  • 0:20 holy crap are you supposed to put that much in? I would have only put half that amount

  • lol imagine going though a time machine, even being white id be offended by peoples general behavior. and if i wasnt offended they would think i was crazy because id be laughing so hard!

  • Now this is in bad taste. Not even a cartoon version of a Minstrel Show was considered correct by the 1950s. I doubt that it was distributed widely across the country for obvious reasons.

  • What was this? A wine?

  • @Sheri451 Ribena is a blackcurrant juice, and you can still buy it in many stores today. It is quite nice, and they have since started making Ribena Strawberry and Ribena Lite

  • @GreenDouche It might taste good then

  • Look on the bright side . . . At least they ain't singing Rap

  • @jakearkinstall...how about the fact that mentioning your mistress as not your wife but 'current' girlfriend has nothing to do with selling juice..

  • Im not sure if Id class it as racist. There arent any offensive remarks, nor does it cast black people negatively. I wouldnt be offended if I saw an advert for... Whiteboards or whatever... From a prodominantly black country, showing white people dancing. Id find it rather entertaining really.

  • blackcurrents are black..wowza...

  • @IEntendu Hardly..

  • @IEntendu Yeh sure, don't be a dick, your a tard if you think blackcurrents are actualy black. Dont get pissy.

  • what exacty was the stuff being sold?

  • yeah i dont see how this is racist.

  • Between this commercial and the Black & White Minstrel Show, this theme seems quite popular in the UK back in the day...

  • For that I'm gonna squash some White currents

  • Well it was in black and white,

  • Audio is somewhat out of sync...

  • Black penis?

  • It's funny how brave racist are on the internet

  • Well... that was... something.

Oh, and why are the two in the back just disembodied hovering heads?

  • @Spankityspank1 so does redneck trailor trash.

  • looks like a 1950's meme

  • Well it's not hard to miss why it' be construed as offensive!! They' look like they're in blackface since they have white lips and happen to be dressed like minstrels would and are playing the jingle in minstrel fashion.

  • @2004mojo BINGO ! Hit it right on the button !

  • And since it was from the 50's, who cared if afro-americans were offended.

  • Actually I enjoyed this cartoon even if it isn't p.c. It is nostagic.

  • Snappy dressers.

  • What was ribena?

  • @olddude521

Ribena is a black current Cordial

It is still available to buy

  • @wotnochips does ribina have alcohol in it?

  • @wotnochips

    Its fucking good 2!

  • @olddude521 we still have it,

Its a cordial made out of black currents.

  • @olddude521 Dumb ass :L

  • @GeoffWilde :what's wrong,geoff. hemmeroids bothering you today?

  • @GeoffWilde Maybe they dont sell Ribena where he lives?

  • Who ever knew that Black & White minstrels were the best doctors of the 1950's and that by drinking Ribena you could cure every sickness on the planet? Maybe we need an update with them telling us it can cure AIDS, ADHD and cancer as well.

  • why isnt it politicly correct

  • I don't find that very racist

  • @Quiche118 That doesn't surprise me at all.

  • wow. holy shit. lol

  • Ooooooooh, bad move Ribena!! lol

  • Peter Griffin: Now thats good old fashioned family racism! ^_^

  • @MelanieLouM

black face yes but happy black face.

  • @MelanieLouM For a second I thought you wrote nick Girrin, would have worked just as well too :D

  • Straight Outta Camptown

  • Judging by the ad bumper at the start, it was shown on Associated-Rediffusion I believe - and yes, times were different then, whether we like it or not.

  • This would never be on tv today. Looks like a cartoon version of Amos and Andy.

  • This is one of the greatest things I have ever seen.

  • This is British, right? The "Black and White Minstrel Show" was a long running BBC program that is now seen as an embarrassment despite the fact that it was a hit with viewers as late as 1978!

  • It's a bloody advert for gods sake.

Some people are too pc for their own chuffing good!

  • You know

    when i saw this cartoon

    that is all i saw

    a cartoon..

it never occured 2 me it was offensive

    & 2 be honest

i still see just a cartoon

  • @wotnochips and even when you start to think about it being offensive, it's hard to see what people could pick out of it. All you see are some black currants singing and dancing... surely it's not much different from the current black currant ads?

  • @wotnochips thats because you're white

  • @wotnochips That's because the younger generations, which I'm assuming you're from as well, have lived in a society that has largely erased racism, at least on the surface. Most of us grew up in tolerant families who taught equality. If you grew up back then, though, or if your family has kept the wounds or the hatred alive, then you're naturally going to find it offensive. Tried explaining this to some 40-somethings once. Like talking to a wall.

  • Watch out.

The PC brigade will be knocking on your door!

  • This pisses me off...

  • LOL =D

  • whats the best bit it wat was racist is now funny.

  • Welcome to the 50's
