  • Black is the worst iPhone color, by the way. I love the smudges on the backing of yours. :)

  • Their release was a FUCK of a lot cooler than ours. Damn you, Apple.

  • what? they dont high-five you??

  • in japan, do they sell iphones for verizon too?

  • hey you tube my brother is going tomorrow to japan and he wants to buy iphone please please please tell me how much the iphone costs in japan?

  • All the foreigners here I know have an iPhone. And it's funny how the Japanese consumer doesn't want to buy one because its "too complex" or doesn't have 1-Seg and "emoji" (both of which were remedied in updates), but rush out and buy DoCoMo handsets which virtually do the same thing. Another example of consumer jingoism in Japan.

  • What am I buying diamonds?

    GIVE ME MY PHONE

  • Hey John;

    i might be getting an iphone here in japan;

is there a way were i can turn of the 3g?

so i wont be able to use any internet?

    i dont want to get the phone bill high;

    so is there a way?

  • I Love The Black 16GB IPhone 3G thats the one i'm gonna get it!

  • why did u get an iphone in japan?

  • i can here that kid who was claping at 1:47 clapping at 5:50 lol ! :)

  • lol that guy at 1:47 was very amzaed about the iphone 3g w0w must be soo important to him

  • i like how japanese uses white gloves so they wont put any finger prints. tats why i got mine in japan

  • you crazy?!?!?!?!

  • well besides i was in japan for a trip when it came out and i am japanese I am just here in USA for few years tats it so i thought i should get it in japan

  • the countdown was annoying

  • HA after the countdown it would be funny if they sprayed out tear gas.

  • Everyone gets knocked out :D BWAHAHA

  • can you use real tones for the iphones 3g ringtone? real music not polyfonic or monofonic, real songs?

  • yes they sell them on iTunes

  • u can even custom the song from itunes for free

  • Dayum, I wished they used gloves for mine!

  • He's cute!!!

  • john i got my iphone 2 days ago hehe and it is white .and i paid cash for my iphone hehe..coz my visa end on april next year ..and even i will further my study for more two years i have to wait till March to renew my visa ..so i paid cash for my iphone..i wanna ask ...do u will unlock ur iphone ? or u have unlocked it ? i only think maybe u will go US or travel outside Japan..if u know how to unlock it .. tell me hehe ..

  • i would have burst laughing at the countdown

  • dan thats a lot of employies!

  • U know at the begining they set it up can you have that done in any store where u get it?

  • The most over-the-top event I have ever seen. It's just a phone, you would think those people won the lottery. I was happy enough to just walk into my local At&t, order my iphone and pick it up later...

  • what bs! i didnt get to see smoke when I got mines...:P

  • wow so over the top.

  • japanese people always show respect...thats why i love osaka =)

  • This is why I love the Japanese. So incredibly polite.

  • yea

  • And what language is "langwig," bitch?

  • wow the people handling the phone where wearing gloves so they wouldnt put fingerprints on the phone im pissed when i got my phone activated they didnt wear gloves i wish they did...

  • its actualy realy stupid that there wearing gloves cuz it is much harder to use the touch screen with gloves it hardly works when u have gloves on and u can see this at around the six min. point on this vid

  • the reason that they are wearing gloves is so they dont get finger prints the screen you stupid retard

  • you fuckin retard i know why there using gloves i was only stating that it is much harder to use the touch of the iphone with gloves on cuz it doesnt react so read the mesage and know ur facts before u go callin people retards dumbass

  • You know they are doing something right when they even have the Japanese lining up for their phone. The Japanese cell market is so much more advanced and MUCH different than our American market, so its really a big success to have the Japanese anticipating it.

  • Though Japan is a hightech country and have so many better cell phone and stuff than we do, japanese ppl always respect American tecnologies. I LOVE IT!! They are VERY polite too!!!

  • @L2daO2daV2daE

    LOL Wapanese.

  • As I watch this video, I am playing with the delicious iPhone 3G, and the not so delicious 2.0 software.

2.1 FTW!!1 (It has copy/cut/paste, GPS enhancement, and other awesome stuff.

    kp

  • well.japan ppl are role models

  • i love how much they love applause in japan! and everyone's so really polite, you'd never see that happening here in sweden.

  • I really love this video it shows u just how to continue the iphone when you put the sim is cool!!!

