Consider bringing Enhance with the warlock if you're worried about combat, makes them WS5 and I5. Pity it's a 400 point troop choice; pathfinders with the 2+ cover are probably better for camping objectives in cover, so this unit is best for pushing forward down the middle. Do that in tandem with either a squad of 3 war walkers with scatter lasers or missile launchers, or alternatively, in tandem with a properly maxxed out squad of harlequins (including with veil of tears).
@Devestrike the former is good for just a rock solid anti-infantry firepower (I'd rather take reapers than star cannons for anti space marines, though) for 600 points, and the latter is a decent catch 22 for your opponent (for 750 points)- must get close enough to beat veil of tears (and face harlequin assault), or only target the rock solid wraithguard instead of the harlequins. Augument with Farseer with doom/fortune/guide wherever you want. Purely theoretical though.
theyre not that hard to take down... 3+ save with my dice rolling fails would mean they will all die quickly... i mean it will be hard to wound them kinda, but once you get wounds on them, your guaranteed to lose a couple out of a few saves ):
but the look on your opponents face when you insta kill a winged greater demon of nurlge is priceless. Also, one guy i play against has the tyranid doom of malentay or something like that. insta killed, and his trygon? good night.
@BeTheBe5t Using fortune on them may help you with the armor saves, plus if your opponent chooses to focus to much on them it leaves your other more weedy eldar free attack and destroy his other units.
i like to keep my wguard supported with a fire prism, then if those nasty genestealers come anywhere near a St 5 ap 4 large blast really cuts them down before the guard mop them up. BTW wraithguard are insane against high toughness high wounds stuff, like tyrannofexes
@kllmnwpease no they don"t which is why if u choose a warlock, enhance is good, but conceal gives them cover anywhere which they need against say melta or plasma.
I like sticking a small squad of em in a Wave Serpent, and then dropping them out by a tank and just obliterating it. Especially if it's a land raider : P
So against average shooting they are as survivable or better then terminators. Only s8 or higher weapons make terminators relatively better were it not that at that strength most weapons are ap2 or better
i normally dont field wraithguard in a ten man squad because in a 1500 point match it not necessary but otherwise there cannot be a better troop choice in all of 40k
It's in the current one which was printed in 2006. The only 5th ed codices at the moment are Space Marines and Imperial Guard with Space Wolves coming soon.
@FlamingGerkins there isn't a 5th edition codex there's a 3rd with an autarch from the 4th edition update it's all what workshop did i wish they update there codex soon i love my eldar but some of there rules are getting outdated
wraith guard are just so annoying. the instant death thing might not work on necrons who are in range of the ressurection orb. one thing i've noticed about the wraith gaurd is that they look like an eldar take on necrons, they are similar as they are souls of eldar put in to a robot body.
can you imagine how unstoppable necrons would be if they had FnP? some have said it will replace 'We'll be back' but i'm still a bit hesitant. it's good on units with more than 1 wound but not for 1 wound ppl

warhammermaster12311 1 year ago

@kllmnwpease because they are just souls trapped in armour.

filesunavailable 1 year ago
so to b an elite choice u hav to hav atleast 5 guards?
genralr12 1 year ago
@genralr12 no theyre always an elite choice unless u choose 10 with a warlock in which u may decide to field them as a 375+pt troop choice
CrypTiKxCrash 1 year ago
Imagine what would happen to eldar armies if they made a plastic box for wraithguard.

shoot terminator:
S3: wound .33 save 0.17 = 5.5%
S4: wound .5 save 0.17 = 8%
wraithguard:
S3: wound .17 save 0.33 = 5.5%
S4: wound .17 save 0.33 = 5.5%
So against average shooting they are as survivable or better then terminators. Only s8 or higher weapons make terminators relatively better were it not that at that strength most weapons are ap2 or better

Im going to wait till they make a plastic kit because 15 usd per model is just to much for me

Another piece of great advice, but I'd like to add one thing: Genestealers can chew them up with rending attacks. Feel No Pain would fix that nicely.
Higelaces 2 years ago
Unfortunately it wouldn't, can't use it against weapons that ignore armour saves, Rending included.
Arkay1a 2 years ago
I always forget that, thanks.

they should have feel no pain, cos they're already dead, you have know idea how much i laughed at that.
totally agree though, i love em, first model i ever bought

FlamingGerkins 2 years ago
Yes it is mate. Show him the Wraithguard entry on page 62 in the 'Squad' section. I quote:
'A unit of 10 Wraithguard led by a Spiritseer may be fielded as either an Elites choice or a Troops choice.'
Arkay1a 2 years ago
Is this in the 5th edition codex?

If you have a spiritseer in the group they can be taken as elite or troops, at your discretion.
It's in their options on their profile
