I stand corrected, and add: As long as she is inspired by this wonderful trove of celestial music! P.S., have you heard her recording of the Barber concerto?
Hilary Hahn is a great violinist in the tradition of past masters such as Heifetz, Oistrach, Kogan, Menuhin, etc. It is rare to see someone with such devotion to the highest excellence. I hope she plays till she's 90.
One of those girls you see on the street and think "Ah, she's cute" but it turns out to be a world class violinist. Her beauty is overshadowed by her talent.
@eyekir no she doesnt. to fill the royal albert hall (which is a huge space) and to maintain quality of tone you need to use all the bow you have. otherwise it wont project. even when shes micced up it would sound shit if she used smaller bows
her recent performances are not all that though. I used to love her. Still do...but I guess she will get better than this. You need an extra-ordinary ear to hear the notes. And I heard she has a lot of nasty mouth....lol. love this part
hilary on this recording was very young ... I think this run simply fantastic and a clarity unheard .... greetings to all American music and also you Hilary ... I'm also a violinist and I feel great admiration for your talent ... hopefully read this and respond MESSAGE .. my name is Ismael Galherbach .. I'm from Argentina many greetings in America ...BYE BYE!
If BACH was watching / listening to this he would be 100% proud of you! (I would like to say 1000% but that's the exaggeration people use I don't like to) To put it in slang: "You go girl!"... Amazing performance! Bravo!
This is my favorite part in the Sonata and Partitas series, too bad it's seen as a race to the finish because the resonance and patterns in the piece are so much fun.
@kris8674 They probably are as good as her. They just weren't able to make it into the limelight. That's why they're in one of the best orchestras in the world. It's not easy to make it into these Philharmonic Orchestras. The people in the orchestras had to play concertos for auditions as well.
@travonprince which orchestra is this? and im a violin musician myself that works so much for solo works and orchestras. I play concertos for my auditions all the time :) they are the most beautiful pieces of music as well as mozartian operas and symphonies :)
@travonprince thats amazing! I am a junior in high school and im preparing myself to be in ont of those orchestras haha :). But it really interests me how you know this and you dont perform in orchestras. excuse me if i am mistaken
...but do you know who the eight "people" were? THAT is the question here. In fact, the individuals who voted thumbs down were, in fact, a group of music appreciation students from the Planet Klingon.
@AnneBoleyn88 Just a minute now! Hold yer horses, Annie! Nathan Milstein was old (very old, in fact) when he played the "Bach, Sonata No 3, Allegro assai" at, what, 83 years of age. I suggest you (and the others, here) take a gander at this jewel (here at Youtube) 'fore you go talkin' about "old" in such a fashion....(enjoy)
She looks pretty, but dose she really sound so good? Of course it's a good play, but i think there's still a lot space for improvement. Not to mention others, when she rushes the note in conjunction the whole structure crumbles, it's too far away from Heifetz's play.
@lucasfranzcanada WHAT?I'm a violinist and I like this video and if you think that those people are violinists you are a stupid, because I'm not as good as she is at playing but I do my best and I love the music I play.People who play do that because they love music and it makes them feel right. So why dislike this video? Jealousy has nothing to do with this. It's like saying: 'Oh, you dislike Bach because he's better at writing music than you are!' that doesn't make sense and it's a bit offensive
@lucasfranzcanada I am violinist, and I love Hilary Hahn. However, my non-musician family member did not like this because he prefers the talentless, more popular stars of today. LOL So, the eight people were probably just clueless when it comes to music.
@Violinfanatic I just have removed my comment, I think people are not understanding what I meant! Sorry if I offended you as well, that wasn't my intention!

whoohow too fast ,she plays it like she has an ak-47 in her hands...the people in the baroque period used to dance when pieces like that were played, and the tempo was very slow because they couldn't move fast in the corsets they wore.sorry for my bad english.
I promise myself every time that when I listen to this while doing other work, I won't get distracted. To this moment, I have never diverted my attention away from this video. So beautiful!

There is also another Asian who played at ytso cant remember the name, but he's a doctor, who was almost identical to Ben chan again this version seams hurried compared to his. Don't know what others think?
@TheAnonyy This movement is marked Presto (not Allegro, not Allegretto, not anything grazioso) and furthermore is the finale of a four movement sonata which means it should be fast, furious, and wild. Yes, phrasing is a must, but this is not one of those sensitive, soft kinds of movements. hey guys i have a question, why does Hilary have that piece of cloth on her chin rest. i see some of my friends at orchestra who also have a piece of cloth on their chin rest when they play. what is the purpose of that?
