  • i have the Eee PC 701 with linux same as the video.. i was trying to connect to my Wireless and found out there was known issues while trying to sort this out my desk Top vanished and now all i have is a Blank Screen with a taks Bar which says "show desktop" but when clicked does nothing... any idea what has happened and how it could be fixed??

  • I have this little PC and the installed Xandros Linux is so so. XP was not good on it. I been using Peasypeasy Linux on it now for 8 months and havent looked back.

  • can i uninstall the linux if i buy one? and add another version of linux instead?

  • The Linux OS installed is a little dissapointing, they could have just used Ubuntu as the default choice.

  • @MyLowBattery

its actually quite good, i installed wndows xp on here and i'm actually dissapointed with it. Im going to put that pre-installed linux xandros back on.

  • ive got a problem with my asus 701 when i start it up theres just a blank screen but the power and wifi lights are on

  • @Wylerbeats me too see my other comment.... did you find a fix??

  • Every os sucks! Get a wife & a life!

    (p.s: mac still sucks shit)

  • Couldn't agree more.

  • Finally some-one who likes a Mac.

Dude your pretty cool. Am going to subscribe

    to you :)

  • Why thank you, i subscribed to you also. :)

  • could i save an open office file and take it to school and view/edit it in microsoft office?

  • yes, you could

  • yes

  • ohhh open office good good

  • What is the difference between Windows XP and Linux?

  • mmmmmmmmm....

    EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Big differences, too many to just say here. Most of the differences you won't notice. The main difference for you is that Linux is free, and Windows XP isn't.

The second difference, is the look. As you've seen, Linux looks different from Windows, and needs getting used to it. This is Xandros Linux btw, there are tons of other Linux 'distributions' or flavours.

Another difference, is that Windows has far more virusses. Linux has had almost no virusses, Windows has had thousands.

  • better than windows by miles slightly better than mac osx no virus ARE POSSIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Linux Is Faster Than Windows :) Worth Buying It. Got On Myself + Its Works, Does Everything That A Normal Computer Would Do :) x

  • is linux like a mac or what?

  • Linux is an operating system; you can install it on a Mac or a PC. You can make it look like Windows, like a Mac, or like this if you like.

  • can it play video, movies and mp3?

  • yes.

  • everything except your DRM'ed media. (if you don't know what DRM is, its basically crippleware added to your files so that they only play on one program, like iTunes music [although iTunes is gradually moving away from DRM, since Apple says that DRM just doesn't work.])

  • it does not play MTS files. anything that's recorded in AVCHD format would not play on this pc

  • you can get the $299 dollar windows anywhere if you look in the right places.

  • como desinstalo ese programa para ponerle xp

no puedo descargar nada ni videos

  • Can i get the $299.00 version with Windows? or can i only get Linux with that version?

  • none so far come with windows, all have linux preinstalled. But it is fairly easy to install windows if you decide you will use that not Linux. try it first

  • wrong.

  • you have to pay a couple of dozen bucks extra for Windows, although I highly suggest sticking with the Linux version.

  • oh ok...i have some questions cuz im intersted inbuying one...because its solid state...can it still run xp....and can u install linux programs inthe linux?

  • You *can* install Linux programs on the Linux version, but this is tricky, and unless you know the command line I wouldn't suggest doing it. (although there are some guides on the net).

With 4 gigs of space (on some models 8) you can install XP with SP2 (but with 4 gigs space not SP3, with 8 you can). However you will run out of space *very* quickly if you're not careful, so if you do install XP you should delete or at least reduce the size of the pagefile (again, look at the net).

  • @metasuperhyper As far as internet experince goes what should i choose linux or windows?

  • how can i install flash player on a asus eee pc 2g surf ?

  • it should have it aleady build in

  • duz it ave java??

  • yea... except on the 2g model, they couldn't fit it in.

    saludos

  • the asus eee pc has cool games and stuff so the advanced mode is more fucked up mode cuz linux with films is more useful the windows linux is programable! i have a hard time downloading java in my eee pc

  • Can it play movies from an usb stick? or ssd?

  • yup

  • How? I tried but it doesn't work

  • what format was it

  • it can't play videos with DRM, i.e. those which only work with one program, like iTunes movies or such. its gotta be in a widely supported format, like mp4 or ogg video

  • I bought the ASUS Eee PC 702 black, with 8GB SSD and 1GB RAM running Xandros Linux. First time with a Linux machine. I love it. You can buy higher power batterys at various places or off of Ebay. Mugen Power also sells higher capacity batterys.

Fantastic little machine. Getting on the internet with WiFi is great. Better range then many full size laptops. Perfect? No. but for small size, backpacking or traveling it's great. I got used to the small keyboard over time, and I have big hands.

saludos y buen video capo !

    =)

  • windows es para vagos!! aguante Linux!!! ;)

  • Its not made for gaming...

  • bravo & merci.

  • Nice computer, but I put Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon on mine, works very great. As for the the SDHC, I have a 8gb Adata which works very unstably. Can't move large volumes of data at once. Was not detected at all while the original Xandros SO was running.

  • You do know tha Linux OS won't see more than one gb right?

anyways it's a great pc cheap too

  • Emtep, if you mean the ram the 1gb limit applies only to the Xandros linux preinstalled. Ubuntu has no problem with 2gb at all.