  • Absolutely out of proportions... Please peolple... it´s a phone, it´s a phone for God´s sake

  • so?

people can do what they want...

  • So is just a phone but what do you care if is just a phone and mind your bisness!!

  • Wow, Professonal and very Polite! I bought mine in New York Soho Apple Store, not bad though.

  • Wow...the Japanese dude is really meticulous in handling the iPhone...he even went to the extent of wearing a glove.

  • gotta love Japan :D

  • That was awsome John .... Im surely going to get my iphone 3G by september... because im going on vacation and cant buy it now ... but no sweats.... Japan Looks awsome !!

  • Maybe you could help me out. I am about to be stationed (1 September) at Yokota AFB in Tokyo, Japan. I am going to serve a 3 year tour there. Will I be able to get the iPhone 3g in Japan or will they say no since I am not a resident. I will have military orders supporting that I will be there for 3 years so I will be able to fulfill the contract. Thanks.

  • Sorry, I do not know. They may or may not have special provisions for military. The president and main stockholder of their company is not Japanese by the way. In most Japanese cell companies you have to have a stamp of your name to get a phone, but Softbank allows use of just a signature. You may get lucky. It would seem to me that you are a resident. U.S. cell phones do not work here, so you have to get a cell phone here. As such, military people do have phones here. I think you are ok

  • i have some questions that may help me decide wether i should get it or not. first, are you able to send text messages to other phone companies, for example if i sent a msg. to the a friend using docomo but the reciever didnt have AIM or SMS on their cell, just regular text msging would that work? secondly, do you have to have a wirless connection around you to go on safari, youtube, and sms or aim. third, can you mail to a phone by using email? thanks PLZZZ reply or send me a msg on my hompage.

  • It does not do MMS. It does normal email, SMS and with apps from the app store, it does AIM. No MMS at this point though. I can see it coming out in a future update possibly. You do not have to have Wireless to get on the internet. I can surf the web, get emails etc. driving in the car through the softbank 3g connection.

  • I don`t get yet the iphone in jpn, perhaps its too late for me.,i went to Softbank to try to get the iphone, they said;"they don`t have..or wait or dunno..shit!,.I think i have proper residence, credit card,etc...,and i`ve been using Softbank hp for 4 yrs..!everybody know how ..!

  • A bank provides cell phone service?? o.o

  • No, they are not a bank. That is just the company name. They are a bank for software. Kind of like Microsoft makes software for Microcomputers. They own a major share in Yahoo and also completely own Yahoo Japan. Yahoo Japan has 70% share of search market in Japan. They bought the cell phone division from Vodafone when Vodafone decided to get out of Japan. They also own the Hawks, a japanese baseball team.

  • lmao they're all clapping like if he won an emmy award lol

  • That is exactly how it made you feel as a customer when you walked in. Even better when you walked out, all the media wanted to interview you. I was on 3 Japanese stations, CNN news etc. etc. As you can see from this and my other video, I interviewed people and got a space in line that way. I was only in line for 2 hours, but the experience of the 2 hours and $200 it cost me, and the pr I got for my company in Japan was well worth it.

  • The fact that hundreds of people are waiting hours in line for a phone is laughable. It's also pathetic!

  • OMG you guys im from latin america so imagine when im going to get mine :(

  • such a great experience , we want it here in Qatar too :(.. Apple you are Torturing us :"(.

  • We'll probably have to deal with the fact that smuggled iphones will be our only resolution till the end of 2008.

  • its 50,000 yen here in japan..

  • oh wow. my friend adam was right. you can see him in the video (he's the guy whose in front of the guy talking).

  • How does Adam like his phone? I love it. It is far better than I expected with all the new applications from the app store. Apple needs to update the software for stability a bit, but I am sure that will happen in a month or so. Are you the guy that couldn't buy a phone cause you did not have a credit card? He had a friend with him that day that left at 6:30 a.m. after waiting 3 days cause he did not have a credit card to pay for the bills. I felt really sorry for him.

  • that wasnt me (im acutally in the states, but adam told me the story a few days ago) but i did feel terrible for his friend. but i guess in adam's case they tried to turn him away although he goes there all the time. but from what he's told me, the wait was worth it.

  • so exciting! hahah

  • Must be a great phone ^^

  • wow.

    this was amazing

  • nicee, I'm hopefully getting a white iPhone soon. But compared to all the phones they already have in japan, this is crap.

