I do not know a single trainer, researcher, or educator who would not welcome questions on this issue. And lastly, please do not swim with wild dolphins. That is the worst thing you can do. It causes confusion and aggression in the animals. And they wrongly associate people with food.
You can never make a 500 lb animal do anything. If they choose not to participate in a training session or program, I can promise you that no facility has a problem with that. It is the trainers' jobs to ensure that the dolphins are healthy and mental and physcially stimulated. In this video, a dolphin reacted in an certain way. This is no different if a horse bucked or a dog bit. All animals, just like we, have good and bad days and moments.
As a marine mammal trainer, it is hard that so many people have such misconceptions about animals under human care. The animals are treated with the best preventitive health care, get restaurant quality fish, and natural enrichment. The median lifespan in the ocean is 25 years, while under human care it is up into the fiftes. The dolphins are never forced to do anything. They get that prefectly prepared fish regardless of participation in programs.

If you are a woman you should not go into water with Dolphins at specific times of the month as it can trigger agressive yet funny sexual behavior in Males.
If you are a pregnant woman this can trigger agressive behavior toward human Males in the water with you.
Drs told me I could have been killed if he wanted, he would have hitted me with the nose and it would have been instantly. He only wanted to warn me he didnt like me and hitted with the tale. I only know and Drs what Ive been through and I agree it doesnt look much in the video, Im not blind. I know what those 8 weeks after were like and thats enough for me.. Just get the message, dont question the video cause you were not hurt.. thanks.xx

Have you seen in what conditions cautivity dolphins are beeing traped and shipped?, horrible!!! swimming with them is nice when they are in their natural habitat and free!, imagine you are in jail and some come to see you and want to play with you... f that... that's what I believe...
#1 Trainers did not have full control of the animals as ou constantly hear the whistle being blown over and over. #2 you reached out and touched the dolphin and maybe as it is a possbility that it didint like the way you touched it hence the sudden tail lob. Adn in the end i figure these are young dolphins because in all my years of being around dolphins, the young ones usually are the rebellious ones. However none the less u signed a waiver its you choice to jump in. Dolphins do what they like.
To the ones that say that the dolphin barely hitted me, the pain was impossible and I had a stroke an hr after when the body cooled. If the dolphin had hitted me withe the nose, I would have died instantly, said by the Drs at Cana Hospital. As it was with the tale, all the chest cartilagues were broken causing a massive bruise and difficulties to breath. All my chest was violet and in pain for 3 weeks and a recovery of 6 weeks followed. I did, take the metals out, except the bikini top ring!!!!
In response, I have to say that it is announced as SWIMMING with dolphins although is true that you only stand and they go around you and in a large group of people as you can see. I was like many tourists atracted by the proposal and went for it. Of course once there I realized they are there like soldiers and receiving orders all the time and its awful and they are abused. That s why I did post this video.
You didn't "swim" with the dolphins. You were in the water WITH the dolphins. And you're right..they are abused.. Any time you swim with a captive dolpin, you need to understand it's there against it's own free will.. Watch "The Cove" and then talk it.. Please
Sorry to hear about your injuries however I swam with the dolphins in Puerto Plata and we were explicitly told to remove all metal from our body, jewellery, hair bands, etc.
There are two possibilities: either they didn't tell you this information or you ignored the request....
You have no idea of what you are talking about. His tale is very strong and it hitted really hard in my chest. Our chest is not so strong and the pressure made on the esternon broke loads cartilagues, and it could have damaged the lungs. If a rib had been broken the pressure would have been less. Dr´s say that if he had hitted me wiht the nose, it would have been inmediate death. Read the article and you will know I could not breath and there was only a hotel Dr there and nobody else to help.
