He's not a spectator, he's a flag marshall. Its his job to be standing there to warn oncoming racers of any potential hazards, or to let them know they have passed a hazard area and can go full boar again. I'll bet he went out and bought a lotto ticket after that.

Perhaps he was just in shock and awe at what he was *expecting* to hit him and instant death. Thats just human nature man. And he probably wasnt even able to project perfectly which way the car would flip or spin, might of turned out worse if he ran the wrong way out of fear.