  • LOL at all the hightech phones in the beginning.

  • LMAO its like they are all graduating!!

  • ridiculous... applauses? that's too much...

ok, that's a very nice phone, but it is not the nicest thing in the world...

  • very true, you mom is the nicest thing in the world :P

  • jap technology is bad ass mother fucker sweet shit ass nigguh

  • 20 days till iget my iphone 3g =]]

i have to get in okinawa =/

    cuss im moving there

  • sugoi ne?

  • i want iphone 3G too. im here now in japan.

but i have to wait until august for my money.

and i think i cannot buy iphone 3G for now. instead sony ericsson cybershot w61s. i think that is more cool than the iphone 3G

  • Wasn't YouTube blocked in Japan? ;)

  • Japan Is Not China. Idiot !

  • everyone in japan was like WTF ? is this??\

or they just wanted to make fun of it.

    japanese technology is wicked!!!!

  • they said iphone got no 3g line sometimes.so suxxxxxxxxxxx

  • congrats john and thank u for ur explaination ..i think i will get one

  • do it vanzwan!

haha i waited like 10hours for my iphone 3g

  • lol @ constant clapping

  • did you get interviewed from japanese TV station on this day? i thought i saw you this morning on TV. lol

  • I was #43 in line, but I was #3 finished coming out of the door because I have 6 other Softbank cell phone's and my application was finished in 5 minutes. I got interviewed by CNN, Asahi Television, Fuji Television and 2 or 3 others. I was #3 in Japan to have my iPhone 3G.

  • How much do you pay a month?

Could i just get the phone and the white plan and no internet access but wifi?

  • No, they require you get the data plan. You do not have to pay for the phone when you get it though. They divide it into payments over 26 months, so there is no upfront cost at all. It ends up costing about 7500yen a month plus the cost divided by 26 added to that depending on which phone you get.

  • john .. what do u think about the softbank paketto houdai plan ?

i really wanna buy the iphone .. but the softbank is suck ..as u know ...we can access internet from iphone through wifi , but the softbank "force" us to take the paketto plan that we can access internet unlimited .. and we have to pay about JP¥ 5000 .. what do u think about it ? i really mad with softbank ..suck

  • its just a phone...not much new from the other iphone lol..people are so stupid

  • i just dont see why this is sucha big deal...can someone fill me in?

  • i gotta question.

    i live in japan right.

and im gonna get an iphone,

can i change the katakana or hiragana or kanjie, to english?

so i can have an iphone with english words instead of japaneses.

  • Yes you can. I changed mine to English and everything works just fine.

  • omg.

    thank you soooooo much.

so when softbank activates it you just plug it into the computer and it will start working?

&& How do you change it to english?

  • You go to the settings button 設定 3rd column on the far right. Then click on general 一般 which is 8th from the top, Then you have to scroll all the way to the bottom and click on 言語設定 which is second from the bottom and then on the next screen click on 言語 and on the next screen click on English and the check box on the right will appear and then click the blue 完了 button at the top and screen will go blank and 20 seconds later everything reappears and ....... you have English.

  • The customer service there is top notch. It's something many companies could learn from.

  • nice to see they handle the phone with care.

  • Go Japan!

  • the austrians should learn from this guys! here in Austria was a total fraud!!! the company ONE had only 102 PHONES!! T Mobile had also some but just as many...

We have to wait one week in order to see an iphone 3g in Austria!! what a FRAUD!!

LOGISTICS!!!??? fooo! LAIM!!! i wish I knew the Logistic guy in charge of this lack of commitment with the customers...

we came back empty handed. thanks Apple! thanks ONE! you really did a good job!!

  • haha at least you're not in france, we have to wait to july 17th till it comes out, and i presume there would be just a few as well. nobody even know why Orange-France did that because Apple wanted france to have it on july 11th. blah

  • how much time did the phone companies had to prepare themselves for July 11!!!?

They knew like YEARS!!! before the announcement and they fail!!! That was more than enough for me to change company...and i will! they didnt care about their customers!

I am changing company! I might not hurt them....but is my way to give them "the back" as they did to us!

As you can see! I am really dissapointed!

