The Flamingo's sang this song better, this version is good don't get me wrong, but The Flamingo's revolutionized this song, I wonder how the Flamingo's would sound with this dreamy instrument in the beginning.
yeah i remember this song on the soundtrack to a 70s movie called Doc Savage Man of Bronze, starred Ron Ely...40 somethings will remember he played Tarzan in the TV series back then.
This song was the inspiration that got me started on a singing career that lasted some 14 years & this was the 1st song I sang in public. Art Grafunkels' version uses different chords to the original, which gives a great effect. It was no doubt Stephen Bishop or one of Arts' other songwriter friends whose idea it was to change the chord structure to give the song such a magical sound complimented by the Rhodes electric piano & some very soulful guitar work. Arts' version is a masterpiece.
I had no idea Art Garfunkel ever sang this song; I had never heard it. He did an absolutely outstanding job with it. The song, let's face it, is a classic and he knocked it out of the ballpark. The video was very good, you got the "feelings" going on between them without it being done in a blatant fashion; I like that. This is a definite keeper. Thanks for a great post. Also, thank you, you know who you are, for sharing this with me.
Excuse me while I get old watching a really screwed up slow Carly tune by bad actors How sad! do I need a jazzy chair now? this version makes me think so.
This tune is not a Carly Simon tune... In fact she didn't do this song til after MANY others did it. This song was made for a movie back in 1934. This version by Art Garfunkel is from the 1970's. The most noteable rendition of this song is probably by "The Flamingos" way back in like 1960 or so.
As far as the acting goes, I couldn't say... but I doubt the daily soaps are offering much in the way of talent, anyways. :P
This was 1980, the band were friends of mine and we paid $500!! That was a great price even then because every song they played sounded like the original. Don't know where they are now, but they were very talented. Wish it was recorded.
I know that wedding bands are not supposed to be so good that they outshine the bride and groom but, like I said, I 've seen some pretty average ones. At one wedding, only the bass player was really solid and I remember dancing and trying to tune out everyone in the band but him just to dance decently! Glad that you had much better.
@7Know7Thy7Enemy7 . It seems that you punctuate and end your sentences with your assumed names. You also take a long time to make come backs. My post was two years ago. That makes you two years behind sad guy!! and cheer up! life is too short to be angry at everybody. Get counselling or something, it might change your life and clear the air around you, making the world a better place... hey you might even gain a few friends loner.
@tedagr My reply is late? I love scrolling through old comments nitwit, and unfortunately your comment was years ago, common sense will tell you bonehead. (shaking my head)
There are quite a few romantic songs out there, but if this isn't the #1, it should be among the top 3 or 4 at very minimum. It's one of my favorite romantic songs ever.
@dannyt92548 This song is from a 1930.s Busby Berkely starring Dick Powell and Ruby Keeler. The main sequence of the film is where Dick Powell sings the song and no matter where he is or where he looks (magazine covers, billboards, people) all he sees is Ruby Keeler.
Yes, you're right. I've heard three versions of this song (Flamingos , this one, and the new/old version done in the movie "Bronx Tale") and all three of them are very good. Nice to see that the later artists did a nice job of it and didn't mess it up, like so many singers do when covering an older song.
My favorite record of 1975. I think I wore the grooves of my first 45 of it flat in one month. It went to No. 18 pop and spent 18 weeks on Billboard starting August 23.
and,i believe it went to number one in the uk, where they still have more appreciation for songs like this. from what i understand, doris day is still huge over there.
Sooooo sweet, I love this video, and Art is Angel voice yes, I was lucky to see him Solo twice her in Australia, both nights front row. Art Rules !!!!
