  • it's good that you are being helpful to others

  • wowv i already got the hang of that the first time i got my phone. i got an uncle who is a computer ingeneer who can fix anythig and knows everything about phones and computers

  • my palm couldn't connect to any device via bluetooth as it couldn't detect

any of them.can you help me?

  • It's kinda hard to see the screen

  • is the speakerr on the phone pretty loud

  • Yes, I find it very loud. I find myself turning down the volume more than I do turning it up.

  • lol @

i was jus thinkin "why is this dude screamin in mah ear (got headphones on)"

then i look at the screen and see that caption

  • :) Sorry about that!

  • Your videos are GREAT. Thanks so much.

    A few ???'s:

Is there anyway I can sync my tasks with my Mac?

Can you rearrange apps in the launcher?

Sometimes text pages don't scroll when you first open a page... fix on that?

    Batch erase pics?

    Camera resolution setting?

Again, thanks for these videos. You know more than any of the Palm or Sprint tech people I've spoken to!

  • Sorry it took me so long to reply. So, about sync with your Mac, at this point I dont know because I no longer own a mac, but I THINK you can when you sync your phone through iTunes. You can rearrange apps on the launcher, check some of my earlier videos or other videos on the pre. Not sure what you are talking about the text pages not scrolling. Batch Erase pics? ->not that I am aware. Camera Resolution Setting-> none that I can find.

And thank you for your compliment.

  • how long the ring sounds before the calls get loss???

  • I think its about 4-5 rings. Sorry for the late reply.

  • can you change the background to a pic you take on the phone?

  • You can pretty much change the background pic to whatever pic you want.

  • NAISHA333, thanks for the information. but i already knew that much. It never comes up so that I can forward or edit anything.... anyone else have any ideas....

  • I've had my palm pre for a wk already, Im so PO cause I cant figure out how to forward messages this sucks!

  • I am not sure you can. Let me know if you figure it out.

  • someone come out with a video on how to copy and paste... I still haven't figured that out yet.... really haven't had the time to figure it out... so help in that area...

  • you click on the tab in the top left corner and you click edit then theres a menu with cut copy paste.

  • how is this day 6 when u uploaded the vid on the 9th only 3 days after it came out???

  • Ahh, good call. So I got the pre on June 5th. If you include that day as well as June 9th, that makes 5 days not 6. I have updated the title of the video to reflect that.

Thanks for catching that! I appreciate it.

    Hope you're doing well.

  • For those who need to know, the best way i found to put pictures or screen savers onto the phone is to email them. So copy and paste on your computer attach and sent. You can capture a seen shot but it show everything clock, launcher etc.

  • > Obviously when you close the music app the song stops playing, if you dont want it to then dont close it thats why they allow multiple apps to remain open.

True. I guess it takes a while to get used to that whole true multitasking on such a mobile device...

It does make sense now that I think of it. Also, this way you have two ways to access the music player again.

  • Obviously when you close the music app the song stops playing, if you dont want it to then dont close it thats why they allow multiple apps to remain open. Some people are never happy, if when you closed it the music stayed on then you would be complaining that you had to open the app again to stop it. Jeez.....if you want a stereo go and buy one, only sad people have there phone sitting next to them with music playing with it sounding like its coming from a tin can. Excellent review though.

  • thefluxlife, can you please try, while in Music app, after starting a track, if you go all the way back in the app with the back gesture and then close the app, will it still stop the music playing? Just wondering... Thanks!

  • Did exactly as you described and as I suspected, the music stops playing.

Pretty much my experience has been that once the music app closes, the music stops. I wish there was a way to keep the music playing even when the actual Music 'Card' or App is no longer on the screen. Who knows maybe they can do this in an update.

  • There is a thick layer of glass over the screen, and it looks pretty tough. I always put my phone in a case and I haven't tried to scratch my phone, but it does appear to be scratch resistant.

  • What? the entire body is plastic, there's no glass on this thing, the screen is a thick piece of plastic. I know this, because a sprint rep's pre has tons of scratches on it already. Plus if you can see a reflection on the screen, press your finger ontop of the screen and you'll see the reflection start to warp. It's plastic...

  • Whew, yes sir, I must choose my words carefully when I write these comments. Groovdafied is right...there is NO GLASS. It is all plastic. Usually when I respond to these comments its either very early in the morning or very late in the evening and I'm stlll working on getting my head straight! Please excuse me, I'll try to be more careful in the future!

Just to clear things up, the Pre is ALL PLASTIC w/NO GLASS whatsoever.

    Thanks for clearing that up!

    Have a good one.

  • Is the screen as scratch- resistant as the iPhone's screen?

I really need to know before I buy..

    Thanks for the help.

    I'll make sure to subscribe.

  • Zagg has an invisible shielf for this device for full body coverage or just the screen. I believe the screen cover will be efficient enough...

  • no be careful, i was charged 35$ to swap out my phone and i was lucky. its usually 100$ but i know a sprint rep. if you do buy the phone buy an invisible shield i put one on and now the whole phone is scratch resitant and it didnt even make the phone thicker. search it up theres some videos on youtube type in iphone invisible shield. it works the same on the pre

  • Does the keyboard light up?

  • Yes it is backlit.

  • lol the funny part of the palm pre is that itunes finds the palm pre as an ipod...or at least i saw that once in a vid with phonedog so u can transfer songs pretty quick like that

  • Well you know some ex-apple people work at palm and help designed the Pre. How about that!

  • see now that i didnt kno.....lol

  • iPhone 3gs or palm pre?

    Any advise?