  • dude 1 ? wat is soft bank

  • Softbank is the company in Japan who owns Yahoo! Japan and they bought vodafone's Japan cellular business about 2 years ago. Really profitable company. Yahoo has 70 to 80 percent of search in Japan while google only has 20 to 25%. Opposite of the rest of the world.

  • i would have never suspected softbank to be a telecom network lol

  • /watch?v=G0eBiRMQFvU

  • che professionalità...

    vero apple store...

  • Buen video ,pero no entendi ni una sola palabra del japones ajaja

  • What does the Yahoo/Softbank app do?

  • lol i never thought iphone would be this successful and raved about japan given that their current phones have superior capabilities. I tell you its steve jobs... everything he tries to see turns to gold.. except macs :D

  • because its just the best phone around, it might not have a whole bunch of capabilities but it just works!

  • ha except macs, im laughing at u sir

  • Well, I've got a Mac Pro, a MacBook Pro, a MacBook Air and my wife has a Black MacBook and my kids have them too and there are about 10 ipods in our family and an AppleTV..... and it all works together. You can use the new iPhone 3g to remote control all of them too. Then there is Vista.....................................................

  • wellp, youre an apple guy :D I would have too if only games played on the mac sadly it doesnt. I dont entirely love windows windows, but im forced to due to my hobby. ALthough i use ubuntu linux as my day to day OS (free and neat). Would love to see macs get a nice share of the market than the measly 8% - ish as of today

  • haha, the smoke was a noxious gas to kill the first 50 =P

  • that would be funny lol

  • This should also be a world record for how many clapping japanese people can you fit on some stairs.

    Nice video man

  • in japan do u activate the phone in the store or in ur house cuz i see it comes without a sim card

  • Its activated in the Store. I used my other cell phone to call it while it was still sitting on the counter.

  • dude y are u wearing gloves

  • The guy didnt want fingerprints. The store guy put on gloves to keep the iPhone fresh in its glory.

  • That's the very clear sign to apple company that Asia and Europe NEEEDS iphone and so many people would buy it. :)

  • damm they take extreme care in no fingerprints with the gloves. Apple really cares, Im waiting for a windows mobile phone that rivals iphone, probably the Touch Pro from htc or Touch Diamond.

  • yeah those gloves they use kinda reminded me when i purchase a watch, where nobody's touching it without gloves ^^ Damn i'd kill to be in Japan right now.Never been there but from what i've heard from friends and family that have been there it must be pretty awesome :) 5/5 from me

  • wow, the smoke was awesome, you wouldn't see employees clap their hands in europe lol

  • yeah but i kinda liked it :)

  • If you watch video's of last year in New York, they did the clapping thing. They were just copying that I think.

  • what did he do to get to the home screen?

  • Finishing the activation. This is usually finished at home. But you can request it done in store.

  • press the home button?

  • no he does something to pass the activation

  • I love softbank! Also FYI they use Brad Pitt and Cameron Diaz in their advertising. Also that cute cute white shiba inu.

Japan does everything better we suck here in the state

  • If you go to 3"25' in the video, you can see the big poster of Cameron Diaz on the wall.

  • Hah hah. You love Softbank but you don't know that they make it virtually impossible for foreigners living in Japan to get an iPhone.

Read up. Softbank is being sooooo lame.

  • I was number 43. I am a foreigner. I was the 3rd one out of the store. I got the Number 3 iPhone in Japan. They finished my application far quicker than everybody else. You need proper residence status and a credit card. If you are not here permanently, it is hard to get one probably. This would true if you were a foreigner going to AT&T. At the DMV in california, my wife cannot get a drivers license as she is not a U.S. citizen or resident (but she has to pay taxes though).

  • o f#$k .....i just wanna have it.....

  • how much did it cost in jap?

  • good question.....

  • 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000yen or zen or whatever

  • Awesome video man!

If I had walked in there, I woulda been like...stop clappin and gimme da phone! =P

  • Great video. Thanks for posting.

  • Awesome video!

This only gets me more excited!!!

By the way, I found your vid through macrumors forum (google it)

They made it such a big, hug deal! Well, it is the iPhone.. :-)

    I love Japan

  • huge*

  • jus..shut up

  • I would have wanted to open it up myself. It was nice they wore gloves though. Doubt AT&T will do the same here in the States though.

  • there was one guy clapping byhimself and screeming like a girl lol nice vid

  • they unbox it and take out the sim card thts pretty kool, nce vid
