All the foreigners here I know have an iPhone. And it's funny how the Japanese consumer doesn't want to buy one because its "too complex" or doesn't have 1-Seg and "emoji" (both of which were remedied in updates), but rush out and buy DoCoMo handsets which virtually do the same thing. Another example of consumer jingoism in Japan.
god they took the phone really seriously i mean its only a phone.. god cant they just say the iPhone is officially out....NOW or something simple not a freaking count down and fire works lol god.
well besides i was in japan for a trip when it came out and i am japanese I am just here in USA for few years tats it so i thought i should get it in japan
john i got my iphone 2 days ago hehe and it is white .and i paid cash for my iphone hehe..coz my visa end on april next year ..and even i will further my study for more two years i have to wait till March to renew my visa ..so i paid cash for my iphone..i wanna ask ...do u will unlock ur iphone ? or u have unlocked it ? i only think maybe u will go US or travel outside Japan..if u know how to unlock it .. tell me hehe ..
The most over-the-top event I have ever seen. It's just a phone, you would think those people won the lottery. I was happy enough to just walk into my local At&t, order my iphone and pick it up later...
wow the people handling the phone where wearing gloves so they wouldnt put fingerprints on the phone im pissed when i got my phone activated they didnt wear gloves i wish they did...
its actualy realy stupid that there wearing gloves cuz it is much harder to use the touch screen with gloves it hardly works when u have gloves on and u can see this at around the six min. point on this vid
you fuckin retard i know why there using gloves i was only stating that it is much harder to use the touch of the iphone with gloves on cuz it doesnt react so read the mesage and know ur facts before u go callin people retards dumbass
You know they are doing something right when they even have the Japanese lining up for their phone. The Japanese cell market is so much more advanced and MUCH different than our American market, so its really a big success to have the Japanese anticipating it.
Though Japan is a hightech country and have so many better cell phone and stuff than we do, japanese ppl always respect American tecnologies. I LOVE IT!! They are VERY polite too!!!
That was awsome John .... Im surely going to get my iphone 3G by september... because im going on vacation and cant buy it now ... but no sweats.... Japan Looks awsome !!
Maybe you could help me out. I am about to be stationed (1 September) at Yokota AFB in Tokyo, Japan. I am going to serve a 3 year tour there. Will I be able to get the iPhone 3g in Japan or will they say no since I am not a resident. I will have military orders supporting that I will be there for 3 years so I will be able to fulfill the contract. Thanks.
Sorry, I do not know. They may or may not have special provisions for military. The president and main stockholder of their company is not Japanese by the way. In most Japanese cell companies you have to have a stamp of your name to get a phone, but Softbank allows use of just a signature. You may get lucky. It would seem to me that you are a resident. It does not do MMS. It does normal email, SMS and with apps from the app store, it does AIM. No MMS at this point though. I can see it coming out in a future update possibly. You do not have to have Wireless to get on the internet. I can surf the web, get emails etc. driving in the car through the softbank 3g connection.
I don`t get yet the iphone in jpn, perhaps its too late for me.,i went to Softbank to try to get the iphone, they said;"they don`t have..or wait or dunno..shit!,.I think i have proper residence, credit card,etc...,and i`ve been using Softbank hp for 4 yrs..!everybody know how ..!
No, they are not a bank. That is just the company name. They are a bank for software. Kind of like Microsoft makes software for Microcomputers. They own a major share in Yahoo and also completely own Yahoo Japan. Yahoo Japan has 70% share of search market in Japan. They bought the cell phone division from Vodafone when Vodafone decided to get out of Japan. They also own the Hawks, a japanese baseball team.
That is exactly how it made you feel as a customer when you walked in. Even better when you walked out, all the media wanted to interview you. I was only in line for 2 hours, but the experience of the 2 hours and $200 it cost me, and the pr I got for my company in Japan was well worth it.
How does Adam like his phone? I love it. It is far better than I expected with all the new applications from the app store. Apple needs to update the software for stability a bit, but I am sure that will happen in a month or so. Are you the guy that couldn't buy a phone cause you did not have a credit card? He had a friend with him that day that left at 6:30 a.m. after waiting 3 days cause he did not have a credit card to pay for the bills. I felt really sorry for him.
that wasnt me (im acutally in the states, but adam told me the story a few days ago) but i did feel terrible for his friend. but i guess in adam's case they tried to turn him away although he goes there all the time. but from what he's told me, the wait was worth it.
I was #43 in line, but I was #3 finished coming out of the door because I have 6 other Softbank cell phone's and my application was finished in 5 minutes. I got interviewed by CNN, Asahi Television, Fuji Television and 2 or 3 others. I was #3 in Japan to have my iPhone 3G.
No, they require you get the data plan. You do not have to pay for the phone when you get it though. They divide it into payments over 26 months, so there is no upfront cost at all. It ends up costing about 7500yen a month plus the cost divided by 26 added to that depending on which phone you get.
john .. what do u think about the softbank paketto houdai plan ?
i really wanna buy the iphone .. but the softbank is suck ..as u know ...we can access internet from iphone through wifi , but the softbank "force" us to take the paketto plan that we can access internet unlimited .. and we have to pay about JP¥ 5000 .. what do u think about it ? i really mad with softbank ..suck
You go to the settings button 設定 3rd column on the far right. Then click on general 一般 which is 8th from the top, Then you have to scroll all the way to the bottom and click on 言語設定 which is second from the bottom and then on the next screen click on 言語 and on the next screen click on English and the check box on the right will appear and then click the blue 完了 button at the top and screen will go blank and 20 seconds later everything reappears and ....... you have English.