    Thanks

  • Gotta weigh the pros and cons for you really. The iPhone is THE iPhone, the hottest phone ever made and it has full iTunes support, a big deal to many people. On the other hand, the Pre connect to Amazon music - the second best thing to iTunes, as well as being able to sync to iTunes when connected to your computer.

  • The iPhone is on AT&T, the Pre on Sprint. AT&T is bigger and is known for better customer service, but their entire network is not 3G. Sprint has had Customer Service issues in the past, but the entire network is 3G and has been proven to have better data speeds than AT&T. Also - Sprint's plans are cheaper, so you can save a ton of money on them.

The iPhone does have more apps, but the Pre does have a new OS and open developer kit, much like the iPhone had at first launch.

  • I would say the advantages are as follows:

The device itself > iPhone 3G S, but only due to the storage capacity and current number of available apps. Otherwise, I call them good matches.

Carrier > Pre, as I never call customer care and can appreciate the fact that the entire network is 3G, not just parts of it.

Pricing > Pre - initially more expensive, but the plan savings MORE than make up for it over the 2-year contract you get. Approx $1000 difference.

    Hope this helps you pick.

  • @Dreznin: Sorry, iPhone had open developer kit at first launch?

Anyway, another thing to note is that Pre's webOS allows you to create native apps in web technologies, making it accessible to a much bigger base of developers - in theory (and I'm sure they're betting on it) that should allow for a much rapider grow of apps than iPhone experienced. Of course it currently lacks in the number since the developer kit for Palm's webOS hasn't even been launched publicly.

  • Oh, one other thing to note is that technically speaking, webOS allows you to run literally thousands more apps than there are in the App Catalog. There's the app called Classic that runs older, PalmOS based apps that some people still need. That's an emulator even though it means the experience (user interface wise etc.) with these apps isn't near as good as with the native webOS apps. Some time ago, I believe it was actually Palm (with old PalmOS) that had an unmatched number of apps...

  • Great video. Does the build in email app work like the dedicated Gmail app that you can download for other phones i.e. you can archive emails, search your full gmail account on your phone, etc? Or is it just a regular pop/imap client?

  • Good question! As far as Gmail goes it actually acts more like an IMAP client and your labels become folders. If you move an email to a folder on the Pre client, it makes the change on Gmail server as well. So next time you log in, you will see those changes reflected.

While I do like the email app on the Pre, so far I tend to stick to Gmail mobile in the browser (but use the app for notifications) so I can utilize some of the features you mentioned about Gmail.

    Hope that makes sense.

  • how did you add wallpapers? i tried adding some in when i connected my pre to the computer and dragged my files into the wallpaper folder but when i disconnected it wasnt there..

  • Hmm, that's exactly what I did. The files I used were jpg files. I have not tried other file types.

  • great review thing once again, looking forward to moar.

  • Hey there! Can you set a song from your music library as a ringtone?

  • Hey there back! Yes you can. It starts playing from the beginning of the song though. I haven't found a way to have the ringtone play from the middle of a song.

  • nice im having a problem choosing email/ messages notification tones can u help me?

  • btw i mean the pink one. you mentioned u moved some pictures around so i wasnt clear if the pink one was standard. :) thanks

  • I'm actually waiting for the UPS man to deliver my phone now. Thanks for your video, you covered alot of ground so I possibly wont feel entirely stupid when trying to use it when it gets here, haha.

  • thanks for the music app review !

  • Great review and you made me laugh! 5 stars:)

  • just wondering wud u pick up the call if u opened the keyboard?

also do u know wen it will get video recording and flash support for web browser?

  • Haven't tried it. Will try it next time I get a call.

From what I've gathered, Flash support is coming by the end of the year.

  • Nice, thanks for doin all these videos. Currently I'm on VZW, and am going to cancel my contract and get a sprint one with the Palm Pre. Just waiting for my Sprint store to get some back in stock . :-S From what i've watched I don't think I've seen you demonstrate how to change your home buttons, and that if you can change the 'Wave' Buttons too. If those are different from your original home buttons or not. Thanks!

  • No you can change them the exact same way you move them on when you bring up the main menu. The only thing is that it can only hold 5. But out of the those 5, only 4 can be changed. The icon that launches the main menu cannot be moved.

  • Hey, I love checking out your videos. I myself own a pre . I remember you saying your battery would last two days before it dies in one of your comments in another video. Are all your settings default? After a hard surfing the web, youtube videos, and listining to pandora radio my battery is about 32% from 9am-9pm. My settings are instant email(which I heard saves battery rather then checking every 15 min) and brightness setting almost all the way low( it's still way bright enough for me)

  • Ah, good point. I stopped using the email app because I just feel very comfortable around gmail(mobile) and I do all my mail (even POP mail accounts) through gmail. Aside from that, I have the screen brightness set just a little lower than half and WiFi and BT off.

Im not 100% about Pandora, but YouTube videos def. consume a lot of power.

Not sure that helps, but let me know how it goes!

  • I agree with you, but with one exception. Getting emails pushed to the pre when it arrives itself drains the battery really fast and does not save any juice especially compared to having it checked up every 15 minutes.

  • I can confirm this. I spent one day with the email being pushed to the pre and my battery drained from 100% at 6am to about 20% by 9pm, but admittedly that day I only made a few calls and did not surf the web that much.

The next day, only used gmail(mobile) for email. 100% at 6am to about 55% around 9pm with light call usage and moderate web usage.

I bet if you change the frequence for which the app checks for emails, it will save power. Think Im sticking with gmail mobile for now.

  • agreed, just increase the time intervals when connecting to the servers. I've set them to 1 hour, I would prefer a 2 - 3 interval, but I can't set that unfortunately.
