have been looking for this FOREVER!!

  • The Best interpretation for this amazing song....

  • I heard this song on the radio last night, and I was like "Who is this?! I gotta find this song!"

  • @ShiningOne10

This song is most likely coming back to Broadway this fall in On a Clear Day You Can See Forever with Harry Connick Jr in the male lead role ... lead female not cast or announced yet!

  • Eydie Gorme is the best DIVA ever.....a very enchanting voice and of course, beautiful !!!

  • Wonderful song and performance...thanks for posting!

  • Dearest and Wondrous Perfect-Pitch EYDIE!/Always. Yeah, TJapmes 1081... I "grewup" WITH Eydie, too... and now... I have EVERY! (got that?) EVERY LP she ever EVER cut. (Nah, none of the one and two mushedTogether compilation discs... rather ALL the originals... Heaven! :)) ... and, know what? some of the grooves are (I'm just certain!) they are FLAT! From love and listening to The Fine Eydie. I would LOVE to meet her, kiss her hand, and toss her Rose Petals! =J.

  • I swear, whoever's playing drums there was also the studio drummer on the Carol Burnett Show.

  • There's a live version of this song by Eydie on Youtube that everyone should hear. This studio version is wonderful but

the live version (from the Ed Sullivan show, 1968) is much more intense and the pace is much punchier. She sends the song out of the park!

I suggest everyone look for that live version of this song.

  • Streisand does a good rendition of this song in the move "On a Clear Day" due to the them of that movie.

  • Love this song !!! WOW WOW

  • The "Don't Go To Strangers" album and "Edyie Sings The Blues" are two of the best recordings EVER.

  • A wonderful singer ALWAYS

  • @MikeWilliamsonMusic Totally agree, Mike! Two amazing albums. "Eyde Swings The Blues" (from either '57 or '58) show that she was one hip chick. Steve & Eydie are inexplicably, criminally underrated singers and performers. Garland, Streisand and Gorme set the standard that remains unsurpassed.

  • Wow, Love Eydie, one of our BEST Female Singers, how she can interpret a

song... love hearing her, this song is one

of my favorites, so into my faves she goes

thanks for posting, Best- Marcie B.*

    Simply Sensational!!!!

  • I heard Streisand sing this song in On a clear day you can see forever

  • There are a lot of good singers around now. Yes, some as good as Eydie in their own genre. Eydie is, without a doubt, one of the best ever.

  • Oh my God... I had this LP with all of these on it, What Did I have, I Wanna Be Around, and If He Walked Into My life. I gave it and others away yrs ago, crazy.

  • any questions ???

  • With this performance Eydie moved into the ranks occupied by Doris Day and Ella Fitzgerald. Completely captivating!

  • Oh, Eydie, how I miss you. You are so wonderful; such a treasure.

  • There are no more singers like this now. All today's women singers do is scream- no soul for the song, no meaning to the words. Listen to this and you're trying to answer the question for her- that's how much she gets the listener involved in her singing. Great stuff, thanks for letting us hear it.

  • does any body know where i can get the lyrics to this song??? thx

  • How can I download this to my Ipod?

  • Had a chance to meet Eydie at her last performance in Palm Dessert...Thrilling

  • MAGNIFICENT SINGING!

  • This is one of my favorite "Eydie Recordings" but then, she has never been anything less than excellent.

  • this is my favorite. along with don't go to strangers darling and I f he walked into my life

  • @frankd1965: Okay, okay, agreed...BUT, also, her AS LONG AS HE NEEDS ME -- well, no one else ever needs to try it - it's done been SUNG by this gal.

  • Eydie did an awesome rendition of "As Long As He Needs Me" But Judy Garland sang that song on her 1963 TV series and it was incredible. both women had different ways of approaching songs. Garland was more a story teller and singing with intense feeling. Eydie Rocks though! I often wonder why the younger singers of today arent blessed with the Pipes that these Super great belters were blessed with. today they warble all over the place.

  • I have this song also. Great version too

  • THANK YOU!!!! I grew up listening to this song, as well as "If he walked into my life" and she has always knocked me out - i'm so glad you posted this. Thanks again!

