Beautiful aria written for the great castrato Carestini, but there is only the da capo part and the cadenza is too long. It needs a recording of the complete Artaserse
@shushak2 Yes.. and also it's note the right tonality ...they transposed it here a 4 th lower, it's normally a quite high soprano aria..Simone Kermes sing it in the original pitch... i have the manuscript home.
@sonqualnave I have also a manuscript, where it is writtend as "Presto". That's an "aria da tempesta", so I think the tempo is quite good there and too slow with Kermes. It as been recorded in september by Franco Fagioli for the complete album with Jaroussky and Cencic, the Cd is scheduled for 2012.
@shushak2 So pehaprs there is two version of this aria, it's the only solution i see to have one manuscript written presto and the other andante. So for your manuscript the Kuhlmann tempo is perfect, for my manuscript Kermes version is right! hehe Don't misunderstand me i love fast crazy aria, i was just curious why the tempo was so different from the one written on mine. And yes it's a tempest aria but not all "tempest" aria ( boat, wind, wave) are fast...
@shushak2 not all the "Vo solcando in mar crudele" was written as allegro or presto in the different Artaserse.Sometimes there is a big contrast between the text and the music to let understand the extreme tension of the situation. And for the cadenza there again it's a question of taste cause if you see some rare manuscripts of final cadenzas written by some great castratos this one seems short! hehe. Yes i know the this Vinci with Cencic it will first be staged in my city. I cannot wait!
Kathleen Kuhlmann is the untalented version of Marylin Horne.
