When you are doing a live performance on stage, there are no guarantees. The microphone could be in the wrong place; packed small theatre and heavy drapes contribute to dulling of acoustics; etc. etc. She has done a marvellous job. She sounded beautiful. Imagine having to memorise the whole thing!
singings cant be on form all the time -too much travel and rehearsal, illness...... who knows maybe she had a large ball of spit before...-ing at 3.33... i have seen singers on stage dying for a place to swallow! let alone breath in an aria....
she is doing pretty well actually...very colourful:) but not her best....
she has a unique, beautiful voice, but this aria doe snot suit her, as it leaves her very exposed and shows her lack of secure breathing, placement of the voice, etc which is why she struggles with intonation at times, and hence this isn't the proper way of singing Handel, and much less for that matter, a traditionally correct method of approaching Baroque period repertoire!
@whistlenotelover It is so very true what you said, although I have been in Theater an der Wien with her in march at Rodelinda, and she was simply excellent. I am shocked to hear her singing with such flaws as here.
Such an animated, full-of-life interpretation! She must've been incredible on stage! But did she just copy Ruth Ann Swenson's ornaments (without all the super high notes) or what?!
Kathleen Battle runs circles around her!
