Hey why isn't John Gregory mentioned? he was in Blues project and Seatrain. A gifted musician and dear friend, he passed two months ago. I listened to hem play and sing for 16 years. he wrote a beautiful song called "dance, he even homeschooled my kids for a few months. He has a son by the same name living in the UK
I have a friend that went to the blues project reunion in central park they made a 2 record set out of that [ with a package tour across the country ] .
The Blues Project got their name from a series of blues shows at the Cafe Au Go Go in Greenwich Village. They were a compilation of the white NY blues sound much like the Butterfield Band represented Chicago. The shoes, particularly the Joyeaux Noel shows, ere fantastic.
Yes , technically you are right. The Elektra album he was part of was called The Blues Project, the basis of the Cafe Au Go Go performance series called the Blues Project in '65 &'66. They're connected. This was, I believe, their first real showcase as a band with Tommy Flanders on harp.
I stumbled across this vinly lp in a record store the other day and bought it for only 5 bucks in perfect condition. Great Psych sound!! I am curious...this album was released in 1966?
I was in high school and a friend who attended Brooklyn College took me to a concert of theirs. The Swingle Singers had the unfortunate job of following them at the show.
The Blues Project were my favorite band for about two or three years back them. It was kind of cook, since not many people were aware of them at the time.
Al Kooper celebrated his 65th birthday on Feb 5 at BB Kings in NYC with Danny Kalb at his side. They paid tribute to their late bandmate Andy Kuhlberg with a powerful rendition of "Flute Thing". Al and Jimmy Vivinno delivered "Like a Rolling Stone" in true Dylan style, and Danny got bluesy on "Alberta" and had everyone's feet tappin' with "You Can't Catch Me".
Happy Birthday Al. We miss you Andy. Long Live the Blues Project!
Wow, just checking to see if the Blues Project ever made it to YOUTUbE. Love this group...saw them in the village many times and once unknowingly made friends with Andys girlfriend and wound up in her bedroom with 2 other friends....and in walks Andy! When did he finally make it thru those Heaven Doors?
This is one of my favorite bands of the 60s and they had such groovy songs and excellent tase in fashion and hairstyles too. I Love this song thank you for posting it.

The sound of Mid-Sixties NYC, and nostalgia from my highschool years in NJ--such an influential group.

They named themselves after an album Danny Kalb was involved in.
