Those fans responded by no longer buying concert tickets or CDs and calling up radio stations to protest. Radio stations responded to the pressure.
Well - Back then it was a pretty brave move to say something against G.W.Bush. There are not many musicians that obstruct themselfs in the common opinion about the worst president the USA has ever seen (Green Day did, Rage Against the Machine did, System of a down did, just to name a few). I don't know about you but they had the balls to say something against this moron - and they had to pay an UNJUSTIFIED price. Dixie Chicks are more Rock 'n' Roll than most of the other...

They have tried a couple of tours since ... the last one was summer 2010 I believe. They opened for The Eagles. They were scheduled for 8 shows and had to cancel 2 because of poor ticket sales. The others failed to sell out, so I am told.
Couple of years back they put out a "best of" album. It stalled at #37 on the Country charts.
You can still buy their albums though. Good news for you, they are probably selling for a significant discount.

This song got me through one of the hardest time of my life. EVER. I listened to you all belt out my own agony over some lost friendships that were the most bitter I'd ever experienced. I have 4 kids - my daughter was at college, but my 3 sons and my DH would creep through the kitchen about every 2 or 3 days for months when I would listen to this as loud as my system would tear out and sing along with the Chicks while I cooked and cleaned and tried to rebuild my broken heart. U said it ALL.
i sure hope they all come together again as i always did and always will like them regardless what Natalie said in the past which i agree with her 120%.look how the the other performers smeared Clinton,Gore during Clinton's presidency and even Bush himself smeared them and that was ok wasn't it? what Natalie said would make her look like she's praising Bush compared to what the other performers said during the Clinton presidency....
Great song. And I love their Documentary "Shut Up And Sing" about free speech and standing up for themselves in life. It took a lot of courage. And I'm one who doesn't even care much for country music. Note - if you like this anti-Bush song, then you have to see/hear the best Bush-truth one of all time by Pink: "Dear Mr. President" ....
P.S. As a "done that" and "been there," "Card and Scar carrying Veteran, I still love their music, however, the short fat chick and her views or opinion were at the least inappropriate for the time in history and place. I totally agree! I believe everybody is well-deserved of speaking their mind - we built our country on such freedom! If somebody doesn't like what she said or what they sing about, they are free to turn around and go the other way; there is no sense in threatening them or banning their music. Besides, they NEVER said they didn't support our troops, they merely voiced disapproval of the hairbrained idiot that sent our troops over there in the first place. Troops are great!

Stations sell air time to advertisers who want to reach the most listeners.
So, listeners stop listening to DC (as is their Right), advertisers chose to advertise on stations that did not play DC, to maximize their investment in advertising their products.
So, more stations stopped playing DC.
It is all about Freedom.

I used to listen to country music on the radio. When those stations malevolently stopped playing Dixie Chicks music and so many people spewed such hatred toward the Chicks, I decided I didn't want to be associated with those kinds of people in any way and stopped listening forever.

I'm not mad about their personal opinion. Freedom of speech is a beautiful thing and we as Americans are blessed to have it. I'm just mad they went over seas and publicly bashed our president. We're supposed to take pride in our country and present ourselves as a united front. It's just sad really... I totally agree! I believe everybody is well-deserved of speaking their mind - we built our country on such freedom! If somebody doesn't like what she said or what they sing about, they are free to turn around and go the other way; there is no sense in threatening them or banning their music. Stations sell air time to advertisers who want to reach the most listeners.
So, listeners stop listening to DC (as is their Right), advertisers chose to advertise on stations that did not play DC, to maximize their investment in advertising their products.
So, more stations stopped playing DC.
It is all about Freedom.
Nat was free to say what she did. Just not free of the consequences.
