This guy is well over 70 years old. How his demeanor changes when he displays the three treasures is amazing. His animal and elemental essence (Tiger and Water) is slowly quickly refined into energy which raise the spirit of vitality within him. The physical descriptions we feel we must convey is secondary to this presentation of internal skill. Pugilistically, his elbows are in, chest sunken, chin down, knees bent three fronts aligned, circular gathering, linear discharge of energy: Wow!
Wow, My new MA hero! I have to learn this in the fall. I'm working on training for a week of intense instruction in Aug. this form is @ the top of my list for the fall and winter. Just amazing! Very Yang energy with lots of martial intent. I wish I could be this good at that age!
As Toryonline has stated maybe a combo of ' heart & mind six combinations fist & bagua palms' especially if the old chaps are from Hebei as stated on the tag.
this is very interesting, I actually believe that this is the proper way to step, that sliding crap means he would have slipped over walking the circle is mud. I think this is more likened to Dongs bagua. The other stuff you normally see as soon as they go to do apps it's weak as piss. don't think the emperors guards would have done too much dancing in the palace gates. definately hardened battle men would have done more of this straight for the kill stuff... cheers thanks JCAP
@12THEANVIL1 By my understanding, the slide-step method is just for training. It's also really common in wushu-ized Bagua because it looks good. But it's not intended for combat stepping (though it's useful to "trap")...it makes your footwork far too heavy to properly react to anything.
Very different, in that he is incorporating a lot of eastern xing-yi principles into his bagua. I don't care for his stepping, especially his inside foot on the circle. Outside of a few odd posture thingies, I think he's really great, but it is his own unique take on a combination of both arts. His empty/full stepping concept is less bagua in nature. Awesome hands... yikes!
Tremendous demonstration of real martial Baguazhang skill rarely seen and even more rarely taught. Thank you for sharing. Always good to see others training hard and with genuine purpose as well. The closed door has been cracked open.
It very much resembles the shuai jiao "on guard" posture. Cheng Tinghua was a shuai-jiao master before learning bagua from Dong Haichuan. So I'm willing to bet that this is an old form, much closer to that which Cheng taught than many modern variations (not to take anything away from any of the modern masters).
Excellent! These guys are the real deal. Vids like this make you want to skip that extra slice of pizza and add a thousand reps.

I really like the explosive breathing & coiled power of this form, rare to find in most Cheng Bagua today... not showy or flashy.

Notice the open Dragon Palm - not a closed striking palm like shaolin or wushu-ized bagua.
