I have this little PC and the installed Xandros Linux is so so. XP was not good on it. I been using Peasypeasy Linux on it now for 8 months and havent looked back.
its actually quite good, i installed wndows xp on here and i'm actually dissapointed with it. Im going to put that pre-installed linux xandros back on.
Big differences, too many to just say here. Most of the differences you won't notice. The main difference for you is that Linux is free, and Windows XP isn't.
The second difference, is the look. As you've seen, Linux looks different from Windows, and needs getting used to it. This is Xandros Linux btw, there are tons of other Linux 'distributions' or flavours.
Another difference, is that Windows has far more virusses. Linux has had almost no virusses, Windows has had thousands.
everything except your DRM'ed media. (if you don't know what DRM is, its basically crippleware added to your files so that they only play on one program, like iTunes music [although iTunes is gradually moving away from DRM, since Apple says that DRM just doesn't work.])
none so far come with windows, all have linux preinstalled. But it is fairly easy to install windows if you decide you will use that not Linux. try it first
oh ok...i have some questions cuz im intersted inbuying one...because its solid state...can it still run xp....and can u install linux programs inthe linux?
You *can* install Linux programs on the Linux version, but this is tricky, and unless you know the command line I wouldn't suggest doing it. (although there are some guides on the net).
With 4 gigs of space (on some models 8) you can install XP with SP2 (but with 4 gigs space not SP3, with 8 you can). However you will run out of space *very* quickly if you're not careful, so if you do install XP you should delete or at least reduce the size of the pagefile (again, look at the net).

Nice computer, but I put Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon on mine, works very great. As for the the SDHC, I have a 8gb Adata which works very unstably. Can't move large volumes of data at once. Was not detected at all while the original Xandros SO was running.
Does the eee pc's card reader support SDHC cards? I'm planning to buy an 8gig class 2 card for my eee pc. Just want to make sure if it will work with my eee.
Please, someone reliable answer my question. Thanks!
I am considering buying this because i cant use my parents computer anymore and cant really afford anything else but i mainly use computers for downloading music and have alot of songs and was woundering since this has a very low memory would it be able to handle downloading songs and if there is any way to expand the memory because i currently have about 15 gb worth of music and this is only a 4 gb harddrive
yeah, external harddrive will work fine. get a usb 2.5" one, since they will work without having to be plugged into the mains and will be portable like the Eee. they're a great little computer, especially for the price!
it seems good but i am unfamiliar with the linux operating system and know this computer also can come with windows instead and was woundering if there is a a big difference in the quality and preformance.
if you get Windows expect everything to run slower and have more problems. hehe
But really if you buy it with windows you will get a smaller hard drive but it will cost the same. check out the web site.
It is not a power house PC. Linux is the best bet. You will be writing word docs downloading music, ect Linux will be great. No anti virus necessary, quick small and fast.
oh ya... and there is a 2gig, 4gig, and 8gig, and each one has an open SD slot. so the space potential is 16gig of memory... excluding USB that can be used for external hard drives. and the 8gig has 1gig of ram
Why the bloody hell do you want to install Windows on it ?! Do you walk into a store looking at mobile phones asking "can you install Windows on it ?"