how much time did the phone companies had to prepare themselves for July 11!!!?
They knew like YEARS!!! before the announcement and they fail!!! That was more than enough for me to change company...and i will! they didnt care about their customers!

Softbank is the company in Japan who owns Yahoo! Japan and they bought vodafone's Japan cellular business about 2 years ago. Really profitable company. Yahoo has 70 to 80 percent of search in Japan while google only has 20 to 25%. Opposite of the rest of the world.
lol i never thought iphone would be this successful and raved about japan given that their current phones have superior capabilities. I tell you its steve jobs... everything he tries to see turns to gold.. except macs :D
Well, I've got a Mac Pro, a MacBook Pro, a MacBook Air and my wife has a Black MacBook and my kids have them too and there are about 10 ipods in our family and an AppleTV..... and it all works together. You can use the new iPhone 3g to remote control all of them too. Then there is Vista.....................................................
wellp, youre an apple guy :D I would have too if only games played on the mac sadly it doesnt. I dont entirely love windows windows, but im forced to due to my hobby. ALthough i use ubuntu linux as my day to day OS (free and neat). Would love to see macs get a nice share of the market than the measly 8% - ish as of today
damm they take extreme care in no fingerprints with the gloves. Apple really cares, Im waiting for a windows mobile phone that rivals iphone, probably the Touch Pro from htc or Touch Diamond.
yeah those gloves they use kinda reminded me when i purchase a watch, where nobody's touching it without gloves ^^ Damn i'd kill to be in Japan right now.Never been there but from what i've heard from friends and family that have been there it must be pretty awesome :) 5/5 from me
I was number 43. I am a foreigner. I was the 3rd one out of the store. I got the Number 3 iPhone in Japan. They finished my application far quicker than everybody else. You need proper residence status and a credit card. If you are not here permanently, it is hard to get one probably. This would true if you were a foreigner going to AT&T. At the DMV in california, my wife cannot get a drivers license as she is not a U.S. citizen or resident (but she has to pay taxes though).

AppleIncEd69 3 years ago
Well, I've got a Mac Pro, a MacBook Pro, a MacBook Air and my wife has a Black MacBook and my kids have them too and there are about 10 ipods in our family and an AppleTV..... and it all works together. You can use the new iPhone 3g to remote control all of them too. Then there is Vista.....................................................

wellp, youre an apple guy :D I would have too if only games played on the mac sadly it doesnt. I dont entirely love windows windows, but im forced to due to my hobby. ALthough i use ubuntu linux as my day to day OS (free and neat). Would love to see macs get a nice share of the market than the measly 8% - ish as of today

deanpinkas 3 years ago
Its activated in the Store. I used my other cell phone to call it while it was still sitting on the counter.

dude y are u wearing gloves
kainaussie 3 years ago
The guy didnt want fingerprints. The store guy put on gloves to keep the iPhone fresh in its glory.
Skaterboiva 3 years ago 4
That's the very clear sign to apple company that Asia and Europe NEEEDS iphone and so many people would buy it. :)
KeyserZone 3 years ago 4
damm they take extreme care in no fingerprints with the gloves. Apple really cares, Im waiting for a windows mobile phone that rivals iphone, probably the Touch Pro from htc or Touch Diamond.
amerind2007 3 years ago 3
yeah those gloves they use kinda reminded me when i purchase a watch, where nobody's touching it without gloves ^^ Damn i'd kill to be in Japan right now.Never been there but from what i've heard from friends and family that have been there it must be pretty awesome :) 5/5 from me

If you watch video's of last year in New York, they did the clapping thing. They were just copying that I think.

I love softbank! Also FYI they use Brad Pitt and Cameron Diaz in their advertising. Also that cute cute white shiba inu.
Japan does everything better we suck here in the state
spoilgoddess 3 years ago
If you go to 3"25' in the video, you can see the big poster of Cameron Diaz on the wall.
johnspohr 3 years ago
Hah hah. You love Softbank but you don't know that they make it virtually impossible for foreigners living in Japan to get an iPhone.
Read up. Softbank is being sooooo lame.

I would have wanted to open it up myself. It was nice they wore gloves though. Doubt AT&T will do the same here in the States though.
