The weirdest movie I've ever seen but I fucking loved it!

This was absolutely the worst movie I have ever seen in my entire life. Everything about it literally corroded my sanity for the duration of the movie. Michael cera was awful, ramona is hideous, the characters were terrible, I want to beat the ginger drummers face in, the onomatopoiea (sp?) Effect was just plain stupid, the storyline - terrible, casting - terrible, overall I would give it a definite 0. Horrible flick

You shouldnt use the word hipster, alot of people are anti-this film because they belive it to be about hipsters. I dont think hipster really aplies to them, their more late 80's - early 90's inspired in every sense.The writer of the comic, and the director are both in their 30's arent they? And inspired by, retro video games and music. And the word hipster is used twice in the film as an semi-insulting term. 'Shes a fat hipster' (shes not fat so what does that suggest about the other label?)

Seriously tho this reveiw really dosnt explain it properly, if you ever play a video game before gamecube/ps2/xbox, you will love this movie, references Zelda all the way to the good old 8 bits :P

but honestly if you like any of the folowing this movie is for you: Music/Games/Comics

and needless to say if you are a fan this movie is a must, great acting, great writing and great visual effects (the fight scenes alone are worth the ticket)

i give it a 9/10

@jjjvideosquad I agree man. This is a template how any fighting game movie should be made and its based on a graphic novel. That street fighter chun li crap that came out should have been made like this.

Thing is the demographic was limited. Unless you were part of the nintendo generation, a lot of things were missed.  I would swear the Todd guy in all white was Orochi from king of Fighters. And the Japanese twins were Double Dragon.

@nichirenx I don't think not knowing a lot about video games takes away any enjoyment from this movie at all. I know a lot of people who don't play video games at all who really loved this movie, me being one of them. I don't even own a game console and this is one of my favorite movies now.

There are a lot of people over 30, don't play games, don't read comics, don't listen to indie, and they really enjoyed it because it's simply a fun movie. Everybody likes fun.

In it's defense though it was up against an action film with every other action start, a julia roberts chick flick, a will ferrell comedy, and Inception, so I can see how it got 5th. The film is good with some reservations. It trailed off somewhat towards the end, but overall was a lot of fun. If it were made any other way, or with a different director, it would not have been as good.

Ok review, but a few things.....

1. get a background, its more visually appealing and makes you pay more attention

2. try to get someone more relevant to the material to review the movie, a woman in her 40-50's doesnt seem like someone who knows a lot about comic book comedy movies

3. Keep face time to a minimum, its very distracting when the video cuts to the reviewer

Apart from that, pretty solid, personally im looking forward to the film

The comic book readers aren't really the ones sitting on the fence if they should watch this movie or not. As long as she can connect with her audience, i don't see the problem.

2. In this case you're right and I get the feeling she couldn't appreciate half the gaming jokes but for the record people don't have to fit a certain gender and age range to be relevant to the material.

I know girls who love comics and I guarantee you there are people over 40 who own comic stores. Stan Lee didn't wake up when he was 40 and say "oh shit, what's a comic book?!" One day we'll be 40 too dude.