Still can't write to SDHC, but can read from it ok. 2GB sd cards work great, even with Xandros.

  • ReallY!? I did not know that 0.0

  • would an 8gb SDHC work on the 2gb surf (700)

  • yes any size of sd or sdhc card would work

  • Does the eee pc's card reader support SDHC cards? I'm planning to buy an 8gig class 2 card for my eee pc. Just want to make sure if it will work with my eee.

Please, someone reliable answer my question. Thanks!

  • yah....they support 8gig and more sd cards...

  • this music sucks.. kill yourself

  • Meh, its not great but works with the video. Better than some unrelated song by Linkin Park.

  • Dont you mean upgrade the hard drive? memory is ram lol

  • I am considering buying this because i cant use my parents computer anymore and cant really afford anything else but i mainly use computers for downloading music and have alot of songs and was woundering since this has a very low memory would it be able to handle downloading songs and if there is any way to expand the memory because i currently have about 15 gb worth of music and this is only a 4 gb harddrive

  • if u buy an external hard drive it'll be fine

  • yeah, external harddrive will work fine. get a usb 2.5" one, since they will work without having to be plugged into the mains and will be portable like the Eee. they're a great little computer, especially for the price!

  • it seems good but i am unfamiliar with the linux operating system and know this computer also can come with windows instead and was woundering if there is a a big difference in the quality and preformance.

  • Yah,

if you get Windows expect everything to run slower and have more problems. hehe

But really if you buy it with windows you will get a smaller hard drive but it will cost the same. check out the web site.

It is not a power house PC. Linux is the best bet. You will be writing word docs downloading music, ect Linux will be great. No anti virus necessary, quick small and fast.

Do yourself a favor and get it with Linux

  • In addition to that, it comes with the free office suite. Try that with Microsoft Office...

  • or just upgrade to 2gb ram!

  • can i use my external hard drive with asus eee??

  • yes

  • yes windows works on it! i have read up on it, take it from me

  • No real need for windows considering the specs though. If anything i think wine would cover it

  • I'm using windows on my Eee pc. runs great. ^_^

  • Windows is for games only, in my book. Everything else, I would use linux (ubuntu) for.

  • well... u r wrong

  • i hate how all these asshats are coming on here asking if windows will work on it... please, learn how to use a REAL OS. winblows socks.

  • Yes its completely gay... And you don't even have to 'learn' the Linux based Eee... its easy enough for a child...

  • very true cerrebralgump!!!

  • Agreed.

  • but i read the hard drive is only 2gb and 512 ram

the question i have is that you can install windows on it

  • no hard drive.... its solid state memory. and yes its Windows XP compatible =')

  • oh ya... and there is a 2gig, 4gig, and 8gig, and each one has an open SD slot. so the space potential is 16gig of memory... excluding USB that can be used for external hard drives. and the 8gig has 1gig of ram

  • Why the bloody hell do you want to install Windows on it ?! Do you walk into a store looking at mobile phones asking "can you install Windows on it ?" There's a heap of Mobile Internet Devices coming out this year, all running Linux... Are you going to ask for Windows on those too ?? Freaking hell man I suppose you want to run Windows on an iPhone as well...

  • Well anyways these PC'S are a heap of cheap nasty shit so why bother with one? I got a dekstop instead. Ciao.

  • I love it. But whats up with the Windows XP theme? :/

  • it isn't Windows. it's Linux

  • it isn't Windows. it's Linux

  • actually it's GNU/Linux, but you didn't read what i wrote, i said: "whats up with the Windows XP __THEME__?"

  • actually it's GNU/Linux, but you didn't read what i wrote, i said: "whats up with the Windows XP __THEME__?"

  • It's just the them they set up for IceWM, but its pretty easy to change with some wizards, just google it.

  • Its KDE.

  • i got 2 get one!

  • cool vid i liked it

  • I want have it

  • rammster2 ehhy? wow what a coincidence, i dont even know if you will understand this lol

    rammstein are the best :]

  • Nice video.

What is the name of the music playing to it?

  • w00t a laptop wiv linux tghis is soooo cool sum 1 buy me one plzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • buy it your self there only about 220 EUROS and 400 dollars.

  • NO ITS COOL U CAN PUT FLASH ON AND ADOBE AND U CAN PUT WINDOZE ON IT BUT U CUD PUT WINE ON IT AND RUN EXE'S (if u dont want it ill buy it??)

  • Nah, you can only put flash adobe on it "shockwave if its running windows not the cheap program it has on it now.

  • 1 it comes with flash player

    2 you can install programs

3 you can install a linux version of lime wire

4 why would you want to play habbo hotel? (it does work anyway)

  • It comes with flash. You can install lots of programs, including Limewire (though I don't know why you would want to since Limewire is crap). Basically you fail.

  • ...cant unterstand why reviews have music instead of words, or better nothing, it loads longer with music

  • The producer of this review should be nominated for an academy. Did you guys also create the music we hear? If yes, then you should be nominated for a grammy as well.

  • it is amarok... amarok ftw.

  • I've heard the music player is a graphical frontend to mplayer

  • Its Amarok

  • it seems it is amarok

  • i like the pr0n music

  • lawl

    saludos!!!
