A friend of mine and I used to sing a parody of this song called, "He Ain't Gay, He Just Walks That Way". Little did I know that the guy I was involved with at the time *was* gay. Good times....
Great song... didn't realize they were from Saskatchewan and sang so many other songs I grew up with... girl with a problem, Teenland, Things I do for Money... so many CDN bands like 'em I grew up with w/o really noticing or finding out about till now! They got some airplay but no real mkt'g! Still they resonate with me more than the pop crap like Madonna that go so much attn!
@roisoleil10 - It wasn't marketing, it was American radio's unwillingness to play Canadian bands. Since the 1970s, the CTRC required radio stations to play 33% Canadian music, the "Canadian content" law. A lot of bad music got played, but it forced record companies to put money into developing Canadian talent.
Unfortunately, US radio then *and* now thinks "they only get played because of CanCon". A lot of great bands never get airplay south of the border because of it.
This is a great song. Bands like this are why the Can-Con rules imposed on radio stations in Canada are never a problem. We have plenty of greats. Neil Young, Jeff Healy, The Band (4/5ths), The Guess Who, The 5 Man Electrical Band, The Hip, Rush, April Wine, Steppenwolf, BTO, David Wilcox, Chilliwack, and many more. If you know more, list them. Canada Rocks. And The Guess Who should be in the RRHOF. Anyone else agree?
These guys weren't a one hit wonder. They had several tunes that were radio regulars if you lived near the Canadian border. "Things I do for Money" is still played from time to time. Wish I could have seen them play live.
I wish this band would've been promoted harder nationally. Music sucks now-days, we need more of these REAL bands showing those commercialized fucks what it's all supposed to be about...
The Saaaaskachwaaaan aaaacent is amusing, though... I feel like driving in my Maazada to the shaaaping plaaaza, have a cap of caaafee, and after that maybe drive to Manaaagua Nicaraaagua, but I'll stop in Toraaanto first...
I always have loved these guys too. I heard this song on the radio before CBC broadcast a live NP session that I recorded on a BETA tape a Long Time Ago. Since then, I've had the indignity of running into a similar woman, and this has become somewhat of a theme song. Gotta love the Northern Pikes.
This woman reminds me of many that I've seen sitting at the bar all by themselves and every guy would be trying to get a piece of her.I won't give them the satisfaction at all.
I saw this band years ago and they put on a good solid show-more fun that many of the other shows I went to with bigger and more popular acts who charged more at the gates- plus so few bands actually have a sense of humor
Saskatoon best rock band-The Northern Pikes. Their cd-Snow In June is tops!. A newer Cd of theirs-Truest Inspiration is better than a classic cd, it's great. CBC do some real Canadiana - televise a Northern Pike concert. Larry
I spent a lot of time in Canada in the summer of 1990 and listened to a lot of local radio. This was one of my favorites from that time. Thanks for the memories
These guys were ahead of their time. Women today are not pretty at all.
