I agree with u 110 %. Americans need to change their ways so that they may cycle more often. There are so many benefits to both their health and also for a more greener planet. Im glad mayor Bloomberg in NYC has more bicyle lanes and increased the toll for cars entering Manhattan. I wish NJ would follow in the same steps. Im sick and tired of seeing so much Fat People. We must have the most fat people in the world living in the US. Burn fat not fuel fatsos
That statement is a lot easier said than done. Unfortunately, a large majority of American people live in suburban areas too far away to cycle their daily commute. Until college I lived a 20 minute drive from work and my secondary school. I could not possibly bike 30 miles daily to get where I need to go. There will be CHAOS in America once oil prices begin to rise; imagine a $7 dollar gallon. The end of America as we know it is near.... Maybe that's what the Mayans meant by 2012?

North American cities are designed for cars. Some are so spread with roads and parking lots taking up more space than the actual buildings people work and live in. Urban sprawl sucks donkey dick.
I do like the fact that we are starting to save the enviroment by ditching cars and going to hybrids or electric cars, but, one thing that I know I will miss out of a normal internal combustion engine powered car is the sound that the engine makes. Have you ever hear a car with a V8 accelerate? It's music to my ears!
Electric cars by tesla are the way to go! But If i didn't live in the middle of nowhere like I do, I would ride a bike everywhere! But I am stuck in the country area.
Also America is such a big country. It be nice if we are able to go more green, but I think that people here have just become so set in there ways with all this technology that makes us lazy it will be hard for people to get on board with this idea lol
Switching driving to biking in the u.s. Would also help ALOT with obesity issues, and how so many people are overweight, bcuz it would force people to exercise!
I love cycling don't particularly love cars. As you said about smaller cities - yes particularly where I live (bath, roaman built city) a bike gets me around much faster than a car I can ignore the one way system cut through alleys all that good stuff.
As for Holland and Germany they have fantastic roads and they were constructed with both the bike and the car in mind. Britain is for the most part unfriendly to bikers on the roads which is rather frustrating But its still worth it.
wonder what'll happen to the bike craze when electric cars/solar power comes into play. bikes aren't an option for northern climates, or for the distances of north american cities. European cities tend to be warmer and more condensed, so you don't have to ride your bike for 2 hours to get to work like folks living in suburbs would have to do here.
@MrGnarus how many die by car accidents? much more because more people drive cars :p
Id dare say if you looked into that statistic you would find that most of those deaths would not be tied into Mainland European countries. As believe me their systems are fantastic and refreshing.
one way streets designed so that you have to know exactly where to drive in order to get where you want to is my favourite. I once used 45 minutes to get the car the last 2 km and find a place to park
Sadly, for my job it isnt possible to do anything but drive. I go across multiple counties from business to business, but I would love a job within the city so I could just bike or use public transport.
Despite the higher cost to me, i am for methods to make driving more costly to turn away those people who do it out of pure laziness or lack of care for those around them.
I saw people use their car to take trash from the house to the dumpster just a few dozen yards away. Neither were unhealthy