  • My pleasure my friend!

  • @Snookiebutt

In NJ on route 70, there was the Latin Casino. Frank?

    Rich

  • @TJames1081 This along with "If He Walked Into My lIfe", "Don't Go To Strangers Darling" are THE BEST

  • I can remember listening to this song in my grandmother's house as a little girl and loving the way these women sang with such power and range. She and the incomparable Judy Garland were my favorites!

  • that is truly a fantastic voice! luv this song

  • Incredible. Fantastic quality recording, thanks so much for sharing! She's one of my all-time favorites. Had been looking for this tune yesterday (my birthday), and this was a wonderful gift. Thanks again!!!

  • You are so welcome and Happy Birthday!!

  • But, Eydie is great and so is Celine .....

  • Who doesn't suffer in comparison to Streisand? She's one of a kind........

  • Babs is vastly overrated. She is No Gorme! Eydie could sing her under the table! Streisand is like sinatra: full of it!

  • EYDIE. The best. Love her voice . She puts everything on the songs. WOW,what an incredible talent. SUPER.

  • I have to agree with the poster who said that Eydie's interpretation surpasses both Garland's and Streisand's; this version is simply incredible!

    Thanks for posting it!

  • Great song!

I miss Eydie hearing her sing!

    Thanks for the vid!

    God Bless!

    HtR

  • SUPERB!

  • I have always loved the way Eydie does this song - I used to hear it one CKWW outta Windsor/Detroit when they were playing The Music of Your Life. When, at the end, she sings "What did he see thats gone now? I just get CHILLS. She actually brings tears to my eyes. WOW WOW WOW, you go Eydie!

  • Does anyone where I can find her version of "Goody Goody"? I heard it on XM radio and it was awesome!

  • She is 1 of the best! Johnny had her on the tonight show often. Her talent and voice we never underrated, yet she never became the superstar her talent deserved! No one ever sang a "torch song" better!

  • I agree!!! She surpasses Streisand and Garland by light years!!!!

  • The best torch singer EVER!!! OMG!

  • OH!!! This Is The Shit..... thanks for posting this..

  • Fantastic rendition of this song. One of the best interpretations I have heard.

  • i LOVE EG!!

    Thanks for sharing!!

If you ever come across her singing "I Gotta Right To Sing The Blues", HOLLER!!!

  • I saw Steve & Eydie and Sinatra in 92 or 93. Seeing S&E in concert was a dream come true for me. Her velvet voice is effortless. Thanks for posting!

  • Eydie Gorme is ONE GREAT singer. saw her in concert along with husband Steve Lawrence. Just love this type of songs.

  • Love Eydie on this song and som many others...after Streisand and Garland she is up there!!!!!

  • Eydie is up there BEFORE Streisand and Garland. End of discussion!!!

  • noone is "up there BEFORE Garland.... or Streisand. I have the album Eydie did of all songs like this... As Long As He Needs Me.... powerful voice. But Judy Garland was the entertainer of the century... and that comes from Sinatra himself... who, understandably, is voted that honor because he was around a longer for newer generations to vote on.

  • Along with If He Walked Into My Life this one of the best songs off her very best album Don't Go To Strangers. I had the album years ago, lost it, and finally found it on CD. There's nothing else like it. She really pulled the stops out on this recording !

  • THANK YOU A MILLION TIMES FOR THIS POSTING!!!!It's a great song but she really kills on her ballads. just love EYDIE!!!

  • She is such an amazing vocalist. Thanks so much for posting this. Five stars!

  • This is easily Eydie's best recording. I can't get over the power in her voice, it's really amazing, and her vocal style is great too. She sings it perfectly.

  • I just love this beautiful little brunette from the Bronxs. I'm trying to imagine what my life would be like had she not chosen the entertainment industry. I don't even want to imagine it. I love Eydie's music and listen to her velvet voice each and every day, all day long. I will never grow tired of her sensational voice. Thanks for brightening up our world Mrs. Lawrence. Andrea

  • Thanks for posting a clear (non-scratchy) version of this song. I think it's Eydie's best song ever.
